You're right, it was hard to ressit the urge to do so i suppose.

Even then bartomeu did much more in ruining them with his spendthrift attitude in the market.

He's a player that works best playing in a double pivot that likes to bring the ball forward so he's NOT a DM. Other than Pogba who was erratic at best FDJ would be the link that's been missing for so long to connect defence with attack which would be just as important as signing a proper DM. Think of him as a more adventurous Carrick.

He'd kind of remind you of that brief period LVG played Di Maria as a deep lying central midfielder, but with better passing.

You don't get the gist of him at Barca due to playing out of position, but when you see him playing for the Netherlands he controls every game. Probably my favourite player to watch (when playing for the Netherlands).

If you have the chance, I'd recommend watching the upcoming international matches. They've got Belgium tomorrow where I expect him to dominate yet again. YouTube "vs" videos of him are good watch, too. Especially his recent performance against Germany:
 
Wales have got The Netherlands this Month so I'm looking forward to having a look at FDJ and Timber.

But in some way there are mulitple managers who try to push De Jong in to a frame in which he clearly not fits.

At Barcelona he is trapped in a web of false expectations. He is being told he needs to score more. The real problem is rarely talked about. As long as Busquets is the compass of the team, the team can't be formed in a way that there is place for the real talent of Frenkie De Jong. Busquets is not comfortable in a 4231, meaning in the past three season not much has really changed.

Ten Hag has said something about this after De Jongs departure to Barcelona. That he functions best in a double 6 role and has a large degree of freedom to get involved in the game. In the year where he was voted amongst the best midfielders in the Champions League - as an Eredivisie player - he rarely scored goal. He did however have incredible impact on the build up of play.

In Catelonia there has not been a positive development since Xavi took over. His game became more unnotable and signs that Xavi is planning to move the game more De Jongs way arent there. The opposite sounds more true, that De Jong is being told in a very friendly way on the pitch that he is being kindly requested to play football somewhere else. If Pedri wouldnt have gotten injured, de Jong would have spent the final part of the season on the bench next to Memphis Depay. Now in stead he tagged along on the pitch on a place where he doesnt belong.

It is ofcourse no coincidence that Julian Nagelsmann jokes about wanting to bring Kylian Mbappé and Frenkie de Jong to Bayern more than anyone else. The German manager would be able to explain clearly why De Jong would be the ultimate player next to Joshua Kimmich. The last thing that would be expected of him there would be goals. De Jong needs a coach who plays him to his qualities.

The past three years we have been looking at a lesser version of what could be a inredible football player. The Spanish and Catelonian media are right when they conclude that for 86 million euros he has been a failure. Sporadically there was applause when the was decisive with a goal or assits. Never did Nou Camp see the playfull footballer who thought it was a good idea to trick Benzema in his own box. The cheerful midfielder who played with a smile on his face and had a smashing impact on the build up and attacking play. Thát Frenkie de Jong we will only see again when he has been freed from Barcelona.

Use FdJ right, and he is a fecking Unicorn. I’ve watched Barcelona a fair bit the last two years, and they are not using him to his potential. In fact, since Xavi came, even more so.

Get out Frenkie! Barça are going backwards.

Bayern just completed the signing Gravenberch. No way they are going to pay 70m for a player that most likely wont even start for him

The first half of the video he looked a bit frustrating. Passing backwards, not moving with the ball, stray passes forward. But second half looked a lot better and more progressive with his play.

How is he when being pressed generally? He looked easy to force backwards at times but then others he'd pick a pass forward between the lines or go past a player.

i think he's one of the most if not outright the most press resistant players out there.

He literally got a move named after him (& said move being implemented into fifa like after Berbatov did that spin against West Ham) because he's so good at turning away from pressure.

It's a bit different to Xavi's la Pelopina as Frenkie usually runs ahead of the ball to feint instead of keeping the ball locked on his feet.

Bayern's cheap business model only applies in Bundesliga market. Outside, they still spent 80m on Hernandez, 60m on Sane, and 45m on Tolisso. Although, I can't see them spending money on de Jong since they have enough midfielders.
