I hope this is true but it makes little sense to me. Even if De Jong had no interest in Chelsea he'd want to signal interest to them so he has multiple contract offers if he decides to move.
There's nothing wrong with Barca asking a club to cover his back wages, that's not fundamentally different than just asking for a higher transfer fee. What's despicable is pressuring a player to take a paycut, smearing him as a criminal in the media and deliberately turning the fans against him.
