Brazil vs Croatia friendly at Anfield next Sunday. You'd think they'd try to get a deal done before then so they can do the medical/photos etc. But...

Are we getting ahead of ourselves?

... it looks like Sky/Di Marzio jumped the gun earlier.

Have a little think about the semantics of the quip I made instead of getting upset. A lengthy and structured essay isn’t the only way of getting a point across.

So, what's so outlandish about asking if the player we are seemingly signing is any like the players we are looking to replace or not as especially when Jose specifically said "we will be replacing the outgoing midfielders" in Carrick & Fellaini? Or asking about if he is any like another player who is exactly same in height as Mourinho generally didn't prefer to play with one (bar Modric maybe) as a box-to-box and only used them as a destroyer like he did with Makelele and Diarra? What was the supposed "semantics" of the "quip" you made? Please enlighten me.

Oi! Pexbo is RedCaf royalty, like the Pope or Elvis.

The evidence is against you then. Castles is well sourced for sure and still underrated but when Di Marzio goes big on something he’s always correct.

No he isn't. That's complete nonsense - just search the Twitter thread from the last few summers.

You’d find a whole lot more on Castles being wrong than Di Marzio. When he says agreement reached, it’s reached.

My point was that it’s not a set of players with specific attributes that need replacing like for like. Our squad was never a perfect set anyway. It’s not like it is some sort of ideal collection of players who all brought something specific to the table and that all those ingredients must be replaced to maintain this perfect equilibrium we have that is fundamental to this well oiled footballing machine Mourinho is in charge of.

He’s a midfielder and that’s about where it ends in terms of replacing what Carrick and Fellaini brought to the table. He’s got a very different skill set and hopefully the dynamism in his play bring us something we have been missing and raise our game.

This back to when Carrick replaced Keane, taking his shirt and all. They couldn’t have been more different in personality and play style and many said Carrick wasn’t fit to lace his boots let alone wear his shirt. Despite that he slotted into that team in 06/07 and changed our fortunes completely.

So in short, If signed, he won’t be replacing them in one specific way or another. He’s going to be a midfielder that has his own assets to bring, assets that Mourinho has recognised this squad is short of regardless of whether Carrick and Fellaini are off or not.

But yeah, you really should have been able to induce all that from my one line joke.

Castles & di Marzio both seem pretty reliable when it comes to United stories, which is brilliant for us when you consider the amount of absolute horse-shit we have to wade through each summer.

Castle seems to follow Mourinho's narrative more closely whereas Di Marzio, tells it how it is without the fluff.

Not on Fabinho or Matic. Outside of Italy he's not as reliable.

He never claimed we reached an agreement for Fabinho and he never went hard on it.

People seem to be unable to make distinctions within articles and what is interest, bid made, bid accepted, agreement reached etc. Transfers are complex but when Di Marzio says the deal is done, the deal is done.

He seemed confident we were in for him when all along we were doing a deal for Matic, which he had no clue about. You don't like it when other journos put caveats in their claims, so this guy is no different. I don't care how vague he made his claims, he was wrong.

I still don't see Castles as reliable as some make him out to be.
Castles wrote a lot of bs last summer as well. But because people believe that he has always been closely connected to Mourinho/Mendes, it means that he's the most reliable United source. Which going by track record, is far from the truth.

I don't really think he's the closely connected to Mourinho either, looks like more just a Mourinho fanboy to me.

His source would have told him we had an interest in Fabinho, which was probably the case as we’ll always enquire for players we don’t end up signing. It was pretty well documented that we were interested in Fabinho but went with Matic. Di Marzio never once claimed we were close with Fabinho, but I guarantee we had interest in him even if it was never serious.

No other journos gets this sort of leeway. Besides there was never any concrete proof that we were in for Fabinho. Just what he said. The UK journos said no Fabinho but Matic, and early on Di Marzio was going big on the Fabinho story, he softened his stance later on when the UK journos insisted it was Matic and that became obviously correct.

Anyway, not too fussed about which journos anybody wants to listen to. I'll take notice of what he says and put credibility in his knowledge of the Italian market, but the two main deals outside of Italy that we were involved with he was wide of the mark for me.

Shocking journalists can get things wrong! Completely writing off some journalists and taking some as gospel is stupid.

That's very late in the day. UK journos were talking about it before then. Notice how he says Matic "is now favoured". That must be when he backed down on his Fabinho claims.
Doesn't matter, its still days before the transfer was official. Certainly doesn't look like he had "no clue" about the Matic signing.

No one can be correct 100% of the time.

Indeed. And nobody is.

re Fred, if he signs he would absolutely alleviate one of the issues Mourinho was bemoaning earlier in the season - our inability to move the ball quickly in midfield.

Yeah that's absolutely true, but it applies to all journalists. Besides, somebody said before Di Marizo was always right, which started this conversation.

Only watched a couple of games where he played and never really noticed him much. From the highlight videos I've seen he reminds be of Ramires, would I be right in making that comparison?

Has anyone here watched him play regularly?
