United are willing to cover his deferred wages, as are Chelsea, you are desperate and throwing money around with reckless disregard right now. Offering 100mil for Antony who has proven nothing outside of a weak league yet won't pay 17mil to complete the deal for the one player ten Hag really wants? Come on man. You or Chelsea could pay that right now, Barca would be happy to accept but the player will likely refuse to leave.

Most cules wanted Bernardo but if a player decides he isn't leaving and has a long contract, there is nothing anyone can do.

Also, I do understand the severity of the situation but selling top players isn't the path we took. We have taken massive risks financially with levers this summer and we simply cannot afford to fail this season, La liga is a must and all our eggs are in that basket. Selling Frenkie (who can be a top player) and replacing him with a stop gap signing like Soler for example makes no sense and Xavi won't accept that thankfully.
Source we are (a) willing to cover his wages let alone the (b) entirety of his wages?

Respectable source too, please.

No they aren't. Utd have never been willing to cover them (possibly a small amount, but even that I doubt), and all the Chelsea rumours were quite blatantly designed just to get us to panic and do so. Otherwise this entire saga would have been over, one way or the other, weeks (if not months) ago. We would have offered to do so, Frenkie would have either accepted or declined the transfer, and it would have been over. The end.

Instead it's gone on this long purely because Utd figured that Barca would eventually pay him the money that they scammed from him, and he or his agent had obviously told us that he would join us once that happened. Now, there is a chance that we were lied to and Frenkie or his agent were just using us, but considering I don't see what profit or advantage they would actually get from that I personally doubt it.

People still moaning about this guy need to understand.

if he wanted to be here he would have been here month ago.

he clearly doesn’t want to move and it’s absolutely NOT up to Manchester United to make him come here.

Casemiro deal happened quickly because he wants to be United player.

feckme DeJong doesn’t want to be United player.

Stop trying to blame the club for everything.

Do you not believe that Frenkie's unresolved deferred wages are a huge factor?

If they’re willing to cancel Depay’s contract, they should be willing to cancel Dest’s contract. I’d have him here for free. Sell AWB. Keep Dest on low wages. Would be easy to offload in a season or two when a better RB becomes available.

Xavi and Barca have absolutely ZERO shame this summer....just openly talking about forcing players out and now you can add Dest to that list. I guess Lever 5 is pushing out players under contract publicly to pressure them to leave so they can sign new guys

Oh boo hoo. Clubs are allowed to tell players they are no longer needed/wanted. Barca is a football club going for all honors not a charity. Dest isn't good enough and never will be, he's had plenty of chances, stop being so dramatic about it.

of course they are....but why do it publicly?

Where's the reliable source that we're willing to cover (a) part of his wages and/or (b) his entire wages?

All honors uno. The only thing you'll be going for is bankruptcy filing.

SSSSSSSSIIIIIIIUUUUUU

That would be some transfer window. Still don't think money is the issue with FDJ and he's just not interested, but perhaps signing Casemiro and splashing the case elsewhere will convince him of our ambitions. We'll see

I’m pretty sure there’s a tweet in this very thread (needle in a haystack I know) that corroborated the poster. I remember Seeing one that said both us and Chelsea would be willing to cover the wages

Auba, Depay, Frenkie and Dest are the guys they want gone so they can register Kounde and buy Cesar Azpi from Chelsea
I think it is Auba or Depay. Unless they want no second striker. Maybe they'll use Fati/Torres there.

Sounds too sensible thinking for us

Chelsea are but then again, they tried to agree a lower fee with Barca.

As for United, I've read absolutely nothing reliable on anything to do with covering wages. It would have been widely reported by now.

Once again, anyone have a reliable source?

Why should I, or anybody else, believe a tweet? Clubs put out things, both officially and through friendly journalists and agents, that they wish to be released. There's obviously been a huge amount of that in this saga, mostly from Barca but a few from us as well. Unless there's been something far more official than I'm aware of, it's all just media rubbish that some people strangely take way too seriously.

If we were willing to cover the wages, why has this gone on so long? It would have been over, one way or the other, immediately at the time. There's no more hanging around waiting for things to change like obviously has been happening this entire window.

Was Casemiro owed 17m + bonuses from his current club that they are/were unwilling to pay?
