Van der Kraan saying we have a agreement with the agent, which imo is a agreement with the player.

Robben and Mikel (agent went to jail for his move to you)

Beyond that I’m struggling. For the reverse, I can’t think of a single name that’s joined you over us? At least not publicly. But I could be wrong.
Yeah can't remember much either.

From Fabrizio Romano on July 8th. He reported specifically that while Chelsea was interested, they informed Barca they would not make a formal bid until the player himself gave the green light.

By my count Boehly has had a reported call to De Jong on several different occasions. The first two, weeks ago, he was basically told “I’m staying at Barca”.

Several outlets are reporting Boehly spoke to him Yesterday and last night. Just Google, they are everywhere.

Now all publications are reporting we have made an official bid and it was accepted today.

So, reports from several reputable sources, including Romano that we would not officially bid unless we got green light from player. Now we are finally making bid.

Take that however you will. Again, the first note on our stance on making the bid was from Romano, quoted on Barcanews, July 8th. I have read the same thing in basically every article on the subject since then.

Not seen this anywhere, do you mind sharing a link?

Let’s raid Barca squad should they go into administration. Forget about FDJ, let’s go for Pedri and Gavi instead.

Because I believe he'll choose Chelsea IF he leaves.

TBH there could be a silver lining to all this: latest report Frank Kessie may leave on a free this summer if Barca can't register him by Saturday. He'd be an excellent midfield signing.

Ok, for the next few days I’m choosing to live in a fantasy world where we end up signing De Jong and Kessie from this utterly shambolic transfer window.

This is like a test of true muppetry from the gods or something. Like if you don’t crack from this, you don’t crack from anything.

At this point I don’t care what happens. He’s not the alpha and omega and there’s plenty of good deals out there if you look hard enough. Even if he is standing on an OT pitch wearing our shirt, there’s going to be some monster expectations on him after all of this and he could just as well underwhelm or even flop for us. I’m leaning more towards taking the £75m or whatever and potentially distributing it across 2-3 players who’d answer more than one of the problem areas we have, than just having FDJ would.

He really is. There's not many players around like De Jong. Perfect player for that regista role.

I remember Spurs doing that when Bale left and it didn't work. That's not to say it won't work for us, but if you were to ask me whether I wanted 4 players on the same level as Rabiot, for example, who is apprently worth around 15M or one De Jong, then I'd pick De Jong. He's a specialist in that role.

Now that you mention it, it is Hirst and Whitwell that haven't changed their tune and think that United are still after De Jong and also after an other midfielder?
I think Hirst said we gave up but then changed his tune too. Maybe only Whitewell and Orny

That's the interesting part for me, despite all the talks about the player preference, it seems that Chelsea themselves don't know it and the only thing that people are actually using as an argument is the CL and not the place. So the key would be to know what De Jong actually think about each clubs near future, it would make no sense to base a 5 year contract on the first 12 months.
Exactly. It's just the Chelsea journalists being optimistic about their prospects combined with the Barcelona journalists trying to push Chelsea as the more realistic option, and we're seeing this come to the fore. The more I read these reports, the more I feel that the Barca journalists' info from Frenkie's teammates is indeed outdated (especially when they mention Bayern Munich, who aren't even involved at this time).

Hazard too. Can’t think of the reverse.

Sounds like things are finally happening and the pendulum might be swinging in our favour.
I’m sure he’s seeking legal advice, but for now, he should seriously consider ever playing in a Barca shirt again.

Yeah, most of the players that have left or are on the brink of leaving are at the back or in the forward positions, so keep your fecking hands off De Jong. :p

Sorry, mate, no can do. I was dismissive of this happening when the noise around FDJ to Chelsea first started but I’ve come around to the idea now, and now I really, really want him.

You could be right. Either way they are all seemingly sharing the same info.

I can’t wait for FDJ to swagger into carrington, leaving a £17m trail of tenners billowing about as he climbs out of his lambo as is destined. I can’t wait for all you impatient, irrational, negative, glass half empty, joyless fecks to vomit in your own mouths at the very taste of positivity!

My rational on this is that ETH and co are either a completely inept bunch of transfer morons, or the reason we kept interest in this was because behind the scenes it was clear that it was far more lightly to happen than to not. It would probably be the most embarrassing of situations a manager could find himself in on his first season at a new club, if he waited about like a lost puppy only to have the door slammed in his face. Is ETH that sort of guy? I just don't believe he is. If it was as clear as day from the early stages that this was way too long a shot, I believe we would have move off elsewhere. I reckon ETH has been given a promise directly from FDJ.

Or he's a complete imbecile which does not bode well in other departments of our club and game.

If this isn't just posturing and he's actually dead set on staying despite everything they've done you'd have to question his sanity,

Luckily it's posturing and he's currently trolling Zoopla for cheshire mansions

You're not going to hear anything other than he wants to fulfill his contract and remain at Barcelona for fear of any sort of contract breach Barcelona will try to throw at him
