Not gonna happen is it, we're never in the running for these special players. Last one we got was Ronny

Brace for Florentino's godfather offer in january for this kid and De Ligt(mostly De Ligt)

De Ligt to replace an aging Ramos and De Jong to Barcelona to pair with Arthur for the new Iniesta/Xavi midfield. Could make for some fun classico's in the future

Spend what ever they want for him and De Ligt. We'd be sorted in two positions for years to come with potential world class talents.

But we're United. Madrid sign De Ligt and we sign an aging Ramos for 100m - The United way.

Pretty much this, it's a shambles at how were run honestly

How would we even line up with FDJ? Barca seem to want him next to Arthur and Busquets. We would put him next to Matic then, not in his place..

Isn't he a CDM? Read a few posts about him before slotting into CB at Ajax. So he would replace Matic.

Also we have a hope in hell of signing him if any top team in Europe wants him. Just ask yourself, why would he choose us over City or Barcelona? Football has a short memory, and in the recent past, we're not really a top honors club.

How many of these youngsters have turned out to be a successful investment?
If we listened to this nonsense we would have a 130m Dembele on the right, A couldn't lace his boots - next Xavi in Thiago as a midfielder, Ascensio shooting from 45 yards out with little else and a Scandanvian kid who we would have sold to Everton already.
All these must have, cream of the next generation seem to be a dime a dozen. Lets wait until next summer when Sancho is the can't fail player to sign that we never go for..

So are you saying he wouldn't be a worthwhile signing?

Surely most teams would take Thiago, Dembele and Acsensio, no? I haven't seen too much of the latter but I'd have Thiago and Dembele at United for sure.

He would play in Fernandinho's position at City. They might ease him in for the first couple of months, but he'd be first name on the teamsheet by the end of the season.

We should offer Ajax £40m plus Matic. Barca were quoted like £45m for him, so surely they'd accept that.
Fernandinho is surely one of the first names on the team sheet. He's the anchor for all they do (or amI muddling him with someone?)

I'd happily take Tanguy Ndombele and Ruben Neves over the summer if Pogba leaves once it becomes apparent that De Jong is either City or Barca bound.

He’s not getting any younger and it’s always best to strengthen before it becomes apparent that your once good player is declining and soon to be over the hill. It’s why they chased Jorginho in the summer.

"Beckenbauer and even Kaka".. eh what?

Anyway Overmars said 3-4 (major) players will leave in the summer "anyway". Disappointed with that I have to say but that surely includes de Jong. Transfers in the winter will be blocked no matter what btw.

I think he has been compared now, among others, to Beckenbauer, Kaka, Iniesta, Busquets, Xavi, Schöne (hi Peter Bosz), Modrić and some guy named Cruyff.

Frenkie is not someone to compare to others, he's like the above players and will be his own type.

Would hate to see him leave after this season, a part of me hopes he stays to learn another year, but a part of me sees him surrounded with the likes of Blind and Schöne who sometimes don't get his moves, and it starts to get time for him to upgrade to Barca or ManCity.

Frenkie pron, just because football is beautiful.

Teams would take them yes but they're not generational talents who we must break the bank for and can carry us for a decade as they're made out to be.

Ziyech, De Ligt, De Jong?

To be fair, they are really talented and too good for the league. Plus the money you can get is hard to reject. Sad nowadays, Ajax could form a great team but have to sell every time

These three and Onana are the four he's talking about I suppose.
The league is weak I agree but the problem with the money is what to do with it. Over the last years we made tons of profit year after year because we sold for a lot and you can't really bring top players to the Eredivisie. In the end you are left with an ever growing amount of money on your bank account which is exactly what happened over the last years.
Though I do think that if sell these 4 in the summer we will buy the stadium from the city so at least this time there could be a use case for all the money.

We need to go in agressively for this lad and pay over the odds to have a chance of landing him. But he's someone we need to make a concerted effort for..

I agree. He is playing for Ajax, it isn't impossible in January even if some like to say so. He'll fit right in too imo.

Said it before but I would much rather go for Ndombele than De Jong and I would love to see him play alongside Pogba.

Signing De Jong (and keeping Pogba) would be a massive step towards being able to go toe-to-toe with City. He’s special.

Hopefully Barcelona being skint and City being fecked by the law would give us a shot at him.

nah - they will do what they want and UEFA will do nothing about it as they are scared if they do then the top clubs will bugger off and form a european super league

whatever happens I expect to see him playing in the champions league next year which at the moment would seem to rule us out

Dont be too sure about that. Ajax has money to burn and really want to win the league since they havent won it in quite some time. The chance that Ajax will make it into the knockout fase of the CL is also realstic which is another reason to not sell one of their best best players. Lastly he has said himself that he isnt going to leave midway during the season. Ofcourse that isnt saying much for a football player these days but he did say it.

According to the rumors Ajax turned down huge bids in the summer so i really dont think they will accept any bids in the winter... maybe if we offer Mbappe kind of money there is a (small) chance but im still pretty sure he will finish this season in Amsterdam and will go to Spain next season.

If City are signing Frankie De Jong then we should be go to them for Gundogan/Foden. No way they'l be able to give adequate playing time to Silva x2, Gundogan, Fernandinho, Foden, De Jong and De Bruyne.

Still think Gundogan can be a top player if give them, he has shown he can play well for City so he'd be a upgrade for most other top 4 teams in midfield.

You'd be surprised. With a team doing as well as they are and playing as good as they are, top players will want to join them/or stay because of the chance of silverware.

He would rather stay another year at Ajax than move to us. I mean we dont have a lot to offer for a player like him. We cant sell a project and money others have too. It is not a good period to join us right now if you are that kind of player he is. Barca and Real in Spain will be all over him and domestically, City and Chelsea are much better suited to his style and look stable for the coming years under Pep and Sarri

De Jong and Ndombele need to be bought in to play alongside Pogba. None of our other mids are good enough for the first team.

This. People actually think players dont watch football? Top players have a huge choice of clubs to play for..i think we'd lose against Liverpool if it was a choice between us or them. That makes me so sad.. we've gone full speed backwards in terms of identity and philosophy.

I think I'd rather try to get Neves from Wolves.
Just seems like a United player to me.

Really like Ndombele but like Pogba he's better suited to play slightly further up the pitch as an 8, not as a 6. A midfield of Pogba , Ndombele and De Jong would work.

We don't necessarily need to go to City to find recruits to come into our team. There's players out there in various leagues who could really enhance our first team but we need someone at the top to have the foresight/vision to implement a footballing identity which is missing.

Until we have the right man in charge at the top, we will carry on being also rans in the league. A DoF is a must, along with a manager who will implement a progressive/adventurous philosophy through out the club.
