Barcelona are a shambles financially. They play in a league that doesn't make anything like the money the PL does. You may wish our club spent beyond our means and gambled the future of the club on the prospect of short term gain but don't try and claim anyone that doesn't is arrogant. There is absolutely every reason to be appalled/amused at barca at the moment. They may not even be able to register players they've signed. I think you just want United to sign players, which i get, we all do. I just wouldn't want it to be to the detriment of the club a la barca.

Nothing chelsea today, and I call BS on the PSG link. Still think we’re the only team that’s really in for him.So whats new regarding the Chelsea stuff. I've not heard much on them today, although i've been out most of the day, so i've not kept up to date.

Even if we get De Jong, we clearly still need another midfielder. Someone in the shape of N'Golo Kanté but with more years in the tank. De Jong is not a natural defensive midfielder. He's a brilliant player of his type, but we would still need a better screen in front of the defence to allow De Jong/Fernandes/Eriksen a platform. Crikey, when you actually mention all those players in the same sentence and imagine a quality DM backing them up, it sounds great.

Completely understand why he’s holding out for a better option than coming to us. He’s too good for us and is at an age where you don’t want to waste years of your career.

This going to back fire massively, we wasted all summer putting all our focus on chasing de Jong, then we go into the new season with a lack of quality signing, we get schooled by a mid table side after off the back of a toxic season and de Jong will be thinking screw that why join that mess of a club in rainy Manchester for sunny Barcelona who have shown intent this summer to challenge for top honours.

Starting to worry now that he’s not the answer. Donny has shown it’s a big step up from Dutch League to EPL. FDJ has not been hacking it at Barca, so not sure why he’s going to solve our problem(s). We’ve wasted a summer window in pursuit of one player, when we need so much more. Love him as a player but we’ve got so many other problems that we are not fixing. Massive wake up call for ETH today - we need more than just your mates to sort this out.
