Incorrectly predicted the de Jong transfer 2022
I'm still utterly convinced that we'll get him. The doomers give me strength
I know, its.. I dunno actually. I can’t fathom how people just un-switch what they don’t want to hear. The coach literally said it himself. Maybe the brains are harder to catch up
But that's not actually what Ten Hag said. He said if you can't find the "right kind of player" on the market, you'll develop one. And that De Jong is this kind of player. Not that he's necessarily the only one of this kind to be found on the market. This is what everyone needs to get past. We aren’t looking for an alternative to FDJ. It’s him or developing current player. It’s why we can hang on there till last day if necessary
Zidane has the edge with his nimble footedness. Garner has some interesting attributes but I dont think he's technically good controller of the ball in tight spaces.I don’t know im not ETH. My guess would be garner or zidane maybe
You need to check this out for yourself mate. I am not here to spend the time naming all the players that have refused to join us in last 4/5 years. Our club has been going downhill since Fergie left.Well, you can go on and list those players because I don't know any.
We were chasing Fabregas in 2013 who was never gonna leave Barca that summer. We also tried for Bale last minute but he had his mind set on Real Madrid for a while by then...even Ferguson wouldn't have changed that imo.
We decided not to pursue Thiago. LVG pulled the plug on the Kroos deal.
The only player I can think of is de Ligt back in 2019, but our interest was never actually confirmed by the most reputable sources if I recall correctly. And it isn't like we would've been first choice all the time for every player had Ferguson not left and/or our success continued after 2013.
Definitely exciting. Both Iqbal and Garner are really exciting prospects and coupled with TH's ability to coach younger players I'd absolutely love one, or both of them to smash into our starting 11, we're overdue a new homegrown star!I’d like it for the giggles but I’d also be excited to see how the development of such players could turn out
I agree. I've literally not seen anything reputable that makes me think otherwise. People will say the Athletic article, but no, that seems more of an opinion piece than anything elseI'm still utterly convinced that we'll get him. The doomers give me strength
We will see soon enough. I don’t see us bringing in another midfielder. He will have been impressed by our kids on tour and no better man to develop young kids. This is not a short-term gig. It doesn’t matter if he wins nothing next year. This is about getting it right, progression in all areas. Buying players for the sake of it is what we tried beforeBut that's not actually what Ten Hag said. He said if you can't find the "right kind of player" on the market, you'll develop one. I think it would be very foolish not to add a quality midfielder even in the, immensely unlikely, case that you can't get De Jong. And I'm pretty certain Man United will buy another midfielder this window.
Sorry in the flood of comments like that I didn't pick it up. :/It’s funny when posters don’t pick up on sarcasm.
What part did EtH play in moulding De Jong?
Might be confident he can do it again
Yeah that’s definitely an advantage, whereas garner is more a carrick type, passing rather than carryingZidane has the edge with his nimble footedness. Garner has some interesting attributes but I dont think he's technically good controller of the ball in tight spaces.
Every good/great centre midfielder now has to be adapt 1v1 or capable of dealing with the press, I dont think Garner has that technical individual ability Zidane has in that area/field.
Agree.I've never been more confident about a transfer ever.

Kids from the academy almost never turn out good enough to break into the first 11 of a top club. It's just simple maths. It's maybe one player every 3-4 years. Of course a top club needs to buy.We will see soon enough. I don’t see us bringing in another midfielder. He will have been impressed by our kids on tour and no better man to develop young kids. That's the spirit . BravoI've never been more confident about a transfer ever.

Yeah think it's wildly optimistic to expect an academy kid to solve our midfieldKids almost never turn out good enough to break into the first 11 of a top club. It's just simple maths. Of course a top club needs to buy.

God no, he’s our pied piper

Well we are due our turn again thenKids from the academy almost never turn out good enough to break into the first 11 of a top club. It's just simple maths. It's maybe one player every 3-4 years. Of course a top club needs to buy.
Not even remotely the same. Chelsea are a much more credible contender for the league title than we are
If they don't get Frenkie sold before their first game all hell will break loose with Lewandowski, Raphinha, Kounde and the rest fuming in the stands. Not saying you're wrong. But why do they need him sold by then?
I hope this is resolved soon, but it feels like it'll go to the deadline before we know either way
It's great if it happens, but it would be negligence to rely on it, I think. Garner has a shot at midfield, sure, but the other kids are complete question marks considering the level they played at so farWell we are due our turn again then
He's our muppet master, he IS the thread!God no, he’s our pied piper
I understand this from ETH comments, but I hope this is not true because it would be a massive mistake. This is what everyone needs to get past. We aren’t looking for an alternative to FDJ. It’s him or developing current player. It’s why we can hang on there till last day if necessary
Why? If we publicly end chase for FDJ, clubs will just raise prices for midfielders we're looking at.If that was the case it would have been briefed.
Maybe, maybe not. But you can't plan it. And certainly Zidane and Savage will not be ready in time. Ten Hag isn't foolish enough, and also wants to win too strongly, to believe that he has THAT kind of time.Well we are due our turn again then
I think Carrick was still capable of beating a player in 1v1 situation though. Wasn't as often but he was capable of it, as was Scholes.Yeah that’s definitely an advantage, whereas garner is more a carrick type, passing rather than carrying
Yes, signing a RW means the search for CM is overThe Anthony deal accelerating is a clear indication that this deal is dead.

Different position. Absolutely not related to the de Jong deal at all. Plus there's nothing saying we'll get Antony other than Ajax saying never say neverThe Anthony deal accelerating is a clear indication that this deal is dead.

Nope. The 17m is baked into the weekly salary, he doesn’t get paid it twice.
But that would mean 17m owed wages wont be paid. Increase in wage is to repay the owed wages. If he gets the owed wage paid in full then 300k per week is an upgrade on what he will earn at Barcelona
By "accelerating" you mean Ajax leaking to their journos that they don't want to sell any more talent so the price tag on Antony is now 100m euros?
