Says $1.5Bn debt. They have a similarly massive but easier rebuild job to us. Easier because their league is less intensive, less physically demanding and less competitive.
Funny how the Spanish teams always seem to do well in Europe even though they have a crap league.

Doubt the club would be negotiating a fee only to then find out the player doesn't want to join. That makes no sense. We obviously got a green light from Frenkie.

That's IF we are negotiating though

But why? What do they gain from leaking that? To increase excitement?
Its likely part of a welp established relationship. Agents often rely on journalists to push news or generate interest for their players. In return I am sure journalists expect some genuine information on big movements.

He didn’t say they had a crap league. He said it’s easier for them to rebuild because they aren’t competing with City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Conte’s Spurs and Newcastle’s billions. Which is obviously true. Aston Villa who finished in the bottom half of the table have just taken Seville’s starting CB off them ffs. The finances in the EPL are on a different planet to other leagues across Europe and that gap is growing.

I’m hopeful, but doom and gloom seems the safer route to take. We’ve been down this road so many times before — Vidal, Sneijder and others — it’s no longer to funny to laugh at the joke that it’s become. Yet we finally have a manager who both charisma and is no clown, so perhaps it is safe to be hopeful.

Whitwell is quite reliable

Would love him here, but he doesn’t look interested and I don’t blame him, wouldn’t be getting to worked up about this one.

The journalist might have built good relationship with the agent, as a result, football agent has no issue to share this information to the journalist they have built good relationship with.

This will be done in the coming weeks. Soon Frenkie will agree to join and then we only need to sort out the financial and contract details. Obvious where this is heading.

Don’t really see how Barca can ask for such a fee. He cost them 75 million 3 years ago, and now they’re desperate to sell a player who only has 2 years on his contract. We shouldn’t be paying anything over 50.

De jong, go do it
When you want to go to it
De jong, come to it

De jong, don't do it
When you want to stick to it
De jong, do do it

You're not even *trying* to sign Pedri...ffs. what even is the point of your club :wenger:

At least screw them on the transfer fee

I mean we're out there fighting the good fight, trying to stop Liverpool from winning the CL and this is how you thank us? By helping those cnuts sign Lewandowski and you're not even taking Pedri away?!?!

Some friends you are....

I see that your still traumatized by the fact that Madrid missed on Pedri due to him allegedly not being *good* enough....
Also never get your hopes up on this club we couldn't even stop ourselves from. Getting spanked 9-0 by our blood rivals.

He's 3 years older than Sancho and has 100 apps for Barcelona in La Liga, a much better league than the Bundesliga.

He's not better as a b2b just because he does better in a double pivot than as the lone no 6. In fact his best spell at Barca was under Koeman as the DM when Busquets wasn't available or as a CB even. He also plays as the sole no 6 for Holland, which LVG considers his best position.

Him having to play b2b at Barca is one of the reasons he's been relatively underwhelming. He's a deep lying playmaker.
The reason he does better in a 2 is not because he cannot defend as some have suggested. It's because he can be more adventurous (ETH's words) on the ball and take more risk.

He is a good player as I've said, just defensively or in tackling I don't think he's as strong as some other DMs, and the bigger worry is the fee. Which is why I compared to Sancho, both at around £50m would be good buys, but £70m really limits what we can do on other players. Probably one £40m player and a £20m player, which combined with FDJ isn't going to be enough for us.

I’m bored of this one already. Barca need to sell we want to buy…

Good points, cheers.

From the sounds of it we don't have a green light, more of an amber one. He's clearly not jumping at the chance but it seems he can be brought around to the idea which is better than an outright no.

He's brilliant and there is no other midfielder near his quality available for us. If we get him and a very good DM, I'll be okay with this summer. Would really need Bruno, Sancho, Rashford, Varane to step up though.

FDJ has contract until 2026

First you must win the CL, then United will try to sign Pedri :)

I honestly have a lot of curiosity in P. Torre.
His technical conditions are spectacular, if he is mentally strong we can have another important young man.

We still need a striker. Even with the midfield 'sorted' we can't start the season with a 37 year old Ronaldo as our only centre forward, (I'm not counting Martial as an option since he doesn't even want to come back).

Ah fair enough, I assumed it was 2. Either way if you’re desperate to shove him out the door I don’t see why you’d demand a higher fee than the one you paid. I think if this gets done it’ll be between 50 and 60 million.

Far from ideal but have Rashford, Martial, Hugill, McNeil go at it. Or get someone transfer free.

Nunez is too expensive for this summer and there isnt really anything out there. This is 2nd striker we are talking about. I do recognise it isnt great.

We’re desperate for a midfielder, have no champions league, are one of the richest clubs in the world. It’s not a position of strength for negotiating unfortunately.

That said, those kind of fees for deeper midfielders never seem to be worth it.
