Frank Lampard to NYC FC

Is this some unusual FFP dodge, but with old players... Nope, that doesn't make any sense either.

Isn't the start of the new MLS season ages away? Could just be to fill their home-grown quota and for Lampard to stay fit?

Some sort of FFP/Homegrown players rule dodge in my opinion..

Still City will get another option and if they start him with Lampard guarantees a few goals..
It's not a dodge. If he weren't going, they'd have one fewer player. 8 homegrown players. If they can't fill that quota, their squad shrinks down to 24 if they have 7, 23 if they have 6 etc. No point adding a player to the squad to fill a quota if he isn't going to be used.

We should loan Fellaini to the Miami Dolphins, he wouldnt even need to wear a helmet, just elbow people

It's only until the MLS season starts, which makes sense; Villa has done the same with Melbourne City. The fact that it's allowed is very interesting for future FFP issues though, obviously lampard is an insignificant signing, but what's stops City doing it with big money signings?

I'd be pretty pissed off if I were a Chelsea fan. Odd move.
why? he has earnt the respect with most Chelsea fans to do whatever he wants.
its only drama queens, mummys boys and know nuffink nonces that will be upset

Yes it is pal.. Whatever way you look at they have added an extra player purely on the basis of his nationality. City will be obviously on four fronts and that extra player could make a difference..

For example if they want an extra midfielder in the squad, then they can't sign a foreigner because of the rules but with Lampard they bypass it.

Who does Lamps knock out of the staring XI though? Not sure how much playing time he'll get.

he is going there to help out on two fronts...first of all for personal fitness as MLS for him does not start until next year and secondly as standby player and experience around the training ground and dressing room.

How is that a dodge then? Their just bolstering the squad. Dodge implies that they are being sneaky, going around the rules.

If you don't know why then I don't imagine it would do any good explaining it to you.

He's one of the last few players who have stuck with a team for so long. Why is he going to City at all? Is he desperate to play in the PL? I wouldn't imagine so or he wouldn't have signed on to play in America. What's the point? What's the difference now between him and any other player at City? They are there to get paid good money and win titles. That's it. No club loyalty. It's steadily going away in football and I would have expected better from a person like Lampard. I still do. There's nothing been confirmed yet.

You wouldn't be bothered if Giggs played this season for Arsenal?

You are talking ...no..lets rephrase that..speculating out of your 'arris.
Frank Lampard has signed for a Man City run team in USA. He needs to keep fit and possibly match fit before the new season starts next year.
And most Chelsea supporters (of which I am one) just wish him well in whatever he does. There is no problem here.
Too me, he is acting highly professional by wanting to keep his fitness up and train at the highest level with a top club. If he gets game time then its a bonus
Also, on a personal level for him it means he and Miss Bleakley can hang around in Uk a bit longer and be with his kids.

Would Chelsea fans be annoyed by this?

Erm I would feel a little wierd about it, not so much annoyed, if it were say West Ham I would accept it more.

Just feels a little odd to me.

West Ham...you're havin a giraffe !!
Poor example after the treatment they gave him

So in the unlikely circumstance that he does see some significant game time and scores some goals that help Chelsea's title rival win points that may prove vital in the end, Chelsea fans will be okay with that?

I wouldn't be.

No problem at all.

Thats like saying if Ashley Cole with his Roma team knock Chelsea out of Europe.....or when Ronaldo with Real knocked Utd out.

Same applies to every big team. Players follow money and success. Don't trick yourself into thinking United's players are any different.

havent Watford and Udinese been up to the same thing for a few years now, in a different kind of way though, I can see this happening alot more in Football, Billionaires owning other clubs in other continents and loaning players between them during the off season

No reason why they would be. They have an affinity with him, but it's not like he was homegrown. He came to Chelsea on record money, did a job and was released.

The whole feeder club business is getting out of hand.
