Baffled by how poor his first touch can be given he's a Brazilian international. It's a real pity because when he has the ball under control he's not awful. But teams know to press him and we'll concede chances because of it.

Still, he's getting better, so that's something. If Garner was a year older not sure how often we'd see him tbh.

I like fred and the witch hunt by Neville made him a target for united fans because he kept going on about the price tag......

Judging his performances as a whole though, he hasnt been a success.

The basics of his game just look terrible. His passing, first touch, shooting are not what you would expect in a central midfielder who isn't renowned for their physical prowess. We all know he isn't a Matic, Fellaini, Kante, NDombele, Wijnaldum, Fernandinho.

I dont expect him to run the midfield but I expect his touch, passing, and decision making to be spot on because if not then he is simply not good enough for us.

It’s not a witch hunt by Neville - who I think mentioned something about Fred last week? It’s been clear for over a year how poor Fred is, pointless and untrue dig at Neville.

People complaining about Fred's passing when his accuracy was 92% today...

2nd highest of our starting XI was Maguire with 81%. Everyone else was less than 70%.

He was basically the only player on our team who passed the ball well.
That's for people who actually resort to stats and barely pay attention to the game and what is going on. So many of his passes were erratic and misplaced but saved by the receiving player, therefor slowing the game down and disrupting the flow. He's absolutely woeful player, he will run with the ball next to a teammate just to pass it from 1m.

I know it is amazing how many think that way. Just watched Mark Goldbridge on the United stand who thought the midfield was awesome, & that Fred & McTominay deserved 8's. With Young the worst player. Must have been looking at a different match to me.
They were our two worst player, except Rojo, Goldbridge is clueless.

Fred had 2 chances to score, and he wasn't too far off considering his confidence. If only he'd connected sweetly with one of them. Would have been funniest thing to happen at Utd, since the time we turned up with a reserve team and stuffed Liverpool with 2 Diego Forlan goals.
Suddenly Fred's cost would have looked like a bargain if that had gone in, even if he never played another game for us.

I paid attention to the game. I thought Fred's passing was fine. The facts support me on this. His teammates were more guilty of erratic and misplaced passing than he was which is why they all lost possession more than he did.

Think he was better then usual. He did the same mistakes that he always does (lingering on the ball, poor touch, inaccurate simple passes) but he did it far less than we're used to from him.

Reckon he can get better with more play time and more confidence gained.

Don't get me wrong but I can't understand how can anyone credit that performance, never mind his passing. Passes 1m behind the receiver disrupting the flow of the game, simple pass to the CB instead of passing it to the ground he lofts a pass stupidly putting I think it was Lindelof into an awkward situation, running to Young just to pass it from 1m. He was also caught with the ball at his feet dangerously, hit a pass into MCT head I think it was. He's a walking parody. Apart from 2-3 good interceptions, that were also chaotic as feck, he was appalling.

Problem with Fred, other than his inconsistency, is his tendency to get pressed in dangerous areas and give the ball away. He's not very press resistant and it has cost us a few times and nearly did today.

Yup, this looks like a clear problem for me. He's not assured enough on the ball and cannot really deal with the press. He's working hard and putting in the effort, but ultimately the problem is that he just doesn't have the skills on the ball to be a top CM.

I also get the impression that both he and the coaching staff haven't quite figured out what his exact role is in this team.

I don't think he played well. I gave him a 5 in the ratings, which is an average performance, and was the joint lowest rating I gave out.

His passing, as I said, was fine. I'm not pretending it was a masterclass. He mostly kept it simple and passed to a near team mate. Generally I like Fred a lot more when the opposition have it than when we have it because I know he is not a very talented player and I don't have expectations of him creating chances or dictating the game. His best qualities are defensive. I do object though to people claiming his passing was a big issue against Liverpool, especially when they resort to exaggerating the number of times he lost possession or ignore the context that everyone of his teammates gave it away more than he did. That's the extent of my defence of Fred.

I thought he did okay. There’s a decent player in there but I don’t think we will see it in time

Poor starts in your Utd career, the CAF is unforgiving and it's very hard to change people's opinions.....

The unnecessary crossfield long ball where he lost possession despite the intended target being in loads of space could easily lead to conceding. This is top level football and moments like that can be the deciding factor. Unforgivable stuff for me.

This was the only game where he's looked anything like alright and still wasn't exactly good, other than getting stuck in. He'll have to do a hell of a lot more to change people's well justified opinions. He's playing at what's meant to be the elite level and will be rightfully judged as so.

I thought his pressing was excellent. Not just the willingness and the energy, but the timing as well. He played within himself (nothing creative, basically) and made some key tackles (and fouls).

The problem with Fred is one that is pretty similar to our team as a whole - as soon as the onus is on us to break a team down, his lack of technical ability and execution comes into play. He doesn't have the ability to play in tight spaces, his first touch is abysmal and he telegraphs absolutely everything he does (which comes to life when there are more bodies around to read the pass).

If he can turn that type of performance in away from home and against good opposition all the time, we could do a lot worse than him. Unfortunately, he will likely follow that performance up with an error strewn performance in Norwich next week.

The games about opinions I guess and for me he played well yesterday and was more than instrumental in the result. Fred is now that player that after 17 starts in his Utd career, will only focus on the bad and ignore or minimise anything that's good. Sad really

I thought he was alright off the ball yesterday... got about the pitch a bit etc... but jesus, his decision making on the ball is invariably rubbish.

Yeah that was weird because he hit it with his right foot as well.

I still think he's the best passer in the team after Pogba. Mostly because the others are shocking

The quality or lack of it in passing does not only depend of the completion rate in order to be rated as fine. He is a CM, and his passing was shit. As I previously pointed out, much of the shit passes he did, were completed yet they were shambolic, with no regard of the receiving player, and some of them brainless. Maybe by his shocking standard he was not that bad, but he was pretty shit regardless. His best qualities are defensive, yet his defensive instincts are shambolic.

Nothing personal but unless you watched the match on a radio you are a friggin idiot.

Nope, just a realist, and for your information, I watched it from an excellent position in the South Stand. Fred should not be anywhere near a Manchester United shirt. Fred wouldn't even make it in the championship.

Once he leaves United, you will not hear about this lad again.

We are not a great passing team, but I’d put every one of our midfielders ahead of Fred in this regard.

Dross might be slightly harsh but he was clearly the odd one out of the midfield and attack yesterday. Everyone else played well, he didnt. In fact you could argue he was the worst performance yesterday

I thought he did ok overall. Just a few moments when he looked awful but would recover almost immediately. Certainly one of his best PL performances for us (most of his best games have been in the CL) given the standard of the opposition.

He was running like a headless chicken and was the second worst player on the pitch behind Origi.
How could someone see something positive about his performance?

Apologies, I shouldn't have said friggin idiot, clueless would have done.

I know Brazil aren't what they used to be, but are you suggesting a recent International wouldn't make it in the championship?

And I watched if from a much more excellent position than you(in the North stand)and he did just fine.

Its astonishing. I thought they play on beaches with deflated balls that improve your touch. Clearly Fred was developed playing with beach balls on a mountain, wearing wellies

It's harsh to criticise anybody after yesterday, to a man they all worked their tripe off, and the three in midfield considering their lack of experience at that level didn't let United down, the two players that Mourinho signed at some expense to control games from midfield Pogba and Matic wouldn't have fared better, in fact they would probably have got over-run.

Well Matic is awful, but it would be hard for Pogba to do worse than Fred

Why is his touch and ball control so bad? If he fixes those issues, he could be a very useful player but it's like watching a 16-17 year old youth player at times.

He's like a Rojo but in the midfield. He gets alot of credit for his combative nature but is far too inconsistent on the ball. For some reason he forgot how to do cross field passes yesterday whereas his younger compatriot Pereira did them with ease. And there was one point when we were breaking quickly on the counter, Rashford passed him the ball and he freaked out, ended up taking 3 touches to control it.

Thought he was one of our best yesterday. A lot of his worl off the ball hasn't been recognized, but he was a big part of Liverpool almost creating nothing.

Never stopped closing down passing opportunities after we went 1-0 up - him and McTominay controlled a lot defensively. A lot of people will probably call me stuff, but Fred was close to MotM for me.

We need his energy at the moment. We'll just hope he remembers how to play football again soon. He was effective yesterday, even allowing for the comedy errors.
