Great signing. He's just 25 too so will improve a lot.

I’ve never seen him play but associations like ‘dynamic’ and ‘transitionary’ make him sound very Kleberson’esque..

If we’re only bringing one mid in, would he be everyone’s choice?

Inverted wingers, inverted fullbacks, now inverted midfielders. Cant wait for the inverted strikers and especially for the inverted goalkeeper.

Is it safe to say not one of us have seen enough of him to pass judgement?
Matic plays in the league we analyse to death and a lot of us called that one wrong.

Around 45 million pounds sounds like a good price. And he's not even tall.

It's a bit of a concern yes, particularly if we go for more Brazilians like Sandro and Talisca too. Based on comments of someone like Anderson it can be quite a transition, though in the end plenty of players can perform very well despite not being fully settled in. And like you said, he's done well in Ukraine already. I guess plenty of other European players can fail to settle in too, Davy Klaassen at Everton for example, so there's always a risk.
We will have to break the curse at some point and Jose has a good record with them at Chelsea and elsewhere IIRC. In the end it is about the fit into the team. Fred looks like a hardworker and that gets along well with any manager. We are hardly signing a talented primadona, who may fail miserably due to poor attitude. I am confident about this signing because he seems what we need.

Hopefully we sign him asap as I am not ready for another all summer saga..

I doubt the average player improves a lot from age 25 (though I'm sure examples can be found).

Plus, it's only 4 years from 29 which is almost 30. Borderline, this signing. :nervous:

Brazilian and 25. Sounds good just from that. I'm mostly glad that it looks like we're doing business quickly, because we'll need to to sort the team out.

Don't forget the false box to box inverted quasi left-sided roaming tree midfielder (Fellaini)

So City were rejected rather than opting to look elsewhere?

Don't be daft City never get rejected, clearly he's just a money grabber and City weren't willing to let his greed ruin Peps poetic vision and righteous cause

He'll be dead in 5 years indeed as no footballer has ever played well past 30 but 5 years is fine.

To be fair, they probably rejected the bid because they didn’t want him to go in January(half way through the season).

These 'jokes' arent really funny and as annoying as the posters you guys are parodying.

So why not go back in for him like Mahrez?
Our interest was made public alongside reports saying City pulled out.
Its Utd moving on from Griezmann nonsense

Why is it that no one is worried about Fred being leftfooted? Are we going to play with inverted CMs or what?
I would prefer Pogba to play on the right anyway - if Alexis is bound to play on the left that is. It seems like Alexis and Pogba wants to occupy the same space and when they're both on the left hand side they get in eachother's way. Having Alexis drift central from a starting position on the left, while having Pogba on the right bursting forward would make much more sense in my opinion.

That would also require our right winger to stay wide, though, which is contrary to what José has been doing in the past two seasons. But in order to get the best out of a player like Pogba, who likes to go forward, I think we need at least one winger staying wide so there's space to run into.

Should be confirmed soon.

I hope this will lay to rest all the 'City didn't really want him and they are going for the better Jorginho while United is once again settling for the inferior option' narratives.

Players with natural skills can evolve to a superior level in the correct context. Just look Salah.

Watch Fred against City: in the first 20 minutes he looked un shock with that kind if pressure. Then he managed to adapt to that level and played well, including in attack.

I guess Jose sees him as a possible upgrade on Herrera (who Jose has never seemed to rate that highly, despite utilising him in the big games)

Think they're pulling ya leg, mate...

To be fair no one is saying City didn't want him. The rumours have already been that, City tried in Jan, were told to feck off and decided not to return.

At about 44 million pounds, I am confident Fred will prove to be a really good buy.
I hope we don't spend too much on single players (I don't mind spending a lot on multiple players) this summer yet improve the team enough to challenge for the title.

A left footed CM who’s too old to improve only looked decent against City.

We’ve been hosed boys.

Why is this a concern?
Maybe it's just me, but wouldn't the midfield be too narrow? We don't exactly play rampaging fullbacks either.
Inverted CM's? wtf is this bollocks.

What even is an inverted CM!. What next inverted goalkeepers ? Inverted managers? Inverted shirts?
If we sign Fred, we will probably transistion to a 433, and in a 433, there's two wide midfielders.
With Pogba wide left and Fred wide right, they would be inverted just like your normal inverted FBs and wingers. It's like a 3 at the back system, with the left footed CB on the right and the right footed CB on the left. What's there not to understand?

Because they're centre midfielders. Playing on the right hand side of central midfield doesn't affect a left footer like a left footer playing right wing. An inverted centre midfielder doesn't make any sense.
