Random thing to chuck in.
How good their signings are isn't the point. That's subjective. But they have to sign players. I'm guessing de Jong wants to them sign players. Unless he wants to play at a mid table club.
I chucked it in because that is the narrative the Spanish media love to use in these situations, same as with Bale.
If you think Barca are going to end up mid table in a 2 club league I am going to need to write a novel to explain this to you. Last season Barca started with the most abysmal team they have fielded in decades and despite much humiliation still never dropped out of the top half of the table and after adding Auba and Torres in January steamrollered the rest of their domestic fixtures to get top 4 and CL football at a canter. CL football is pretty much nailed on every year no matter what team they field in La Liga.
Without blowing all of this cash in the summer they could easily stay top 4 and competitive in all competitions and you know, actually get their finances fixed properly instead of mortgaging future revenue to buy 34 year old Polish blokes. The funny thing is, if they had taken this approach and committed to austerity there is a good chance FDJ would have agreed to a further pay cut as the responsible thing to do but by whizzing millions against the wall on fees and wages all summer to then ask him to effectively cut his salary to help pay for their shopping spree it is little wonder he is telling them to do one.
