So to answer your question why keep on pursue him? Because he will be available and he will need to find new club, thus, why we are offering him the project we have under ten Hag. Kante is a completely different kind of player to what Schöne offered.
Kante is a roaming player just like De Jong.
Fred similarly is more of an active presser type from what I've seen.
You want someone who holds position around the centre circle more.
