Frenkie is expected to start this weekend vs Sociedad and Xavi has admitted should he stay, he'll play an important role. Posts here about him being a **** or benched are childish fiction. The player stood his ground, is getting paid the money he's owed and will have a great chance at winning trophies this season with his dream club, I wouldn't call that weak mentality. Joining a club only for $$$ at 25 would be weak mentality...

The only reason Frenkie would possibly start is because of Busquets' suspension. That's not exactly paying an important role, is it? He's backup CB who only gets to play in his proper position when Busquets gets his next red card 13 years from now.

You're right. He's totally appreciated and everything is great between player and club.

Besides the money.

The thought only of landing Frenkie and Casemiro in the same window with Antony as a bonus is already very satisfying. Now imagine we really gonna pull this off.

Seems to me that part of the what convinced Madrid to sell was that we would not be buying Frenkie from Barca.

Funny how the Sport and British press stories about Chelsea's imminent stance on de Jong has completely dried up since we pulled back. Almost as if the Chelsea interest was utter and complete nonsense.

Even if we sign him and Antony as well, do not let any of that distract from the bigger picture. We can still have a good window and protest all season if necessary.

Matt Law (probably the best Chelsea source) reiterated within the last day or two that we were still interested. But we’re in the same situation as you guys are in. We can only get him if he wants to go. Which he evidently doesn’t.

Two suitors holding flowers waiting for a girl IF she leaves her current squeeze.

Aren't you guys is for fofana as well?

Yes. I think we’ll get him and Auba and then our business is done. De Jong was only ever an extreme long shot if Barca/Xavi told him that he must go.

Good, it would then the chances of you sweeping him up becomes almost nonexistent, works in our favor.

Fred won't benefit from this signing. He plays well for Brazil as the tempo of international football is far slower than the prem. He isn't cut out for the prem as he can't handle the speed of the game and unfortunately for us, other teams have longed worked this out when targeting him.

Edit. This was meant for the Casemiro thread ffs

The funds should still be there in theory if we've made an €80m bid for Antony, but I don't think it's likely we'll be putting big money towards another midfielder. Barcelona/de Jong have dragged their feet on this for too long and I think we've given up the ghost.

If there was even a small chance of it still happening I'd rather see that Antony money redistributed to de Jong and go for a cheaper winger. Casemiro and de Jong would be incredible, even if the rest of the team around them would be a bit shit.

I'd rather use the Antony money towards getting de Jong too but I doubt de Jong is happening. It would probably take around £80m for Ajax to accept an offer for Antony. We can get Sergej Milinković-Savić for approx £45m and Gakpo for approx £35m. That way we have redistributed the Antony money on a winger for half the price, who is of a very similar ability level and both coming from the same league and around the same age. We then also sign that must needed ball carrying midfielder we need in the squad.

We could potentially have a midfield 3 of Savic, Casemiro and Eriksen and a front 3 of Gakpo, Ronaldo, Sancho

Maybe, but playing next to Casemiro can only help Fred. I wouldn't be surprised if we get more out of Fred because of the Casemiro signing.

I gave up on this a long time ago but now that we have Casemiro I want this even more.

I don’t see us spending a shit ton on Antony and FDJ after Casamero. The conundrum is which one is more important. I have to say FDJ because our MF is a fecking mess. We fix the MF, the forwards we have will score goals. Signing another attacking player won’t see us magically fix anything.

After chucking 80m on Antony I'm sure this is dead now, with Casemiro and Antony (if he's forcing a move) that's a total of 220m euros on signings, I doubt United would spend 290m euros in a window. Unheard of.

if the Glazers somehow spend close to that money I really question what they've been doing the last decade and why all of a sudden they're spending.

I get your point, I just reckon dits the opposite. I think mid of casamero, fred, eriksen/bruno is good enough to get us through the season. On the wings though we are basically down to Sancho. As it stands the rashford of 3 years ago is gone, elanga is nowhere near good enough and we have nobody else. At least antony would immediately increase the quality on the right, we can put sancho on the left and see if rashford gets motivated on the bench.

It has to be one or the other, there's little chance United can afford FDJ after Antony

United have been spending like drunken sailors during the past decade, largely on a ridiculous wage bill.

Yes exactly. We dont have the players who get the ball to the attackers. We need that player. It would make our team collectively better, its such an important position. Think Thiago, Jorginho, Rodri, Busquets, Veratti.

FDJ is that player. If we dont get him, we need a player in a similar profile.

All the attacking players mean nothing when they dont get the ball in dangerous areas. Bruno, Sancho, Rashford, Martial, Eriksen, Antony(?) would all be playing much much better with a proper playmaker in the midfield.

Garnacho is ready. He should be playing over Rashford in my opinion but it appears ETH thinks otherwise.

Both positions do need backups and reinforcements. We already see what happens when we’re down a starting striker. Martial was great in preseason. I thought he should be sold and still do but was prepared to see him have one last shot under a new manager while we reinforce more important areas. I think Ronaldo is causing us real problems just being in the squad with his antics and whining attitude.

We lost Pogba and Magic and it appears we’re signing Casamero as a direct replacement for Matic. Eriksen is a more attacking player. Fred and McTominay both missed games over the previous seasons. I don’t think we could go wrong prioritizing FDJ if we can get the deal over the line vs someone like Antony or Gapko.

We could sell Maguire for £80m and Shaw for £30m odd?

Very **** like behaviour if he stays. Have pride. You might love the club/city but you should not accept anyone treating you like that. Weird mentality.

Again why are people saying FDJ or his agent are in the wrong here? He signed a valid contract. He isn't sulking and saying he won't play. He isn't saying he won't train. This guy shows up to work, does his job and collects the pay agreed LEGALLY and somehow he is in the wrong?

He’s not in the wrong he’s just a weirdo for wanting to stay somewhere you aren’t wanted.

Laporta doesn't care about something as basic as facts and reality. He makes up his own reality and pays his friends in the media to peddle that reality. All it comes down to are two things.

1. He is owed a lot of money that Barca doesn't want to pay.
2. Laporta wants to be seen as the genius saviour of Barcelona
