What, the Paul Pogba who hasn't got a clue where he is on the pitch most of the time, constantly fannies around getting caught in possession and spraying hollywood balls to everybody other then the intended target, that one?

Yes. That one would find it hard to do worse than 23 passes in 90 minutes. Only Rashford and James had less

PSG away?
No way, in that game we had like 20% of possession, about 3 shots on goal and couldn't get near the ball until the last 10 minutes. No signs of any midfield control, they dominated us and we were insanely lucky. So no, Fred didn't play well then.

Right now our best midfield is probably Pogba-Fred-McTominay trio but can't see any of them in the sitting position in front of defence as a 6 really. That Tonali kid could be handy for our midfield.

Overall a good performance even though he was sloppy in a few instances. People should stop acting as if he has been playing crap for years. His second season in a new league, coinciding with the whole team in shambles and low on confidence, and you can understand why it would take time to fully settle with the team. Ole is right to keep him in the team instead of the hopeless Matic.
Why does this matter? 2nd season is when a new player is usually supposed to flourish, it's not to 'adapt' or 'settle' anymore.

Why is his touch and ball control so bad? If he fixes those issues, he could be a very useful player but it's like watching a 16-17 year old youth player at times.

If we have to hope a 26 year old can fix his touch and ball control to be a half decent player, then we have no hope!

It doesn't matter how many times he passes he had, it's already been pointed out a lot of his best work yesterday was done off the ball.

His best work is always off the ball, it’s in the changing room making tea for everyone. Although the cost of dropped crockery is taking its toll on the OT coffers.

I don’t know what anyone gets out of defending this guy. He’s not cut out to be a footballer in a competitive league.

He hasn't been played enough to get used to PL football, I get the point the poster is making. He simply hasn't been given minutes to become accustomed to PL and its pace - I imagine (hope?) [fantasise?] that as he gets used to how quick the game is he will move the ball on more quickly and be caught in possession less, as well as his decision making improving as he becomes familiar with how his team-mates work and move.

To people who like to pick stats: when looking to a passing stat, you have to break those stats in order to make a better evaluation, otherwise is just a number. That's why seing a player live gives you a whole new perspective. Not saying Fred is a passing wizard because he's clearly subpar on it, but when analyzing the passing stats you should break it into:

- 1st base pass percentage
- 2nd base pass percentage
- 3rd or more base pass percentage
- % of through passes
- % of passes under pressure

With these indicators you can get a better assessment of a player real ability on passing. Because passing accuracy means feck all if the player only makes first or 2nd base passes.

Has anybody here got past 3rd base?

How has anyone decided he is worth 52 mio pounds. One of our worst ever signings, at least Sanchez had some good games but haven't seen that with Fred.

He's most certainly had as many good games as Sanchez did

Fred had highest pass conversion rate with 91,3% of the United players. He was 1 out of 3 players running more than 11 Km.

He had control over TAA and the Liverpool midfield with Pereira and Mctominay (who was the other two running over 11 Km this game).

I think he had a good game and just needs to get some confidence. People hating on Fred i have a question. So who would you start instead of Fred? Matic? :wenger:

I don't think it's the speed he moves the ball at now so much as when he passes it straight to the opposition. He was decent defensively and shielded the ball reasonably well, I'm just baffled that a Brazilian DM can feck up even the simple passes. Still, he battled well yesterday, showed that he's at least squad player material but only if he can keep that sort of performance up.

91% of the third least passes in the team behind 2 of our 3 forwards. Andreas made more passes.

David De Gea made more passes...

Thought he played well today. It was a similar game to PSG and maybe he’s better in games where it’s bums to the wall. Played well though hope it continues
How you can say he played well is beyond me. Just because he made a few interceptions doesn’t mean he played well. The boy can’t pass a football and him and Scott were the reason we were pegged back for the 2nd half

He's already decided, logic and facts wont shift him

What are 1st, 2nd, and 3rd base passes?

If he's losing the ball by being creative, that's fine. If he's not being creative but is very assured and metronomic with his control and passing, that's fine.

It's when he's not being creative and yet not assured on the ball, that's when there's a problem. Hopefully, he can find his area of expertise quickly, we need all the help in CM we can get.

Pereira had only 4 passes more. Not sure what you're trying to show with these stats. Based on this image i'd rather have Fred with 23 passes and 91% PA than Pereira with 27 passes but only 63% PA.

Pereira created our most chances and won the ball the most. He was playing RW

But he got on the ball more than our CM, who barely got on the ball. Everyone did except Rashford and James who were chasing after long balls. Its pretty obvious

If anything, these stats aren’t a stick to beat Fred with, the lack of passing accuracy apart from him and Maguire is truly appalling.

What are 1st, 2nd, and 3rd base passes?

1st base is the pass to the next team mate without any opposition player or own team player in between
2nd base is pass to the 2nd next team player, having either a team player or opposition player between the passing line.
3rd and above are for confident accurate passers: the ball has to travel through at least 2 players before reaching the target.

Usually any football player should be comfortable by doing 1st and 2nd base passes in almost any conditions.

What you were just told. He's a CM who got on the ball less than our RW and goalkeeper. If you still dont get it, you're not going to get it

Maybe if he got on the ball a tiny bit he wouldnt have high accuracy with his passing. Its easy to be accurate when you barely did anything
