Its a free world and people are allowed to make choices. Let's move on to players that are ready to play for us, that way they will be ready to fight during the bad times.

I wouldn't sell him but we are broke af and have very promising youngsters to play in his position. I have the feeling his style of play will suit the Premier League very well. He likes to make runs with the ball. He is not that much into the passing, passing, passing football we try to play but haven't done well since Luis Enrique left.

I think its critical we get a top midfielder as our first signing.

Teams are waiting to hold our feet to the fire knowing we are desperate to reshape that area of our team.

I wouldn't read too much into the press reporting his "decision".

These things will change daily.

This has potential to be the saga of the summer which will drive half the caf crazy again

Why can't we move on from this transfer,no point in pursuing a player that seem disinterested to come.

That's using the wrong translation as has been detailed in this thread already

This is a random tweet?
Seriously wtf.. These tweets are what people base their opinions on that they dont want him here and/or making Di Maria comparisons?

Imagine having to convince top players to come and play for you when you arent in the CL next season... Some fans in here are making United way smaller than they are, but if you feel United currently still has the status top players in their peak age blindly sign for you, you are equally deluded..

Is it me or does it feel like the Spanish media is pushing this news too much and giving a new story every other day??!!

All this talk of Barca being his 'dream' club. Are we going to ignore the fact that the reason he is on such high wages at Barca is because they had to up their offer if not he would have joined PSG from Ajax.

Same feeling. I doubt ETH and FdJ let these people join their private conversation. And I doubt these Spanish sources speak Dutch.

Likely just the drama like how Mbappe already signed pre contract with Real Madrid based on pure speculation. Only fact so far is that Barcelona has to find financial answer for new transfer, and what the way they put it FdJ is very much transferable.

Clearly, there is a chance. Hence, they are trying. But I am sure they won't waste much more time.
Oriol Domenech is as reliable as it gets.

Time to move on then.

Who is this Rahman guy and why do all his translations have a pro-Barca spin to them? Surely he's just a fan translating stuff.

Oriol said initially Frenkie said no, but ETH is still talking with him. So it's not definitive yet. But this Rahman person casually left out the "initially" part.

Apparently Oriol Domenech covered the FDJ to Barca story in 2019 in a similar way(talking about phone call conversations and similar intricate details) and got everything spot on. It's why his news is being taken seriously on Twitter

It does feel to me that if we sign two top midfielders, other transfers might fall into place. Is this guy that? well, to me, he's among the best who are available. With all Barca's troubles this season, they still finished second in La Liga, way above the likes of Villareal and Valencia so they (and he) couldn't have been that bad and he can play central or defensive midfield. And, if i remember rightly when he was more defensive, Mr Nunez didn't for 180 mins in the CL.

I think he is as good as we can attract right now - and don't tell me he isn't an upgrade on what we've got!

Worth it in my opinion, however Dominic is top Barca source and says he won't move to a non Champions League club
Really sick of reading this over and over. Liverpool and Chelsea finished in the Champions League places by the skin of their teeth last season. Every top team in the league but City is a few key injuries away from struggling to make the top four. If Champions League is so important to him, he should join City or a league in which it's always guaranteed for the richest clubs.

We have missed out on UCL too many times in the past 6 years

There is absolutely no way we'd get to the stage of agreeing a fee with Barcelona without De Jong being interested

Laurie confirmed this morning we're still pushing for this deal.
That coupled with the latest update from Oriol Domenech suggests that maybe United feel Frenkie's mind can be changed little by little otherwise we'd have walked away.
It's clear Barcelona will sell and Utd are willing to pay a good fee so fee isn't an issue.
Another advantage is Utd are the team most strongly interested in him(possibly the only ones)
I'd say we'll get a full conclusion to this saga within 2 weeks

Considering Barca must sell players i could easily see this being two separate discussions. Barca don't give two stuffs about his opinion, i'd imagine Barca is lining up multiple offers/deals for players. The player will be told they are being sold, and then they will have to agree a deal with X club that meets their personal terms.

On the one hand, I want him if ETH wants him, but absolutely no reports/tweets in this thread have convinced me this is anything but another disaster in the making should ETH struggle. This screams that he may only join us because he has no better options and Barca are kicking him to the curb. That is not what we need coming out of this hell-season.

Thank for the info on who this Oriol Domenech guy is.

Still common sense makes me think that he may get fed by his source within Barcelona this time. His source is not FdJ directly and FdJ wouldn't just let anyone know the detail of his private conversation with ETH.

On FdJ to Barcelona, I think he had his source talk to FdJ then leaked it to him.

So like how at one point Di Marzio was tier 1 and got high profile transfer right with plenty of insider details (Pogba, Zlatan). The next, he got it horribly wrong beginning with Renato Sanchez link to us for months with all kind of details (only for Bayern to get him out of nowhere)

it's not that, why would waste time in such an important summer with a player that isn't interested? if he said no, no way, whether or not Barca need to sell or not is irrelevant, we'd move on. Whenever a deal is agreed with clubs it means the player has indicated he's interested in joining. Clubs sound out the player before making a deal with a club

I can't seem to find which news/tweet does the translation reference. Do you have the original.'

Also, as other have said, there is absolutely no point in negotiating with Barcelona, if he said he won't sing with us.

he doesn't have to be interested to join....that's my whole point. ETH may want him, MUFC may want him, but when he's told by Barca that he's being sold and he must choose personal terms with a club, then obviously FdJ is going to have to find a club.

There is not one single report/tweet in this thread that paints FdJ's willingness to join us as anything but a forced move.

My biggest concern coming out of this season is that if ETH struggles and we have this kind of player in our squad again, god help us because Whitwell has his next player-source lined up,

We have missed out on UCL too many times in the past 6 years
So did Liverpool pre-Klopp and now that we have a manager that he knows, who knows him he should know that this is a temporary bleep. But I am not to fussed if he can't be convinced and am also glad that we have started this early so that we can move on early rather than spending the whole window chasing after him like Moyes did with Fabregas.

If we do manage to get him it will be a great coup and will go a long way towards lifting the mood in the squad and he is also the type of player that will enable ETH to implement his style seamlessly and will also help improve our attack indirectly. So it is worth dedicating some time talking him into a move.

He is a top player, f he doesnt want to come that is his choice.

Considering the state the clun is in at the moment, if Barca are desperate to sell and he get other offers, can you really blame him? He is approaching his peak years and we could be 2/3 years or far more away from success again, he could have his best years at a club transitioning with no trophies.

Of course it may be more likely he doesnt want to come due to lack of champions league football or he is simply digging is heels in as he is desperate to stay. Either scenario makes a player we should move on from as its wasting time and we want a player who is really happy to be coming here

Fabregas 2013 vibes here, we'll waste all summer trying to get him and then 12 months later he'll go to a rival (probably City)

They still couldnt sign top players until they were playing UCL

The best ball carrier available.
In the same mould as KDB in ball carrying abilities from Midfield. He will offer so much if he comes.

Camaviga, Keita some of the names who are ball carriers like him. Will be a huge upgrade. He will be our transition king.

Him plus another totally defensive midfielder, we go two levels high.

A deadly striker add on will be massive upgrade in the general team ability.

Then 10 Hag needs to coach the remaining players at least for another 7-10 months, then we go for another round of signings.

maybe i'm reading this thread all wrong and someone can correct me.

Barca don't see him as a vital piece of their midfield moving forward. All new purchases will be funded by their sales. FdJ is up for sale, Barca are likely talking to many clubs, we are obviously in for him. There is no indication in any of the reporting that he views the move as a positive for him personally. He would love to stay at Barca, but Barca are definitely selling him. He likely wants a UCL team, which is not us. However at the end of the day Barca will essentially tell him that he has to choose a new club as he is being sold, they will likely tell him the options available and no doubt ours will rank highly in terms of fees for both parties and from there he's got to make a decision.

That is my summary of the thread so far, is there anything way off?

Maybe he thinks ETH ain't all that special and doesn't want to work with him.

Key points from the Whitwell article, which, I have to admit, is quite clickbaity. Maybe he can't reveal more at this point.

- Actually does not say that we are negotiating with Barcelona. ETH wants the transfer to happen and it is suggested that he wants the midfield sorted before the other areas.
- Move for Kante being considered
- ETH admires Alvares from Ajax
- Nunez being considered for the striker position but we are not willing to pay the supposed 80 mil
- Martial, AWB, Jones, Bailly, Tuanzebe for likelysale with Telles also probably asking for a transfer

I'd be a bit baffled if we're trying to agree a fee without having a pretty much full agreement with the player. So I doubt that's the case.

Big 56 hours ahead by the looks of it. I think we'll be pretty clear of what way this is going by the end of this month.

We need to get back to top 4. Otherwise no top player will join. No trophy in last 5 years. No consistency in league position. ETH has a monumental job.

Understandable he has doubts. There is no guarantee we will play Champions League football next season and we are a mess right now. In fact, it's highly possible we will miss out on CL yet again as City, Liverpool, Chelsea will all finish above us. Thus there is is only one CL spot available for the rest of us.

The jury is still out for Ten Hag of course. We don't know if the owners and board will back him. Our squad is unbalanced as hell and it will be difficult to push players out with their salaries.

If I was Frenkie I would definitely think about it. He may have faith in the manager, but if the club fires the manager within 2 years, where does it leave the player? He will be in rebuild limbo.

The only way I see him join is if his contract includes clauses for him to leave.

Liverpool signed Sadio Mane and Wijnaldum right in the 2016 summer when they missed out on the Champions League by losing in the Europa League final. And mind you, Sadio Mane had already agreed terms with Manchester United for a summer move. But then a Klopp's phone call changed everything. Mane then joined Liverpool and became a part of their attacking trio. (All of these came from Mane himself).

So yes, you can sign good to great players even without Champions League's football. Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Pogba joined United in 2016 because Jose Mourinho was here (for Zlatan). Ten Hag, being a former manager who got the best out of FDJ, obviously has a fair chance to him too.

I am not saying this deal will 100% go through, but the way people are writing us completely off just because of Champions League football is baseless. History proves otherwise.

If this doesn't happen in the next couple of days stop wasting time on it...

I think the concern would be that we may have an agreement because he has no option but seek one. That is the worry. The worry that this is a marriage of last resort. Which doesn't sit well considering what we've just experienced with this squad.

Being open to an agreement with another club for the sake of saving your football career is not the greatest pitch to a successful spell at that club.
