I thought he was very poor? Got dominated by lotus cheek multiple times

he’s a player who divides opinion. He does a lot of good stuff, but can’t do so much of the basics a central midfielder should do.

depending on your perspective on him, he gives you enough ammo to reinforce your view whether he’s poor or not.

he’s got the right attitude, but doesn’t have enough quality for me.

Exactly. He is needed right now but his passing is poor. The worst part about his passing is the weight of it he seems to not be able to judge the weight needed or not capable of doing it
Absolutely, if it’s not going five yards sideways, it’s either under hit or over hit. I like him but I feel he’s a player we need an upgrade on sooner rather than later.

One of the best players today. Even though DM isn’t his position He’s actually improving at anticipating danger.

Passing......Didn't think it was that bad. Certainly no worst than Pogs or Bruno who were terrible especially in the first half....

One thing I've been noticing for a while now and was extremely obvious in this match is that the commentators almost never acknowledge anything he does. I counted nine times in the first half where he made the ball carrier lose the ball (sometimes it just ran to another Liverpool player, one time it went out for a throw in, a couple of times it went to one of our players and three times he won it cleanly and we instantly launched some of our most dangerous attacks), yet the commentators only mentioned his name in one of those nine moments. It wasn't even one of the ones he won cleanly. They just don't mention him despite him being quite involved. It's strange.

He had a couple of poor moments on the ball and got dribbled a bit too easily two or three times, but overall he was decent. Once again he's having to do too much himself since McTominay isn't helping all that much, especially for the first 30 minutes.

I've noticed this for ages now. Even tonight with those multiple challenges against those two players down our right wing close to the end, the commentators were talking about the Fulham player, it's like Fred wasnt even there.

Never ever gets any credit from the commentators.

I mean, both of the shots that Bruno took from outside the box in the first half (first one hitting the post, second one going just wide) were from Fred making a good pass through the lines to him. And after the first one he then immediately won the ball and played two quick passes in short succession that put Bruno in space to put in the cross that led to the goal.

Fred's not an amazing passer but he's a lot better than some make out. 'Abysmal' he certainly is not.

Was one of those where he had a decent game but clearly can’t carry the defensive burden in midfield by himself.

Odd performance in that first half I really thought it wasn’t working and then second we awkwardly fumbled our way through.

He gets bypassed in midfield far too often for my liking. He will always need a defensive focused partner next to him vs the better sides.

I think he's done well recently. Maybe he's just a type of midfielder I'm not a big fan of but he feels so chaotic in everything he does. He gets about which is great for disrupting opposition play but I feel like sometimes he's too eager and gets dragged out of position at times.

Every midfielder would need support playing in midfield two, especially considering how high our front 4 stays.

Fred was fine today. Didn't see his passing as a problem, but he did let some players run a bit too easily for my liking.

I’d say no. You’re right that there were a few occasions where he he was bypassed by committing himself too much, but overall he was great and I personally love the little guy for what he offers us!
I like him, he’s had much better games though, just running about doesn’t equal a good game for me, I thought his passing was poor and lotus cheek had him.
If he’s not as strong he needs to find another way, can’t put muscle everybody

Players run past him like he isn’t there. Wins it sometimes and it’s great when he does but he lets players run at our defence far too often.

Yes, he makes mistakes. Yes, he should score more goals. Yes, he sometimes loses concentration.
BUT
His attitude is great, he never stops running, he gives 100%, he wants to win and he fights for the team. Great bloke to have in our shirt and a few others in the squad would do well to put in his level of effort each game.

Can’t understand why he is so divisive....

He isn’t the most creative, and can be a little erratic with his passing in the odd game...

But he is absolutely critical to the way we play... covers every blade of grass... makes interceptions left right and centre, wins the ball high up the pitch.

He is so integral for us in my eyes.

He did well .... rushed some passes he didn't need to and had a tough time towards the end, but I don't blame him for that. Loftus-Cheek had a massive size advantage on him and it showed in the dying minutes

I like him but players dribble past him way too easily and that will always stop him from being considered a top midfielder.

I think you put far too much emphasis on the last ten minutes. For 80 minutes, RLC was quiet and dominated. Then Fred lost a foot race where he didn’t manage to get in front and was out muscled twice, which most players would be.

I'm a Fred fan but no idea why we try to play him as DM. He's not one.

His attributes are energy, pressing and quick short pass and move football. Every attribute for a hard working 8. Not strong or reliable on the ball enough to play as a sole DM.

Big Fred fan but I thought he was pretty poor second half. His high risk pressing left a lot of space for RLC. Not sure his pressing style suits playing with Pogba unfortunately which is a shame as on paper they’re our best CMs.

I think his passing needs sorting out, I equally love his desire to win every ball. But when he doesn’t have a matic or mctom beside him his passing really lets us down.
I know pogba was there but matic and mctom stay closer to him.

also with Bruno who equally turnovers the ball at a high rate it felt like neither team had a midfield

good player but needs the right team, going forward a ball winner with better distribution and Fulham don’t get those chances

Its because some come out and say “he’s integral for us”. I think that praise is way OTT for him. It’s always the way though, there’s very little middle ground. Great or shit! I thought he did ok, not much more.

I like the guy. He may not be flashy but if coupled with a world-class partner(s) he provides great balance.

Also loved that bit at the end when he took 2 or 3 players near their corner flag and still ended up winning a throw in at the end. Like a mad dog.

One man midfield tonight.

It was a collective effort from Pogba and Bruno on the ball but off it in the central areas, it was almost a solo effort from Fred.

Players go past him like he's not there, not sure how you can really work with that in your most defensive midfielder.

I think he had a lot of good moments too, but I think it's about as good as it gets for him here at the minute, and I think we probably can do better.

I like him but players dribble past him way too easily and that will always stop him from being considered a top midfielder.

That's because he's not a DM more of a CM. That's why he offers more in his playmaking than McTominay & Kante.

That added to the times he lost the ball, a few have said in here that he needs someone closer to him otherwise like we saw today, we can’t dominate small teams because we lose the ball in midfield too much.
i do feel it wasn’t all his fault, the team selection did him no favours, but his lack passing for me was a problem today, as well as being disposed in dangerous areas.
Good player, love him in the squad, didn’t enjoy today’s performance

To criticise him for that battle with Loftus cheek is a bit of a stretch. He does all he can do which is make it difficult enough for Loftus that we can get people back and set. Loftus cheek is a mountain of a man who I would imagine even Shaw who is probably the strongest and fastest player we have would struggle to compete with.

I thought Fred does what he does which is get at people, that’s what he is on the team for. Personally I think he isn’t a DM and works better with someone who will either do that job or share the load. Not sure you really get that with Pogba.

If people watch him and think about the game he had great moments. That battle in the corner with Tete and the other guy when they were away to break on us. Getting the ball out from the corner at the end.

Ive seen him better, and it’s not the first time I’ve seen him become a little sloppy towards the end of matches. But I don’t agree that he was dominated by RCL. That was only in the last ten minutes.

Did okay, but got bullied a bit by Loftus-Cheek in the first and last 10. McTominay or Matic should have been introduced sooner to help him.

Weve dominated smaller teams for 12 months now!

We completely dominated the vast majority of the match today though. Indeed I thought it was noticeable that having Fred and Pogba in there together allowed us to dominate them quite a bit more than we normally do. It was only the first 10 minutes and the final 15 that Fulham were in the match at all.
