His ball recovering is his best ability but he can't defend. If we are playing with Pogba and Bruno it would be easy for the opponent to get through with him as the 3rd midfielder

That's exactly what I am thinking, and wonder what he brings to the side when we would like to play with both Bruno and Pogba? Fred works his guts off and I appreciate him for that, but we need better.

Played like he didn't train at all for 3 months. Terrible on the ball and without it.
When we play better sides and our gameplan is to just counter Fred excels. He can just rat around midfield. When he needs to take the ball and use it, like today, he looks dreadful. We have too many players who will take the ball, look up, pause, then go for a simple pass sideways or backwards. That's Fred. Unless there's tons of space in behind he won't even try to advance the ball. Useless against two banks of four.
I thought he was decent - covered a lot of ground and put in a wonderful ball for Bruno.

Look lads I have said this before on numerous occasions and will say it again just for the people who do not seem to appreciate a good footballer wearing the red shirt from a bad one.
Fred is simply not good enough to be playing central midfield for Manchester United Football Club,it is as simple as that.He has no pace,he can't go past a man or dribble and lets be honest that is what the vast majority of Brazilian players can do ! his passing is bang average at best,the number of times he gives away possession in the course of 90 minutes is terrible,his sense of danger and what I call,being football aware is abysmal and his goal ratio is dreadful,he simply does not score goals or in my humble opinion ever look like doing so either.I am very very very surprised that he continues to get his game and the manager and coaching staff are at fault for picking him and thinking he can still do the job up to the standard required for us to push on as a team and finally and hopefully get back into the top 4 at least,of the Premiership

He was so bad again in the first half but did step it up in the second. Hopefully he kicks on to pre lockdown Fred level again from there.
Been saying this all along. Unbelievable the praise which has been heaped upon such a mediocre player. Brings zero to the table and zero creativity! Con merchant!
Can function in matches where we are the ones not controlling the game. Same goes for McT. In games against EPL teams that sit deep, neither are good or efficient enough on the ball and in their passing to be useful.
So when they are filling in for PP, Bruno or Matic next season, usually in matches against weaker teams, playing both at the same time would be very problematic.

My biggest gripe is he never gets his foot in or go in for a tackle. He looks scared. You're playing for Manchester United get stuck in.
I feel like he can play well if we play a DM with him. Let's not forget how well we played with Bruno Fred and Matic trio. He needs to play as an 8. He's a good passer of the ball and he probably has a good shot in him to be taking some of our freekicks.

Fred may not be world class but he’s more than good enough to be in the squad based on the form prior to the lockdown. Now the challenge is for him to show consistency when he is given the opportunity.

You also say he needs to be given that challenge to show his consistency.come on now mate,he has been given every opportunity since we signed him in June 2018,I think it was.He must have played 50 odd games for us and I can honestly count on one hand the number of times he has played well or actually contributed something worthwhile to the team.He is a Brazilian footballer who cannot dribble or beat a man,that alone should see him thrown out of the team altogether,an extremely limited individual who would not get a game for any progressive top 4 club in most football nations

If you cannot seriously make out the significant improvement Fred made this year compared to his first year at United, then I really have to question how the hell you got promoted. He's been available to the squad the entire year and put in good to very good performances before the suspension of the league. He best played with Matic as a free roaming 8. He was one of the first player selected for much of the year, but now that Matic, Pogba, and Bruno are all fit and in form or playing their way into top form, it's right that Fred is benched.
Who cares what nationality he is, you're stereotyping him from the looks of it. Fred has put in tremendous work with Carrick and the other coaches to be a valuable contributor this season and looks to have finally settled down in England and at the club. He'll now get to compete with other center midfielders but he's earned and deserves his spot in the squad.

It’d never happen but I think Fred would be a good left back actually.
Fred is a very good player and it gives me so much confidence seeing that lineup and knowing that he can come on with all his energy in the second half.

Fred was my player of the season before the lockdown. Certainly our most improved and consistent player. Yes he hasn’t quite been at it since we came back and he probably isn’t going to start as many games anymore but there’s no shame in not being as good as Pogba or Bruno.

We've got our midfield sorted now. Bruno: Pogba :Matic in a 3 man formation. McT ready to come in off the bench or start in a 4-man MF. Maybe we need to strengthen and bring somone in (not Grealish God forbid). The players named are all class so why the feck should we ruin that by putting a headless chicken in there. Fred should be nowhere near starting games for us. End of!

Fred is the headless chicken btw. You my friend are so far off if you compare Fred with McT. For the record Grealish is a decent player but would be too much of a risk bringing him to the club imho.
Arguably one of the POTS candidates imo, i find it a bit weird that he didn't get a chance to come off the bench last night, especially since B&HA were getting momentum and he sure as hell is a better option to have than Pereira in those moments.
