Frank Lampard to NYC FC

You being American doesn't mean anything.
Nearly ever American I've ever know or met prefers baseball over cricket. Most don't even have a clue how cricket works. I've been subjected to it extensively while living out here and have a decent understanding that I am never facing the opener of the ball ever. 90+mph with an advantage to hurt me = no thanks.

It means a lot. I grew up playing baseball, football and basketball. But I never really got into baseball.

Basically every baseball pitcher throws over 90 mph. The top ones throw over 100.
Into a square about 3 feet away from you at slogging height.

Anyway ENOUGH.... I'm changing the topic to ice hockey, now the reflexes and the eyes on those goalies.. Definitely superior.

I don't care or know much about cricket, however, I don't really think it's easy to say which is more difficult without trying/having tried both, or having been involved in both. Baseball is quite boring but being from the US, I was immersed into it from an early age and played frequently (even had pro tryouts with Cleveland and Kansas City in the hopes of getting a minor league contract). I've tried to watch cricket and it bored the living shit out of me.

Never played hockey but I would say it's the more demanding physical sport, even more so than gridiron football. I found it easy to throw and catch a football (gridiron), dribble and shoot a basketball, field and throw a baseball, but hitting a baseball was the most difficult thing I attempted in my sporting life. Although learning how to retain close control of a football (soccer) was found to be quite difficult as well, though I never played until my 20s (save one fall season at age 12) so that put me at a disadvantage.

What the hell are you on about? Throwing into a zone to hit or having the advantage to genuinely intimidate the opponent at 90+mph? Having a fecking laugh. Both would hurt but one game has a genuine advantage to hurt. Anyway - off topic, I dislike baseball a lot. I am also american which says plenty.
All I'm going to say is I encourage you to visit a baseball batting cage and try to see if you can hit it. You WILL change your view of the sport I promise.

Edit: nevermind I saw your later response.

You should all know Its "Yankee Stadium" since America is centre of universe.

.

pfffff.....if you can play rounders you can do this in a breeze..;)

Xavi has been rumoured too.

So NYC would have a better midfield than us..

Baseball vs cricket, scrapping the bottom of the sporting barrel here. Baseball just seems to be an easier version of cricket: full tosses are the easiest shots to hit in cricket; bowling with a straight arm far harder than simply chucking it and you get a massive glove to catch the ball.

I also had the misfortune of watching Million Dollar Arm the other day. Cringey flick about a 2 Indians, who had never picked up a baseball in their lives, trained for a year and offered a contract with an MLS club. I thought even by Disney standards it was ridiculous, but apparently it was true! Imagine trying that with a proper sport.

How did this turn into baseball Vs Cricket?

Also look up Brett Lee or Mitchell Johnson bowling at 90 mph at a body for some carnage.

The video of 'which is easier to hit' doesn't really convert to 'which is easier to play' - somebody touched already that the consequences of missing a ball in cricket are much higher than baseball, so the margin for error is tiny. I find them both incredibly boring to watch, and I think Baseball would be a slightly easier sport to play - I'd be dreadful at both though.

Its al bollix...that rounders game they play....also that netball with matchstick giants throwing a ball to each other ;)

It's official: Frank Lampard leaves CFC. Great servant to the club and a true legend.

He's had 16 offers from clubs all around the world.

One of the greatest PL players ever. Utterly ridiculous goal record for a midfielder, will never be beaten in my eyes.

Sad day for us, but wish him well, great servant and one of the best in the PL era. His goals and experience will not be easily replaced. Wpuld like to see him back in the backroom in a few years, great man , one of the few intelligent decent blokes in football!

shame really...there allegedly was an offer on the table with the club based on a 1 year deal. He most probably has found somewhere that will offer him at least 2 years.
There will be some sort of testimonial or similar so he can say a proper goodbye to the fans

I still cant believe he is joining the Yankees though. I know that Frank Lamapard is different sportsman from Michael Jordan, but I can't see this being any different. Still it will be amazing to see him at The Yankee Stadium in their famous grey jersey.

Does anyone know what numbers are available on their roster? Am I right in saying Number 8 is available?

Would he play middle base?

Big respect for Lampard. Great player and a good character, he should be remembered as a legend of the PL.

Im guessing it had more to do with the money.

I live in America but know nothing about the MLS. Would be nice to see if someone could tell me when the season starts and how it works ect?

It lasts for 30+ games, regular season. Then nearly all the teams get into the playoffs anyway.

I used to like playing it on FIFA a a few years ago, as you could skip a lot of the league matches, then just play the playoffs.

I once saw an ESPN show about cricket v baseball. To prove baseball was better, they grabbed some team USA part time dobber and made him play cricket and baseball against one of the best pitchers of all time or something

They were surprised when the baseball player was better

That's because cricket is a shitty sport. Baseball is good. Hurling is for the Gods. Put a cricketer or a baseballer on a hurling field and dem biys'd fecked.

Im happy NYC FC is up right now. Don't like the Red Bulls. Will have someone to follow in NY.
Follow the New York Cosmos instead, NYC FC is a team aligned with Man. City.

Great finish last Saturday. At 53', they were leve. 10 mins later, Kilkenny were 9 up. Ten mins later, they were level.....and the points at the end from Shefflin and Canning.......

Different class.

Don't even know what to say to that. It's like someone saying they prefer ketchup in their spaghetti sauce rather than actual tomatoes.

Lampard is lucky NYCFC is at the lowest of importance in NY sports. He wouldn't make it on any other NY team if he played in another sport. That being said, I am sure a NY journalist will pick up on it soon.

Lampard is scum.

Welcome to America Phat One . . .

Frank Lampard under fire from New Yorkers for 9/11 insensitivity
New Yorkers reminded of former Chelsea player’s crass behaviour by one of city’s main newspapers ahead of imminent move to its new Major League Soccer club

Baseball is terrible. Cricket is probably just as terrible but I have not been abused by its terribleness as much living on this side of the world.

Baseball and Cricket are, barely better than darts. The only reason why I would rate either of those sports above the "sport" that is darts, is you do occasionally have freak level athletes doing insane stuff catching balls. Hitting the ball however, a fat smoker who can barely walk can do that.

Does it take skill to hit a ball with a stick? Sure, it also takes skill to juggle half a dozen flaming chainsaws. Both endeavors are equally retarded!
