Gaming Football Manager 2021 (FM21)

Don’t scout players. Do lots of trials. Exploit the loan system as much as you can too.

Ah yes.. I meant tips as in clubs to become.. The trial tip is pure gold for anoyone who hasnt been aware yet... I got Como from the Serie C to Serie A without having payed a single transfer fee. Offer trials to youth products of bigger clubs who are almost running out of contract..

I always make sure I have sufficient staff to rate trustworthy potential of youngsters I have on trial..

Got my copy for Christmas and finally started today. Went with Stade Brestois in Ligue 1. Squad is okay for survival, however finances are very tight to nonexistent.

My god Haaland is good on this, I got him in my second season with United and he is currently on 25 goals and 5 assists in 19 premier league games. Hopefully going to start a new save at the end of the season and wherever I go I won’t be signing Haaland again, he’s too good - it feels like cheating.
They have improved this game a lot but there is still something incredibly unrealistic regarding transfers and I have proven that by completely fixing Uniteds squad in less than two seasons with less than 200 million net and reducing the wage bill, good fun though.

What usually happens to Ronaldo and Messi in other people’s games? In mine Messi has signed a new contract but Ronaldo is available for free in a couple of months and nobody is interested yet.

The entire interaction module in this game is complete trash. It feels like something a 15-year-old scripted during their summer holidays, and it hasn't improved at all since its introduction. The problem is with the system that they implemented that there is an optimal way to answer the questions, and you realize that after a couple of hours playing the game and will always go with that and from that point on it's just tedious and repetitive.

I know you can give all the stupid interview sessions to your assistance manager, but he will feck it up sooner or later, and you will lose games because of it, so if you want to be at your best you are forced to go through it yourself.

And yeah I know you can play touch and not bother with shite like that, but I like developing young players and since you can't really control any training in FM Touch this isn't really a feasible option for me.
Is this really true? I mean how would it be quantified ?

What are they doing with substitutes? Can you have nine on the bench like in the Premier League and use the bigger quota of substitutions they have in the Champions League and Europa League?

Yeah all that stuff is accurate. I think the 9 subs thing in particular might be in the January update though.

Yeah, it should be. I definitely had to select seven subs for my last league games of the first season (I play slow).

Speaking of, I like the way they do the season review now. Much better.

Not really quantified, but I ran a couple of seasons with assistance manager taking press conferences and the overall performance over the season dropped compared to the two seasons before, mind I was at a level where I won the league without losing a game in two seasons and in the assistance manager season I lost 3 games, of course that might have been an accident but taking over the press conferences the next season I went unbeaten again. I simply feel that if you want to get the last bit of performance from your players your better off taking the press conferences yourself.

My assistant manager was a negative nancy. Even with high motivational stats he completely wrecked morale. His answers always leaned towards the team being lucky and that any defeat will crush us mentally

Ah right and you actually managed all the games yourself?

Yeah I pretty much do everything myself, training (team & individual), press conferences (matchda & tunnel), team talks, because I'm a masochist and I don't trust my assistance manager.
Haha , tbf I do pretty much everything myself but I meant for the experiment you did. Did you still take charge of all the games and just left press conferences to assistant ?

With press conferences I pick and choose, like for derby matches I always do them. Opening day/final day etc but standard run of the mil pre and post match press conferences I leave to assistant.

Oh sorry, misunderstood you there. Yeah pretty much, I only handed him the responsibility for the press conferences but I freely admit that this is hardly a conclusive test tbh I have no clue if the same thing wouldn't have happened if I took all the press conferences myself.

Asking you two because Im confident you play this game as much as me. May have asked before but now the full release is out, how are you finding the overall difficulty level?

I mean I’ve always been decent at the game but now I’m a bit like hang on I’m not this good. Did a league two save with Bolton, finished 1st with 100 points and 100+ goals. Started a new Peterborough save, 100+ points and 100 + goals again. Two games into the Championship and I’ve put 9 past Rotherham and Leeds and my interest is waning.
Whats your take ? Is it one of those where I’ll need to start off with Edinburgh city in Scottish league two to get a challenge?

Finding it incredibly easy tbh. It’s kind of hard not to win most games.

As I expected

I was thinking maybe I’ve got match engine breaking tactics but no it’s just normal basic shit.

What have you done to keep the interest?

Not played for two weeks

Might jump back in and do a one club save but not got the motivation too atm.

People have mentioned it’s too easy this year

I don’t think it’s too easy.

If you want a challenge you need to think smaller/different as England is just too easy with the amount of money in the top 3-4 leagues.

Don't bother. Other than a match engine improvement it's nothing more than a data update.

The match engine is great but can’t help but feel the FM20 engine with its inadequacies served a purpose. Made the game more challenging due to the incompetence.

That’s the irony, I’ve been handicapped financially. The two teams I’ve played with are broke and the brexit rules mean I can’t sign any cheap foreigners. The board also block all my attempts to sign anyone over 23
But yeah I’ll probably go abroad anyway, this brexit is killing the game in England.

Absolutely it does. I’ve seen lots of saves where they sim into the future and England/Premier League slides way down to like 30th or something.

Potentially, yes. Although I used/use one of the discord ME mods for 20 & it's playing fantastically. My current save with Forest in the Prem is right up there with FM12 for the challenge.

Yeah, SI need to have a long think about how they manage this long term. It is impossible for the game to replicate the way the work permit points system works in real life. I’ve noticed you can’t even appeal anymore, again something you will be able to do in real life. They should either scrap it or tone it down massively.

Surely someone will start releasing a no brexit database every year.

If it' too easy this year I'm not seeing that so far. Grant I'm only 7 games into my Ligue 1 season with Brest, but I won the first 2 games, but now without a win in 5.1 draw in there. :nervous:

Before this version, I haven't played since FM 19. Have they got rid of the option to "sell now" if your player has already agreed a pre-contract with another club? I can't seem to find it.

Finally back on the game after a nice little break. I clocked up like 300 hours in the month after release

Found this absolute gem in South Africa

Finished my 4th season with Southampton, a 0-1 Loss at Anfield on the last day of the season cost me the league title but we were only in with a chance because Utd bottled an 8 point lead in the run in, so not too disappointed. Got smashed a bit by PSG in the CL Quarters after topping our group and beating Inter in both last 16 legs. Szobozslai has been an absolute monster for me playing as in inverted winger on the left of a 442. Scores an insane amount of headers at the back post.

Good stuff man, what's your team?
