He was the main reason we didn't get smashed tbh. He broke up their play continually for 90+ minutes. Without him it would have been 1 sides for them.

Theres some truth in that. He was our main ball winner, especially with no AWB

On the ball he was pretty bad other than 1 pass to set Rashford up. Not very successful with his passing and some loose touches that didnt fare well against being pressed

Agree. If it's been agreed that Scott was non existent, that's a lot of work for whoever is left in there.

No quality on the ball today. He moves around a lot though, which is highly needed when McT plays in midfield.

I almost forgot about the bizarre moment he smashed the ball into Bailly's hand when Bailly was telling him passes were on down our left. What was he actually trying to do? He put the ball high in the air towards De Gea, if it wasnt handball was De Gea supposed to head it?

Bit of a see ball chase ball player today. Should have been smarter for the second goal. Lots of needless dumb fouls as well.

Watching the 2nd goal again its clearly his mistake not tracking Perez as he was the man closest and Shaw had won the ball 1 time and was pressing a 2nd time on Justin who he was closest to.

Clearly his mistake.....? That's ridiculous. You have such a Fred agenda.

He puts in so much effort to win the ball back. Thought he was overall our best player

Very pleased Fred is on the squad. He brings high energy to a squad that at times is too casual and needs Fred to bring that energy. A shame he has no quality in the final third.

I think his high energy and freakish interception rate allows him to get away with some wild passes at times. With Bruno already being so high risk % in his pass attempts, it’s a little bit of a problem with how basic our central midfielders are on the ball.

So why is it barely anyone is talking about his poor play in Leicester's 2nd goal, or when he got Bailly booked by skying the ball into his hand and trying to explain what the plan was?

Everyone else gets it in the neck but Fred's mistakes are ignored

Being a Duracell battery means people think he's had a good game, when it was just barely average.

Not sure if serious.
I think he is. I agree with him.
Fred is very good at breaking up play but he does some of the dumbest things imaginable. I would take Leicester’s Tielemanns over Fred any day of the week.

I wish that was the explanation but Ander was also a duracell battery and his mistakes werent ignored, so there must be more to it
I think Fred is just the cult favourite of the current side. Fred has clear flaws in his game, but until we sign some better central midfielders, it’s clear we play better with him than we do without.

C'mon what did he acheive on that pitch today?
Does anyone notice: how many times he put his fellow players under pressure by giving them the ball in very tight situations?
how many times he runs into spaces where he doesn't belong (often chasing the ball) thus leaving the space he should be covering?
how many times he makes the "simple" pass?
Someone tell me what his qualities are, what he's got in his toolbox?? A good engine doesn't count!!

And theres no problem with him being a cult favourite or more popular than the other midfielders. But that shouldnt mean people just ignore when he makes mistakes or talk like he didnt make them. How does being dishonest help the discussion or identify where he can improve? He should be treated the same as any other player and if you want to throw in some nice comments about how hes your favourite and you really liked it when he did this or that, then great. He made good contributions and bad contributions like all the other players

Not a fan of Fred at all but I thought he had a decent game by his standards. Certainly not the standards we should be aspiring to of course.

There's plenty of people talking about him making a mistake on that goal. I think there's not a huge amount being made of it because it was an 'understandable' mistake that still required defenders after that to also do poorly. For similar reasons there's even less people talking about the Bruno mistake in the first goal - he did poorly but others should have done better afterwards.

Good game again. Mostly his fault for the second goal but it really wound me up when Pogba saw what was happening but just didn't bother even trying to cover Perez.

It's all about perception. To me Kante, Herrera and Fred all have very similar strengths and weaknesses, offering very similar things to the team. How one is regarded as one of the best midfielders in the world, one voted as Player of the Season, and one called a cult favorite is still a mystery.

Fred is in the team as a DM. Its a standard DM action to cover the fullbacks. They are the first to do this in a 4-2-3-1, its part of their job. He didnt do his job

Fernandes came deep and made a poor choice, while his correct choices meant we left with a point and him being the best player on the pitch. He's in the team to take risks and make things happened and he did that, with multiple positive to us and 1 negative to us.

It wasnt understandable to chip the ball into Bailly's hand either.

Yes he's got bundles of energy and he'll get plenty of interceptions, but he's utterly brain-dead at times.

He constantly gives away fouls in really dangerous areas, and what the hell was he doing for that Baily handball? Always looks like he's going to get caught out in possession. He'll do for now, we've far bigger issues than central midfield, but we need to be aiming for better than him.

Well put it this way, we largely dominated the midfield with McT being crap and Pogba not exactly being incredible when he came on so him and Bruno must have been doing something.

Today our DMs really did get exposed though. McTominay for the first goal leaving too much room for Barnes and Fred for the 2nd with poor positional play and run tracking, we can also say Bailly couldve been tighter on the 2nd goal

Thought he was fantastic today and my MOTM. Was all over the place, made so many great interceptions and recovery runs.

Why is his passing so shit?

Even when our players are being double defended, Fred will hit the ball to them. I don’t understand the stupidity.

And yet some have won trophies, been our player of the year or been one of the best players in a champions league final and some have done none of those things.

So how can they offer very similar things to the team? Why are some in demand and earn awards and trophies for their performances, while one doesnt?

Its almost like two of them did the job a lot better and were rewarded for it.

I don't understand how the handball can be blamed on him. The pass would have been fine and would have reached De Gea easily had Bailly not had his hand up. With how easy it is to concede handballs this season, you would think it would be drilled into the defence not to raise your hand like that.

Also, Shaw should have dropped off to deal with the Leicester player. Shaw is the one who should be dealing with him in that situation and leave the other guy to Fred. The worst mistake in it all, though, was the centre backs allowing Vardy to step into space all alone. Also, Pogba wasn't exactly doing much, either.

I thought Fred was very good today; one of the best players on the pitch. Five tackles, countless interceptions, should have had an assist. Won the ball in very important areas. Very good display.

It was at Bailly's head height, how is that an okay pass back to your keeper? He'd have needed to chest or head it, hardly a pass a keeper wants to deal with

We know what we get with Fred. Brilliant off the ball work, tackles and interceptions galore - but some passing mistakes and the odd silly decisions also.

im happy to put up with them though for all the good he does in our team, really helps us win the 50/50s in midfield and cleans up off the back 4 so well.

Being a Duracell battery means people think he's had a good game, when it was just barely average.

Being extremely overrated means people think he plays well when he is clearly nowhere near a decent player.

If Fred played for any other team the people here who praise him would be calling him useless and asking does he do anything well?
