A professional footballer, in the prime of his career, staying at a club that doesn't want him to, in order to play backup, in a position that he doesn't usually play, for half pay is the least likely scenario put forward in this whole thing.

While anything could happen, anyone pushing that as the most rational outcome has an issue with critical thinking.

You would have a point if 17m-19m weren't the reason behind this issue. That's where critical thinking is lacking when people keep ignoring that the issue is about a very large sum of money, more money than most professional players will see in their careers and more money than most top players make in two years.

Fecking hell. Bit harsh.

 Outstanding

So De Jong is the play backup CB and Barcelona now sign Kounde also, meaning De Jong is further down the pecking order
only in friendlies. For official games all their shiny new toys are yet not registered

And the thing is, there is absolutely no scenario you can compare to this Frenkie one, as there doesn't ever seem to be a similar case like it before. So, to make assumptions on what Frenkie wants is somewhat pointless.

Now, you can say Feenkie has said he doesn't want to leave Barca, which is true. Barca have also said on numerous occasions for him to stay he will need to take a paycut, which he hasn't yet done.

So taking all the above into account, we can comfortably say no one really know where the situation is. However, there supporters like me, who like to use actual logic and the word of trusted reporters who write for United, rather than some Spanish media outlet eho cannot stick to one story.

Yeah its a very unique situation and a very complicated one, which is why I feel he will stay.

I mean the Spanish reporters have no clue whats going on, didnt Romero say 95% done. They are all trying to get clicks, with limited leaks coming out of United, I agree, it is hard to understand what is actually going on.

If you use logic, then how does it lead to him leaving Barca? because the only reason they want him gone is his wages right? So if they pay him what he is owed, then his wages are back in line with everyone else?

100% agreed. You have a gentlemans agreement in place. All of a sudden you strike gold with Pedri and Gavi and now you want to cash in on FDJ and you forget all about the agreement you have in place. It's shocking, really.

It’s also so blatantly obvious that Frenkie’s agent has really screwed up. In agreeing to this deferred wage scenario, he clearly did not anticipate a situation where his client would be asked to leave the club. And is now digging his heels in to get his client and himself a payday. It was reported earlier in the window that Ali Dursan (I think is the agent) and Barca’s relationship is at a breaking point.

Frenkie and his agent obviously believe they still hold the Aces in this negotiation. Barca have to come to the table to offer to settle the wages and if they don’t , they can’t register their new players and have to pay him monster wages + bonuses from next year.

Guys this is looking bad, Ive always found Dermot Corrigan to be one of the first journalists to come up with genuine Utd related news. Most of you have clung on to the hope that it's bullshit from the Barca media but this is different.

He doesn't want to come, never has, Utd are obviously aware of situation through the agent, and have tried to be 'opportunistic' which why wouldn't they, he is a fantastic player, but they have let it go on for far too long.

If there is no Plan B, then they need to think of one quick - amazed if he comes now..
Amazed if there is no plan B

Plan B could be waiting until next year before we can identify other targets. It is clear ETH does not want any players that have not played for Ajax or at least Eredivisie and I cannot think of any comparable midfield targets. I wouldn’t be surprised if he hasn’t had the time to follow PL and identify targets, hence he prefers to work with what he knows.

We will try to get by with McTominay, Fred, Garner and youth and will identify proper targets next year.

We've needed midfielders for years though, surely our scouts have identified some names.

McFred and Gardner must be one of the worst midfields in the league. It was bad last year and that was with Pogba and Matic in the mix.

You can have prime Cannavaro and Nesta at the back and R9 upfront you aint winning shit with a midfield like that. Ironically we keep spending fortunes on defenders...they might actually look half decent if we finally sorted the midfield out.

Yeah. It's seems clear he wants people who can quickly understand and adapt to his structure. I doubt it will be all Dutch linked players next window, but this is where we are for now.
There isn't really many players similar to De Jong, deffo not in the prem.

Our scouts would probably recommend Pogba and Matic

Agreed. If a few more posters were rational, this thread would be less than half the size. Having said that, the bigger the thread the better!

Do they pay him what he's owed and reduce his wage? Or is it that they reduce his wages and not pay him what he's owed?

Also about the logic, Xavi has come out and said he likes FdJ to play in a new role, as CB, a position they have just signed a specialist in Christensen and also agreed to pay €50m+ for another specialist CB. So, from outside looking in, FdJ is going to get very limited time as a cb, he's not going to be used in his preferred position, is being asked to take a 40% pay cut, all whilst seeing Barca spunking endless money on new recruits with money they tell Frenkie they don't have. Oh, and also, Frenkie still hasn't signed the new co tract with the paycut.

So, put yourself in his shoes, using logic, would you be happy to stick at a workplace that treated you like that?

Assuming he, and only him, decides on targets and plans (which, really seems unlikely) then a coach of his standing and experience would be able to identify players that would improve us no end. He has the budget and the gaping hole in midfield. Unless, unless he truly believes McFred and the boys are good enough and that we are all wrong.

A team is dysfunctional without a decent midfield...

Soon we'll be at panic station mode when Brighton play us off the park like they did last season, then we'll all assemble in the Mcfred thread thinking how we let a whole summer pass without addressing the Midfield, De Jong can't be the only player in the world that can fix our midfield problems surely not.
It confuses me when you say “our” midfield and you’ve got Real Madrid listed as the team you support

If that's the case, then it's poor all round. Knowing Mata, Matic, Lingard & Pogba have all left as midfield options, and it is clearly our weakest area of the pitch. For me a CM, RB & Forward are a MUST, we aint competing with Arsenal/Spurs never mind City/Liverpool with the current squad.

I think the way his contract was drawn during covid is that they will reimburse his defered wasges via increased salary from a certain year, which is this season. So if they pay him off, he will be on a lower salary I assume.

On the bolded part, the way Barca have acted, with saying cut your wage and spend 150m on transfers, buy Kessie who plays in his position, I am shocked why he would want to stay?

Secondly, having seen how LVG is, if he doesn't play regularly, is his place for the WC a question? Considering, United will play him every game?

If it was me, I would want to be gone 100%.

That's my point, it's highly unlikely that he'll stay at half wages given the circumstances. It ridiculous to claim that as the reasonable outcome when there are 17million reasons to suggest why he has taken his current stance.

And this is why we have to give Fesnkie and United the benefit of doubt yet. Until Frenkie signs the new contract with a paycut, we have to logically assume he is waiting to be paid out before he leaves.

I can't see NO ONE loving a club so much and stay with the way he's been treated.

1085 pages is nice and all but look at the amount of views.
4 Millions? what the feck, who's watching? seems like we have a lot of non registered people reading this thread for updates.

If he stays at Barcelona, which seems very likely now, how is he even going to get minutes?

They’ll definitely register everyone one way or another. I count Kessie Busquets Gavi and Pedri all ahead of him in CM

And now Ronald A, Christensen, Kounde and possibly Pique all ahead of him at CB

Am I missing anyone

Where do you think all the journos get their updates from?

They all whisper it in the halls of the great journalismistic school “Berba is tier one on the Caf follow his leads”

Who is close journalist to Manutd? Fabrizio has always said he doesn't want to come. In the last 2 days, the Athletic, who actually have journalists who are close to United have also said he DOES NOT want to come to United.

What we need to get straight is, the defered salary is to be paid in the next 2 years via his salary, so he cannot leave, if he does he gives that money up.

So if he wants to stay at Barca, he either carries on the current salary or reduces it. Either road leads to him staying.

We don't know he has specifically told Hen Hag he wants to come.
You are just lack of common sense, really, for the last paragraph.

Nico is also preferred to him, apparently being groomed to succeed Busq
