Frank Lampard to NYC FC

I had to explain the same thing in another thread. I swear, these Brits, they can't pronounce anything related to baseball and for such a large nation they have awful baseball announcers and zero baseball talent. If only all the little English children didn't grow up playing soccer you might have a chance at winning the World Series one day. Until then, keep dreaming of playing in The Wembley Stadium.
We play cricket, but that's far more complicated to master than baseball.

You guys haven't seen the NY press in action. Wait until they dig this up.

I was there reading the story thinking 'another celebrity drinking binge, no big deal' then I saw the part about the hotel full of grieving American citizens; yeah I could see the media getting their hooks into that! You gotta laugh though, not at the grieving bereaved but at the situation as a whole.

I once saw an ESPN show about cricket v baseball. To prove baseball was better, they grabbed some team USA part time dobber and made him play cricket and baseball against one of the best pitchers of all time or something

They were surprised when the baseball player was better

I played softball the other day. A surprisingly good lark. For the casual player I reckon its probably slightly more fun than cricket.

At the top level I would rather watch eastenders than either

The Fat one should be a hit in America. They'll love him, especially in New York.

. . . On 23 September 2001, Lampard, along with three other Chelsea players was fined two weeks wages by the club for his behaviour whilst on a drinking binge on 12 September. Lampard and the others had abused American tourists at a Heathrow hotel, just 24 hours after the 11 September attacks. A hotel manager stated "they were utterly disgusting. They just didn't seem to care about what had happened".

well he has been plenty times back there on USA tours with Chelsea and no repercussions from that alleged incident which was over hyped at the time

Lampard is lucky NYCFC is at the lowest of importance in NY sports. He wouldn't make it on any other NY team if he played in another sport. That being said, I am sure a NY journalist will pick up on it soon.

Lampard is scum.

Never knew that about Fat Frank. But it's still over a decade ago, and it would be harsh to judge a man's personality on the actions of his 20 odd yr old drunken self.

A 20+yr old is a man, not a kid. It is not harsh to judge him on something like that.

Laying into American tourists the day after 9/11 is pretty much one of the most despicable things the Fat one could've done.

In vino veritus.
urm...they didnt actually lay into anyone. That was hyped up media garbage.
They were 4 young lads having a drink ( albeit a loud one) at a hotel near the airport and there happened to be Americans in the area where they were waiting for flights...because the airport was closed due to 9/11.
They were fined 2 weeks wages by the club not for abusing anyone but for bringing the club into disrepute by allegedly being drunk in public because the game against a European team had been called off and they were stuck at the hotel

In twenty years time, the story will go he beat up a bunch of tourists because their grief was bothering him.

Christ. What an cnut. Footballers are basically 10 year olds. He's probably reached some maturity since then, being a father

Ah, not so bad then

I'm from North Carolina.

On a separate note, if Lampard is fat then most of you guys (and me) are obese slobs.

It's like when people call footballers thick but often, hilariously, pronounce the 'th' as an 'f'

 True.

Seriously. Even the Anderson being fat thing annoyed me although fine, I can kinda maybe understand that point. But Lampard being fat? Either I'm on a forum that is full of super fit athletes or everyone is just frustrated with their own weight.

I'll just refer you all back to this post:

Try not to immediately believe everything you read in the rags, hmm? :smirk:

Well the aims are different. It's harder to hit a baseball but it's a lot less costly if you miss one. And hitting a Shoaib 100mph ball or trying to hit the ball when Warne's turning it round corners is not exactly easy either.

Here's that vid I mentioned earlier:

No it isn't

Utd7 is absolutely correct.
What the hell are you on about? Throwing into a zone to hit or having the advantage to genuinely intimidate the opponent at 90+mph? Having a fecking laugh. Both would hurt but one game has a genuine advantage to hurt. Anyway - off topic, I dislike baseball a lot. I am also american which says plenty.

You being American doesn't mean anything.
