Chelsea love to poop on our transfer parade, going all the way back to Robben, Essien, Mikel, Hazard, Fabregas, Morata, Niguez and Kovacic.

If Barca sell Frenkie & then buy Silva, how does that help their finances ?
I don't get it !!

Yeah, this part is never really explained. Especially if they have to pay all or a big part of FDJ’s deferred wages to get him to leave. Silva is going to be making Lewa money, he wouldn’t go there cheaply. His wage plus the deferred payment to FDJ is going to be close to FDJ’s current wage.

I always believed that they dont need to sell Frenkie, they just dont want an expensive paper weight on the bench. Silva would take them to another level.

FFP. Its De Jongs wages that is the issue. Bernado Silva would be brought in within the new salary structure

The whole Chelsea thing is BS. Sport, a notorious Barca mouthpiece, continually bringing up Chelsea despite Matt Law not even uttering a single line about it, is itself suspicious. Let's face it. It's Sport creating a false competitor in order to draw United into paying a portion of Frenkie's deferred wages in order to get the deal over the line before "Chelsea" does. Guaranteed.

This is getting ridiculous now. Surely Barca need to just pay up and let him leave.

Barcelona clearly want him gone since they are trying to screw him everyway possible by not paying the deferred wages and asking him to reduce his salary WHILE also signing players like Lewandowski. It really wouldn't surprise me at all if they ended up paying Lewandowski a huge signing on bonus that should have been used for FDJs deferred wages.

I think we should start to apply some pressure and give Barca a deadline otherwise go for alternative options. As much as we want FDJ if we wait too long our second choices will become even more expensive the closer we get to deadline day

Have yet to see any Chelsea adjacent journos mention FDJ at all. They're still looking for a CB and possibly a striker.

Doubt they're in the market for a midfielder anytime soon with that crowded MF room as it stands.

Plus I have no idea why Chelsea would do Barca any favors this window after the way they've gone about their transfer business at Chelsea's expense.

Also when Laporta speaks to the media he always mentions multiple clubs are interested and multiple offers have been made for him, despite only United ever being in the picture. Everything that comes out of Barcelona is either lies or twisted truths for the sake of PR and creating a narrative. Seeing how brainwashed the Barca fans are it seems to work on them at least

Become clear as day he's doing the don't want to leave stance as wants his owed money

It's been clear for ages as far as I'm concerned. They want him gone, he wants his money but obviously they want to low-ball him. Something has to give once it's close to La Liga games starting and they still haven't registered all their shiny new toys.

Oh they’ve struck us plenty. Damien Duff too.

But Arjen Robben hurt the most! He was even at Old trafford for a game a few days before he was supposed to be signing.

Keep him at Barcelona. Keep him. Keep him. Keep him. Drama can stay where it is and we don’t need to have more of that.

This thread is getting beyond anything. We are not even talking about a ”star”.

With all their “levers”, Barcelona have money, they just have issues with FFP and La Liga compliance — and one reason may be due to Frenkie’s big salary.

As I understand it, owing to the deferred salary and the loyalty bonuses owed to Frenkie, he’s on course to be earning mega money this season. Like 500k+ a week type of figure. To comply with FFP, I think Barcelona have now put in place their own salary cap, which means nobody (apart from Lewandowski I’d imagine) is getting more than €10m a year, which works out to about 200k-ish(?) a week. Frenkie’s big wage out > Bernardo’s lower wage in should mean that they’re okay compliance wise.

Plus, as others have mentioned, I think it’s just a case of Xavi want want Silva and doesn’t really see Frenkie as a key player. Maybe a bit of a vanity signing personally, I don’t think Bernardo adds anything to their side that some top class fullbacks wouldn’t in his stead.

It's funny how looking back it sucked at the time, but in hindsight I'm only upset that we didn't sign Robben and Essien

Have you tried... doing something else?

Only Robben and Hazard are regretable and at the time, only Hazard actually since Robben aged like a fine wine.
Essien was a blessing because it brought us Essien calculator.

Didnt we basically have Morata dangling on the end of a fishing line and dropped him for Lukaku?
Yup pretty much from what I remember. We were all but ready to get him done and dusted but then we moved for some reason and went for Lukaku.

Dodged a bullet on some of them but yeah we've been done a few times. Am I wrong in thinking it was mostly penny pinching on our end?

Robben (screwed over by Kenyon)

Essien (Fergie looking at different sort of midfielder, hence move for Carrick)

Mikel (farce)

Hazard (unwilling to pay agent fees)

Fabregas (Wild goose chase)

Morata (smokescreen for Lukaku)

Niguez (bullet dodged)

Kovacic (never concrete interest)

I'm past caring.

When did we decide we were fine with waiting it out for decisions from a club that doesn't want to honour contracts + a player that is clearly not that bothered to come to us?

Such a shame we made it so clear we would wait to the very last minute if needs be. Upside is we could reclaim some dignity with a last minute broken fax or something. Egg all over their faces, wankers.

But no, we will meekly finally get our man two months too late and many on here will celebrate like we have won the World Cup. I very much doubt he is worth it.

Wonder what would happen if Barca can't register their shiny new toys.

They will go into the back garden, grab a shovel, and dig out another hidden chest of money, gold, and trinkets. There isn't going to be a scenario where they spend all of this money on big signings, only to then be unable to play them. It would be amazing if this was the case, but it just isn't going to happen. The money will magically turn up. Somewhere. Whether it's from an under the table packet, or a dodgy wired transfer from somewhere, these players will play.

He is definitely worth it because Erik will know exactly how to use him, definitely the centre piece of our midfield rebuild.

I know people find it hard to believe but eventually we won't be starting the deadly duo every week. Unfortunately it's going to take time for it to become reality.

It doesn't. The president is just trying to make a name for himself, making it seem like everything is good and Barca is a top club indeed. Delaying is not solving anything.
If you reverse the situation where they currently have Silva and trying to get rid of him to bring in Frenkie, it will also be seen as something good by the fans. Fans want new good players, that's what they want.

Just my opinion but from what I've seen of both players, Bernardo Silva is superior and a much better fit in Xavi's system. Frenkie can be very good but he's inconsistent, part of this is down to him not playing his favored role obviously.

Fact is, Frenkie de Jong is being paid the wages of one of the worlds top midfielders (Yes it's Barca's fault, mostly Barto but still) and he just hasn't shown that in his time with Barca.
