So then how is it like he’s married to us?! :wenger:
He hasn’t commited one way or the other, so he hasn’t cheated on us and he hasn’t impregnated chelsea. It was a silly analogy.

It's about us making assumptions about his desires/intentions. You've just misinterpreted it, that's all.

Chelsea are now heavy favourites with the bookies to sign De Jong. We were favourites at evens with Chelsea 3/1, but overnight those odds have swapped.

What the feck happened?

:(

Those markets are notoriously fickle. A few £5 bets lumped on Chelsea and suddenly their odds will shorten significantly.

It would make even less sense for the club to maintain their optimism if they knew there was no chance of him coming. That would REALLY make us look stupid.
For them to keep putting out this info, they must have some pretty solid assurances... or ten Hag truly is an incompetent fool. I might be optimistic, but i know what i believe. Based on Timber/Brobbey, i'd say we'd move on if we were told that we didn't stand a chance.
That’s actually a fair point

Ronaldinho!
You know that was Laporta in his first period, right?

Laporta had promised to buy Beckham, but we sold Beckham to Madrid, so he went and gazumped our Ronaldinho transfer. Probably for the better as we wound up getting Cristiano, who was being scouted by Liverpool and Arsenal.

He doesn't want to come, mate.
Aren't you making an assumption there? Theres no proof that he doesn't want to come, it's all reports in Spain that are saying that. All he's ever said is he'd rather stay, but he's never ruled out moving to United to the media.

She just said Neves and Renato Sanches were our back ups to FDJ yesterday despite Sanches never playing as an "anchor" as she put it before. Since then Sanches has been confirmed to PSG. Why exactly is she considered reliable?
I don´t know she just inspires me...

I’m not sure what’s more tragic. Us missing out on FDJ or my employers paying me to sit in the FDJ thread. (Extended lunch break/afternoon break/hometime)

Us missing out on Francaise De Jeux is unproblematic.

Your employers paing you to work and you sitting in the FdJ makes them trustful and you suspect.

Your employers paying you to sit in the FdJ thread would make them either psychotic or a news platform desperate for sources.

Is there no other player in the World that could do as well as De Jong for United in CDM or a real prospect that's worth targeting?

I find that hard to believe.

She isn't considered reliable.

But she is fun to look at.

I think we all know at this point it comes down to the deferred wages. We have to remember Barca approached us about this deal, not the other way around, they need the money, they need him off the books, we should have threatened to walk away, or something and forced them to solve the wage issue with Frenkie.

Not sure if that was the case tbh. I think he was one of ETH's targets without barca offering him to us.

The fat cnut.

Or they're like every other employer paying people to sit at home refreshing the FDJ thread.

We have no firm proof that this is the case though, it's just all journalist reports that state that. Mainly Sport.
There has been absolutely nothing from de Jong that says he's not really interested in joining United, all thats been said is he'd rather stay at Barca. There has been so many conflicting reports on this saga, and pretty much all of them have originated in Spain.

Iirc there ware quotes from the player himself that he is aiming to stay at barca. Also there were some news that were probably leaked by his team. Albeit i can understand he's playing hardball due to what he's owed...but then again, he might really ne not into joining us.

It is possible that FDJ had given ETH assurances that he was coming but has now changed his mind after speaking to Tuchel in the last couple of days.....entirely possible.

Wasn’t it we agreed a fee, Kenyon agreed to go to Chelsea so purposefully fecked it up? We agreed a fee, Ronaldinho said to Kleberson see you in Manchester and then Kenyon made a lower bid that the amount we agreed.
It honestly stunted my emotional growth as I watched him win the Balon Dor that very next season

It's exactly the other way around: how can people be relentlessly optimistic after nearly a decade of shite? The almost constant disappointment must be soul-crushing after all that optimism.
In fairness, I get the opposite vibe from this thread.

Being positive has to be exhausting when random guys on twitter constantly play whack-a-mole with your spirits.

My mood isn't detirmined by the transfer market or manchester united performances to be fair. It would be strange for something out of my control to be soul crushing.

I really want us to sign De Jong, i have no idea if he's going to come or not. If Ten Hag's still in, i'm still in. I'm buzzing for the season to start, regardless if McFred will be playing. Optimism takes zero energy.

So if he's really not into joining us, and going from our history with walking away from Timber/Brobbey, why haven't we done so now? If there was any indication, no matter how small, that de Jong didn't want to join us, then we'd be out of there. It would make no sense to stick around in the hopes he changes his mind. We've obviously been told something from FdJ or his team that gives us huge confidence. Maybe he really likes the sound of ten Hags project, maybe he's been told he'll be star man and always play in his favoured position... who knows

No I'm just getting the impression from the various reports that, as you say, he'd rather stay at Barcelona (so, he doesn't to come here) but if it was unavoidable because of the economics, he would be open to moving to United.

It's also based on various reports that if he did have to leave Barcelona, he would be more open to a move to Chelsea than us.

I think the statement "Frenkie De Jong does not want to come to United" is a fair conclusion, based on that info.

I'm not saying he won't come, but it's not looking likely right now. And the fact United are briefing we're still confident of getting the deal done, I find a bit bemusing.

If United are confident. WHY are they confident? That would be nice to know.

We are confident because we have agreed a fee with Barca. De Jong's agent has presumably let it be known that his client is at least 'open' to a move to United if the deferred salary situation with Barca is resolved.

Chelsea will also have spoken to De Jong's agent and have good reason to be confident too, of course - in Ornstein's piece he says that they are now "optimistic" of beating us to De Jong's signature.

Snake if that's the case but will hold back for now

Again, reports... we don't know where they've come from, who they've come from too. Could be planted by Barca to get more interest in him or to get United to pay up. We don't know.
It's like Ornys info, is it from England, or is it from Spain? No one else seems to be reporting it yet, and you'd think that with it being big news, more reporters would have picked up on it and verified it by now. Not saying it isn't true, not at all, but it's just a bit odd.

The fact that United are still briefing makes me think that we have more assurances from de Jong than we think we do on here. We wouldn't stick around for no reason at all just in case
