Maybe Roman is being proactive. Arsenal won't be keeping Arteta for long and will need a replacement too
 
How anyone is going to implement their playing style if they get sacked the moment results don't go their way? Roman is most trigger happy owner out there.

It would finally be 3 and a half years, one of which is optional.
 
Wonder if the Tuchel situation was behind recent talk of a summer move for Haaland.

I guess he has “earned“ to be ruthless after having spent so much of his own money in the club.
 
I wanted him to stay there for as long as possible. One less club competing near the top to trouble us. This has been coming for a while now. It’s simply not been good enough. You’re supposed to show progress as the seasons go by. You can’t spend that amount of money and then go backwards the season after.

And as always, I’m of the view that sentimentality has no place in football, and Lampard as a manager shouldn’t have been viewed any differently to Rafa or AVB, and evidently Roman felt the same way.

I am interested to see Tuchel in the PL. I’ve always heard good things about him but the only times I ever actually watched his teams were PSG in the CL.
 
Let’s be honest, Frank is a terrible manager and the fact he has the worst record since Roman took over just hammers that home.

Football fans are heavily influenced by the narrative pushed by the media. Frank did at best an OK job at Derby County. I followed this closely because my best mate is a DCFC ST holder. They had a fantastic team that year, spent tonnes of cash of transfers and wages and Frank’s connections enabled them to loan PL quality youngsters such as Tomori, Mason Mount and Harry Wilson. You can’t really criticise a manager for losing a play-off final but I certainly don’t think it was an “achievement” either, I’d say finishing in the top six was bare minimum target.

Then we had this narrative that he somehow had his hands tied because of the transfer ban at Chelsea in his first season. OK, that’s not a positive by any stretch. They lost Hazard but had bought in Pulisic, so effectively they had lost one and gained one - albeit not the same level, admittedly.

I could understand therefore, why Frank wasn’t expected to challenge seriously for the title, but to say that scraping 4th was some big achievement was ludicrous. They had probably the best-stocked squad in the PL. They arguably had three international players in every position. The midfield options alone where ludicrous. Compare that with Ole who got 100+ PL games from Dan James, Pereira, Juan Mata, Brandon Williams, Odion Ighalo, Ashley Young, Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo...AND managed to finish 3rd...it really was a ridiculous narrative.

Again, I wouldn’t advocate sacking Frank for finishing 4th but it had to be considered par really.

Going into this season, £250m spent and they have actually gotten even worse. No plan for how to integrate these players. They all look like vanity hipster signings. Did they really extensively scout Werner, Chilwell and Havertz or did they just think “these lads will do”?

Let’s be under no illusions. Frank did a poor job and has been deservedly been sacked
 
Seeing as it's Chelsea I'm actually surprised it took this long.

I hope that they don't get the classic new manager bounce.

Ole has, in one way or another, showed continuous growth and improvement as time has gone by, even if there have been some stumbling blocks, by and large it’s been a general forward direction. Lampard, after last season, has been going backwards, and Arteta similarly, barring the FA cup win and a somewhat promising start last season has also been going backwards.

Not the same situation as Ole.
 
A large portion of the media will have their knives sharpened for Tuchel from minute one. A foreign manager replacing well-liked, English Lampard won't sit well with many of them.

Why does all this "stabily" stuff always have to relate to the managers? We've had stability with our ownership and core of players, there's more than one way to skin a cat.

People will always like to compare how many managers we've had compared to United and Arsenal, but never mention the fact both clubs have thrown their captains armband around like confetti in the same period we've only had three club captains (the first of which for 13 years).

While I agree somewhat, getting 6 new players into a team at once is a near impossible task, especially when you have so many players in those positions already. Per the athletic article , many of them werent even his targets.

We have trouble getting only one new player integrated .
 
Watching the game yesterday it was obvious we have major problems behind the scenes in the dressing room... Guess our ownership was watching as well...
 
Very classy of Romano to applaud the news of someone losing their job. All for likes and retweets they don't give a shit, leaves a sour taste.

The media are going to give Tuchel an extremely hard time. You can see it coming from a mile away. Woe be to the successor of a manager that was a well liked English player.
 
To be fair the signings he made were not bad at all. If it was us making those signings i'd be expecting a Copa America trophy.

Their squad problem is far deeper than just manager. They assembled random 'good' players without thinking best 15/16. Lampard is not a good manager, but this mess going to be a tough task for any manager to unravel.

No idea why they signed Thiago Silva when they had someone like Tomori developing. Spent a lot of money on Ben Chilwell when it wasn't actually the first area of improvement they needed. They signed Havertz but don't seem to figure out where to play him. Think Werner has done ok. Pulisic and Ziyech have been in and out and the GK situation has been a fiasco. No idea why he has the obsession with Mason Mount as well.
 
Thats harsh on Lampard. Asked for 18 months for a commanding CB and kept getting given young attacking midfielders.

Guess it will be a german coach because of the investment in Havertz and Wener, tuchel maybe?
 
Didn't think they would act so soon, but it obvious he is out of his depth with that team.

Is Tuchel that good a coach? He wasn't a success at Dortmund and the PSG job was like shooting fish in a barrel with a rocket launcher. I can see this going the way of Emery at Arsenal - with any luck of course.

No Frank was just a crap manager and was lucky to get the job in the first place. He had a go.. but it was always going to end this way. Let him go earn his stripes rightfully or he could always go back in the BT studio. Up to him.

Players were deliberately not passing to Mount at times when he was in the best position IMO, posted in the match thread yesterday. Could see the look on the face of Ziyech when he came off, like at a funeral. Havertz has been like that for weeks, playing is like funeral for him.

Lampard lost most of the dressing room because it wasn't seen as a meritocracy by a lot of the players.

That is why he's been sacked imo. No way back from that.
 
I’ve always admired that Roman will pay up his managers when it isn’t working & will try something different. Chelsea don’t generally go long between winning things despite movement at managerial level.

Once Tuchel became available Lampard had to pick up better results which he didn’t; he more than any manager they’ll have will know how that club operates - it’s a difficult job for him to turn down but he knew he was out of results weren’t impeccable.

It still feels really harsh to me, but I also said in the summer that if there is even a slight danger of missing out on top 4, Chelsea wouldn't just stand by and do nothing.

With no world class stars I think he will be alright in implementing his style. Will be interesting as his football for PSG was trash compared to that at Dortmund. So we will really see what he is about.

I didn’t watch the game but the point you raise re: Mount - do you see him at Chelsea long term now Lampard has gone?
