French Open 2011

Epic match this.

Sad for Djokovic as I like him a lot, but Federer is just amazing.

Great performance from Federer.

I might just be rooting for him on Sunday. Bloody hell can you imagine if he beats Nadal and Djocker in consecutive games. That too on clay!

Credit to Djokovic. Could have started feeling sorry for himself after the second set but really raised his game and made Federer fight for it.

I did say before the tournament that backing Fed at 14/1 would be a good bet ;)

An even more herculean task for Federer in the final. But I'm just happy he's gotten this far. His ability to still be able to beat the top players has been questioned. And to be honest I haven't seen him play this kind of tennis for ages, particularly what we saw in the first two sets.

Anyways, yaay!

Fitting that one of the greatest brakes one of the best streaks of all time. Felt sorry for Djokovic, he fought hard - nearly took it to 5 sets.

Federer was stunning, back to his best.

Interesting that is is Federer of all people who has stopped the Djokovian streak

He's the only one who could. He's the only one who would stick to his game and attack Djoko unlike the rest who're always on the defensive.

Great performance from Fed today. Now hopefully he rolls over in the final again :)

I think Djokovic's game matches up with Nadal better than Federer's does. On the other hand Federer's game matches up better with Djokovic's than Nadal's does. It's how it works sometimes.

Absolutely. Djoko has become a superior version of Nadal who chases down everything and turns defense to attack brilliantly. Fed however attacks Djoko and he's the player who can play Djoko best.

It'll be interesting to see how Djoko reacts to this defeat now.

What a change of tune from you.

Don't agree with that. One start to a season doesn't make him a 'better version'. It's just that his game is starting to match up well against Nadal. It happens sometimes. Nadal will take winning more grandslams than Djokovic over beating him in head to heads.

And just as it was Nadal who stopped Federer from getting this consecutive wins at Wimbledon, Federer will pull a surprise on Sunday to stop Rafa for just a year from break Borg's record.

I don't think he will personally. Federer hates players that chase down everything and Nadal is the best at that.

Will hope he does though.

He's very similar to Nadal in his play now and has been better than him this season so it would have been exceedingly difficult for Nadal to beat him. Even more so after Djoko beat him in straight sets on clay recently.

Djokovic should have won that last set, and its a shame because if he did he would have taken the final one IMO. The 5 day break did Djokovic no favours either.

Federer was unreal in some parts, and his serve is what won him the match IMO. Was very very solid, but still Djokovic had plenty of chances in the last set to break it.

Djoko has become pretty dam good at defending everything as well now. I think the difference will be how badly Nadal can damage the Fed backhand with the out swinging serve and heavy top spin.

Actually I too think Djokovic would have beaten Nadal had he gotten past Federer. He would have been a different animal against Nadal.

Yup. Sadly Djoko has gotten into Nadal's head now and Nadal just does not know how to play him.

Seriously man, get a grip. Novak is just a man in red hot form who has won a couple of games against Nadal. However, Nadal can still beat him on any given day especially clay. We are still talking about one of the top 2 clay courters of all time and probably one of the greatest tennis players of all time.

Yeah sure Nadal can do it but his mentality is not right. Him saying that he doesn't know what to do vs Djoko shows that. Djoko has beaten him in 4 finals this year so no, I wouldn't exactly be too confident.

rofl @ Fraudjokovic being in "Nadals head" after beating in a few masters that Nadal clearly doesn't care about as much as he used too, just like Federer stop bringing his A-game to them years ago.

Nadal is in Federers head.....and theres a bigger reason to that, Nadal probably doesn't really care about the masters losses.

I think if Djoko had maintained form he would have given Nadal a match at the very least we would have gotten an epic final. Fed played well but in parts he just seemed to lose all sense of play, I think Nadal will smash him if plays like he did today. He's going to have to step it up a few levels..........probably to a level he's never reached before on clay.

I hope Roger can continue his good form to win the title by beating Rafa in 3

ESPN.COM said:
2001 Wimbledon: At 19 years old and in his Centre Court debut, Federer beat Pete Sampras in five sets, snapping the four-time defending champion's 31-match win streak at the All England Club.

2007 Hamburg: Federer ended Rafael Nadal's 81-match clay-court hot streak.

2011 French Open:
Federer ended Novak Djokovic's 41-0 start to 2011 and 43-match overall winning streak.

Those are some streaks breakers enh?

Well a great display from Roger; the king ain't dead yet. I doubt he will beat Nadal but he should gain a lot of confidence from this which will stand him in good stead for Wimbledon where he may just be favourite again or at least joint favourite. I do think Roger has far more variety in his game but he has to have the confidence and exact timing to pull of some of his shots, but he tries for shots that no one else can do. Go Roger Go!!

Sometimes I feel Roger just wants to entertain while winning instead of just winning. He needs a Jose in his corner if he wants to play for the next three years. Pragmatism over romanticism. Serve and volley Nadal's ass to jelly all day. I recently watched highlights of his game vs Sampras; back then he just wanted to win so did what he had to do, played Sampras at this own game.

Four in a row, actually.

Serve and volley wont really work well against Nadal on clay. Nadal can pass you from anywhere on court so Fed will have to be really really good at serve and volley. The match really will depend on how Fed's backhand can handle Nadal's heavy top spins swinging out wide.

Roger against Nadal at Roland Garros is like United vs Barca in CL finals...it just isn't gonna happen for him :(

I don't know about that. Fed rolled back the years in the semis and is capable of it again. That said, Rafa should win in 4 imo.

Will place some small single bet on Federer just to double my money if he manages somehow to surprise Nadal.

Betting? :D

Punter 'Dead Cert Man' lost a £120,000 bet last night when tennis ace Roger Federer surprisingly beat Novak Djokovic.
The 33-year-old mystery gambler had won 26 bets in a row - with big-money wagers on hot favourites.

He had said his bet on Djokovic, who had won 43 matches consecutively, would be his last punt.

But Federer, one of the best players ever and former world No1, ended Dead Cert's dream with his four-set victory in the French Open semi-final. If Djokovic had won, Dead Cert's profits would have hit £227,000. But he is still £41,000 UP after not punting all his winnings.

He always used the same William Hill betting shop in central London and placed his first bet, of £8,400, nine weeks ago. Hills spokesman Graham Sharpe said: "Our anonymous customer has set two world records - the longest winning sequence of bets, and the highest amount gambled on a tennis match.

"But ultimately he went one game too far - rather like his hero Djokovic, who he backed a dozen times. However, he's hardly the Dead Loss Man because he has managed to win £41,000 from us.

"He told staff he hoped to win enough money to buy a house and was going to halt his current betting sequence whatever happened today."

The mystery gambler had also bet on boxing and cage-fighting.

Yeah, I hope he takes confidence from beating Djokovic to Wimbledon. That's important. His chances when on song on grass against anybody are very very good.
