I still don't understand him moving to Chelsea for 2 reasons:
  1. They don't really need him. Tuchel himself doesn't think that signing midfielders is a priority
  2. It would take their spending once the summer is done probably to over 300m
But their interest seems to be genuine, which is puzzling to be honest. Something is fishy about that Boehly dude.
Boehly probably doesn't know that FFP is a thing, or if he does he thinks it'll be fine because London will give him tax credits and a new taxpayer funded stadium when he threatens to move the club to Stoke.

It don’t matter to the player if that team can win. They just want to play in it every year.
Wich makes no sense to me,if you cant win it then you can give it a year to help United back to greatness,i have faith in ETH!

Pretty Clear now that Chelsea are interested. I'm still hopeful, not looking ideal at the moment.

They have waaaay bigger problems than a CM, like a striker and defenders.

No doubt, but there is definite interest, way to much smoke for there not to be any fire. I'm still hoping there's going to be a twist and he signs for us. Ornstein hasn't said anything other than there's interest, as far as ive seen neither has Romano.

It does make sense. Good Players always want to play in the best competition snd the UCL is the best club competition. You think Ronaldo joined us cause he thought he was going to the win the UCL? But we wouldn’t have signed him if we didn’t finish in the top 4.

He has to invest 1.7bn into the squad and stadium. It was a requirement of buying the club. So it’s burning a hole in his pocket

You are very wise but I should have got that from your username ....hang on a minute are you a famous wizard ?

Am I right in thinking they have to register players by Sat? So one way or another we should be at an end to this?

Look at the LA Dodgers the last ten years under Boehly, they were outside the top ten in spending and being outbid by small market teams and not winning anything when his group took over. As a SF Giant fan I loved it. Now they are the biggest spenders in baseball, reinvested in their stadium and won a World Series. Looks like Chelsea are on the same path.

It is going to be humiliating for Barca if they can't register players for the weekend, so something has to give somewhere.

I have faith that we got De Jong by friday mate, you heard it here first

Ronaldo is 37 mate and De Jong is 25 but i get what you are saying, i just have to believe that De Jong believes in ETH and wants to come.

If not my muppet heart will break.

They've been on that same path since Roman was there.........

It’s a shame we lost out on Fabian as he would’ve been as good a signing.

Not sure where we go now.

Is that maybe not oncerning though? The Ten Hag moves seem to have been people who have played in Holland and now the likes of Rabiot, Arnautovic and still going after DeJOng 4months later towards the end of the window, very poor.

It doesnt seem like any one was ready for the recruitment process this summer and that includes the manager.

The sheer number of players we havent made moves for before these desperate attempts is literally bewildering. Liek you mention Caqueret, half the price of DeJong yet seemed to be only tentative interest from Milan and he ended up signing a new contract, would of cost half the price of DeJOng, half the salary and more lilely ot have beein interested, there have been excellent young players on free moves like Kamara, there are still strikers like AMine Giouri and only tentative press reports of Madird interested.

How on earth have we ended up here only so far signing one possible serious upgrade, having only sold one player and now making moves for players with baggage that no other teams are going near whilst still chasing a player that doesnt want to come purely cause his club want to move him on desperately, it is an utter farce
I don't think the manager can take any blame in that. Ajax were fighting for the title until the very end of the season and his focus had to be on that.

I'd expect a far more organised and expedient transfer window next summer.

Absolutely but Barca need to cough up the 17 mil to get him out the door.
[/QUOTE]Both interested clubs will pay imo

The bit that is had to understand is how this squares with the new FFP regulations.
It is not enough to have the money to spend, it has to be sustainable spending and as such a percentage of revenues. This is one of the reasons Newcastle have not done a Man City or for that matter early Abramovich era Chelsea.
Chelsea's revenues simply do not support spending on the level we are seeing this summer and if as reported they end up with Fofana and de Jong this window alongside the purchases they have already made they are not going to have much room for expenditure over the next couple of seasons, they cannot simply pay a wealth tax like an MLB club would.
Boehly may be gambling on rapidly escalating revenues but in football that is never a sure thing. The PL is so competitive that they could easily find themselves outside the CL spots next year and having to change their budget accordingly.

It's not at all. They've tried to shaft him, while also splashing the cash left, right and centre. How is this not barcelona's fault?
What? Where in that have you taken what I said like it's anyone's fault?

Football is different though. As we've seen with United you need more than spending to succeed, and the premier league is extremely competitive. Would you put money on Chelsea finishing higher than 3rd this season? It feels like he's Woody on steroids.

I dont think theres any major hurdle in Barca registering players. I honestly would not be surprised if the whole "Oh no we have to register players in 2 days" BS is just concocted by the current board so that when they do eventually pull it of itll be hailed as a legendary window where they overcame all odds, fixed their money woes and built a world class team all under the able leadership of Laporta and Co. This will allow them to win the new few elections by a landslide.
