The only reason Frenkie would possibly start is because of Busquets' suspension. That's not exactly paying an important role, is it? He's backup CB who only gets to play in his proper position when Busquets gets his next red card 13 years from now.

You're right. He's totally appreciated and everything is great between player and club.

Besides the money.

Backup CB? Stop believing everything you read in the media. Xavi said he will play an important role if he stays and that isn't at CB. Barca can play politics but this isn't preseason anymore, the best players should be starting and currently Gavi is not ready.

I never said everything is great between the club and player but it's evidently not beyond repair. His agent can be a prick, that is fine but the player still obviously wants to stay.

Not sure where this idea comes from that he isn't getting paid either; he is getting his deferred wages on top of his normal wages right now, this season, next season and the season after etc. It's possible IF he leaves, he would be owed 17million in deferred wages BUT he has shown zero intention of leaving for 3 months now. His current situation: get paid huge amounts of money, playing at an elite club going for all trophies and settled in a beautiful city with his fiancé. Not sure many footballers would want to change that.

Why dont United just kill this deal and stop fking with us....unless maybe its still on? Is it? No it cant be...unless.... fk you United just end this already!

We’ve gone all out signing other players just to make it look it like we can’t afford De Jong so Barcelona pay up. Top poker playing.

Casemiro + Antony may turn De Jong’s head.

That’s without a new RB too!

Patience. Out of three let's see who is going to blink first.

Fair points, but a few points have been omitted.

It has been reported that Barcelona at least at one point agreed a transfer fee with United. It would be highly irregular for a club which has no intention of selling a player to agree to a fee for such a sale. It has also been reported that Barcelona have demanded that he waive the deferred payments he agreed to and it's been reported that the club have demanded that take a wage cut. And it's pretty clear, barring injury, that Frenkie does not figure into Xavi's plans as a regular starter for either in midfield or at CB.

These assertions (not facts, as it's hard to believe anything coming from the British or Spanish media without multiple confirmations) do not allow the conclusion that Frenkie will leave...or that he will stay. We'll find out soon enough, but it does seem as though Frenkie holds all the cards especially if he really is willing to pull a Bale on Barcelona.

Very amazing person I admire like behaviour if he stays. Have pride. You might love the club/city but you should not accept anyone treating you like that. Weird mentality.
What a fecking weird post.

If he stays then he’s sat racking up the money he is owed, in a city he and his fiancé love, where’s the issue? Would you give up 17 million just so that some weirdo on the internet doesn’t refer to you as a “amazing person I admire”

I think there is probably some truth in his salary/what the club owes him factoring in to this. One can argue the details but it seems likely to me that it has been an impediment in this process. If and when that is cleared up then it seems to me our chances to get a deal done are improved.

I also think there is truth that Barcelona is willing to move him, that he alleviates some issues for them if we can get this done. There don't seem to be any teams chasing him like we are, either.

What I don't buy is the idea that he is against going to MUFC. Our new coach knows him well, so if Frenkie was hard set against joining us I am sure ETH would call off the dogs. He has not, thus I expect there is still a chance to get this done.

One week left and yes it's a longshot. Maybe a lottery ticket level longshot. But there is a chance and the upgrade this player represents means I'm going to keep hoping up until the end of the window.

Didn't he get called a greedy SOB on his way to training? Can see that happening more often if he refuses a pay cut

As far as Im concerned, the glazers need to get FDJ done even if it means going into their own pocket. Assuming its still a realistic possibility as the player and his club are clearly playing a game of chicken.

Its the fecking bare minimum after all the shite they have put the club through. And the impending shit storm that is going to hit them on Monday.

On top of signing Antony of course. MINIMUM.

First of all everything is an assumption here!
For me logic says that he will not get paid his deferred wages if he leaves. Why? I'm sure when Barca stopped paying during COVID they amended contract that those 17mil will be paid in 3 years (for example 2022/23/24) but only if he is playing for Barca. FDJ contract is until 2025 so he was confident that he will get paid. This is where this stupid roadblock to this transfer. Everything is set but FDJ wants his 17mil if he leaves. Barca saying considering that FDJ is leaving and not going to be there in 22/23/24 he will not get his money.

Not sure the Glazers have that much liquid cash, and I'm also not sure they care

If I was a player of his quality I’d back myself to help turn it round, and rebuild especially after 2 games. I’d be excited by the challenge of reestablishing a fallen giant.

The absolute best motivation possible.

See? Proper player. Frenkie needs to take a leaf out of Casemiros book…..

Ten Hag is loaded. He'll buy de Jong himself with his allowance.

The conclusion to the worst saga of all time. Tune in next Frenkie Friday.

Or he will stay because Barca refuse to pay him the money they owe him.

Maybe Barca are finally going to cave on the deferred wage matter, whether that's giving it to him to get him out, or to keep him.

It's not just what they owe him, they are trying to get him to lower his future wages and told him his last contract was a criminal act. He either swallows everything they're throwing at him or they sell him.

I'm still hopeful.

How do Barca think they hold all the Cards in this saga? They have agreed a contract De Jong ffs. And he’s not going to just walk away from 20mill  Barca are fecked.

Judging from the posts that him and his fiancé put on Instagram I think they’re both honestly happy in Barcelona. Recently engaged I think the last thing they wanna do is swap that for Manchester.. and to be honest I don’t really blame them

So basically he has opted to choose his girlfriend over his football career. Women come and go Frenkie, you're a multi millionaire footballer, you have the pick of the later. Grow a pair you soft cnut.

They activated a lever just for him, they love him that much.

Yep.

One last push. Likely to stay but there will be one last push.

I can see United willing to cover his salary.

Barca WILL NOT want to pass up on €85m + maybe another €10m if deferred salary is covered. And will not want to pay him €25m this year.

Barca need him to go now. The longer this goes on, the far likelier they will have to cover his full deferred salary.

Still think there’s a huge chance this happens, once Casemiro & Antony are announced, we’re almost half a new team with FDJ, that’ll turn his head considering his shitty Barça situation.
This is the window for the club to absolutely go mental with the spending, after last season there’s no doubt that’s what should happen.

Entire new left side of defence, entire new midfield and an exciting forward. It’s backing the manager big time if it happens.

Imagine seeing:

Casemiro FDJ
Eriksen

would be the biggest midfield upgrade in history surely?
