Doesn't matter if he is AWOL or not. Why does he need another holiday? He hasn't even played since last season and already missed pre season.

I’d agree, which is why I’d imagine there is more logic to it than appears, as I can’t see the club wishing to authorise it otherwise.

He shows promise for an hour every 3 months. And he's like 26 or something. All in all, he was absolutely woeful in his first season. Fans are right to be worried about him/the signing.

Massive exaggeration. His season was no worse than many players of his background in their debut PL season who later went on to become useful. He had many good games last season.

With you up until this. He's been completely ineffective so far and at 50m looks like a huge waste of money.

His transfer is up there with Bebe levels of weirdness for me.

He hasn’t been ‘completely ineffective’, he’s shown at times why we might have paid big money for him.

I’m not in denial claiming he had a great season, what I am saying is that he’s got time, and shown the talent to suggest he may come good. I always expected an adaptation period from him. Naby Keita has been worse in my opinion, not that it’s a competition between the two of course.

Presumably there are two ' Freds ' in the EPL and you and I are watching different ones.

Fred is like a worse and more expensive Mkhitaryan. It's unbelievable how our club has literally wasted hundreds of millions of pounds on players that lose more than half of their value after a single mediocre season.

He was terrible. He had a couple of games where he was good and some others where he looked a talent but on the whole when it came to actual peformances he was terrible. And if somebody else was terrible only to go to be a success it doesn't change the fact that they were terrible.

Like I've said many times before, Fred is the sort of player who based on his good moments looks a player. But the package last season was so badly put together, you'd think he was some 17 year old talent whose showing glimpses and just needs time despite being 26.

Hopefully he comes good. I've always said he has some interesting qualities. But the peformances the qualities have put together have been very poor.

I can count the number of good games he’s had on the fingers on my left hand - and multiple that number by 2 and still have a finger left.

City are obviously very clever at ‘identifying’ players that are clearly crap, and watching us bounce in and pick them up. Worked for both Fred and Sanchez. City Exec’s are laughing at these two transfers we made!

That's a bit over the top, don't you think?

I guess it sounds a bit OTT but at £7m Bebe was a bit of a punt (or agent bribe dependent on who you ask).

£50m for Fred seems like a calculated move so it's more than a bit surprising how in and out of the team he's been. I guess Anderson is a better comparison, but even he had a run of form during his first two seasons - not to mention becoming the best unofficial club mascot we've ever had

I'm not saying Bebe is a better footballer than Fred though, just considering the relative costs.

Yeah that's fair enough. Would be foolish to write him off. See what happens this season.

Well said.

Genuinely think he’s been the biggest waste of £££ we’ve had.

Lukaku we recouped a lot of the fee. Same with Di Maria. Sanchez had stupid wages but at least we didn’t have to pay a transfer fee.

He’s never going to make it here. Mind boggling that some seem to think he’s the answer.

If he actually get's a run of games you will eat your words. It's unbelievable how so many think he's an awful player with such little evidence for it.

Yeah there's very little evidence of me being a shit player too, I can do whatever he does for half his wages, deal?

So far, he hasn't got a run of games because his managers haven't deemed him good enough in training.

If you played football on television as Fred does, there would be plenty of evidence you're shit!

Anyone else have the feeling he was a marketing purchase. No Brazilian stars in the prem league so Ed wants to corner the market and get some interest from Brazil. Might have paid off if he was any good, but the ukrainian league not quite at prem league level.... Mourinho wouldnt play him and Ole doesnt have confidence in him either.
I wonder if Mourinho would have vetoed him if he’d known he wasnt going to get the defenders or RW he wanted? Gone into self destruct mode earlier.

That would make sense if he had any brazilian following. He's virtually an unknown there

No he was just a crappy purchase. That's all there is to it really. Clubs make crappy purchases all the time. Fred to United is reminiscent of Andre Gomes to Barcelona.

I repeat:

Fred will never play for United again!!! Some reason may emerge one day but I doubt it, he is quite a waste of money...

Really was a weird signing, especially for big money. Alexis I got at the time, just his world class form fell off a cliff, but Fred why was he signed.

Just looked up Mourinho’s quote when he signed:
“ We think having a player like Fred in the squad - who is more techical - can maybe connect with the attackers.”
Hardly the super positive comment you'd expect for a 50m signing. A squad player who maybe could connect to the strikers?
Insane waste of money who was never going to be a starter.

The fact this guy has had 2 holidays away in short succession is more than poor judgement. He put our manager in a tough spot too lacking options.

Playing for a club like United should be about sacrifice. It should be the price paid for our higher wages. It’s a fair trade.

A lot of CEO’s barely ever take holidays, they are real men/women you can rely on with real passion and drive. Some footballers have it. Fred is just here for the ride though, we should never count on him.

And yet the evidence he’s crap outweighs the evidence that he’s a competent footballer at a ratio of at least 100:1.

We would all love Fred to show us he’s a decent footballer and worthy of us blowing £52m on him - however, let’s be honest if he can’t get into this midfield, and not even got on the bench thus far, then it’s very unlikely to happen.

Given he can’t even get a seat on the bus, suggests he’s been very poor on the training pitch.

This is an absolute shitshow of a Man United side, and he still cant get anywhere near it. I think it goes beyond "he'll get his chance." If he cant get his chance now, he must be the drizzling shits.

Man Utd 1:0 Leicester
Good cameo today. Think he'll get more chances from now on.

Looked lively

Start him on Thursday he needs the match fitness

Thought he was excellent tbh. Been saying it but stylistically, he should start next to McTominay with Pogba as the 10. Only chance to balance our midfield. Last season was never his true level, hopefully he can find it this year as there is a quality player there and he showed good stuff today.

Should be ahead of Matic and possibly Scott as well. Looked energetic and made some good interceptions.

Looked better than Matic but that's not much of an achievement. Hope we keep faith in him and give him games to get him match fit.

We are a better team with him on the pitch. As I've been saying the whole way through this thread, the criticism he has received is unwarranted. A midfield 3 of Fred, Mctominay and Pogba wouldn't be half bad!

He did ok.

When he came on, McTominay pushed higher up and Fred dropped deep. But then Fred got caught out of position a couple of times, so Ole brought on Tuanzebe to play as the holding midfielder instead.

I'm still struggling to figure out what role he should have in our midfield. He has some quality, but also a few glaring weaknesses.

He's not a DM, hes a box to box midfielder but if he and Mctominay can form a partnership and play behind Pogba in a 3 man midfield it could work very well IMO.

Fred is a similar player to Herrera in many ways and a good replacement for him.

I'm just relieved he's at least an option now

Did alright when he came on

Fred was miles better than Matic today. Not that great an achievement, yet a clear fact that he deserves to at least be ahead of Matic in the pecking order, for sure

Surprisingly, from my perspective, he actually made a really positive difference. Our use of the ball in midfield visibly improved. I admit, given how crap it was before his introduction, that's not saying too much. However, it was a pleasant surprise to see Fred a) not totally left behind by the pace of a Premier League game; b) improve us. Fingers crossed he shows me up for writing him off by kicking on from his average (at best) first season.

No he didn't. He brought on Tuanzebe to see out the game.

It's a shame it took injuries and awful performances from other midfielders for him to become an option, he could be a very good player for us.
