NEAL: REDS HAVE REPLACEMENT LINED UP
By PA Sport Staff
Former Liverpool favourite Phil Neal believes the Anfield club have a replacement for Robbie Fowler lined up.
Fowler is set to join Leeds on Wednesday for a fee of more than £11million after the FA Barclaycard Premiership rivals agreed a fee for the England player.
And Neal reckons the Reds are prepared to let the player go because another striker will be joining the Premiership leaders soon.
Neal said: "It's clear Liverpool are planning for the future without Robbie Fowler.
"They have Jari Litmanen, Emile Heskey and obviously Michael Owen, while Patrik Berger can be used as an out and out striker - so they've plenty of options.
"But there's one due in as well, from what I've heard on the grapevine."
The Reds are trying to get a work permit for Czech youngster Milan Baros - but Neal would not be drawn on the identity of the player.
He added: "I'm not going to divulge what I've heard, but the player will be coming from overseas I'd have thought."
Neal continued on Sky Sports News: "Fowler didn't want to sign a new contract - he obviously wants to go.
"If the fee has been agreed then he knows the way forward."
"I think the fee is very good. He's got 18 months of his contract left so to get the money now will maybe help them invest for the future - but the fans will be gutted.
"But Liverpool play a different style now and it hasn't suited him, so maybe he's better off to look for a new ground to purvey his talents."
