Gaming Football Manager 2021 (FM21)

They bought Mbappe for €112m (up to €200m) and Salah for €86m (up to €139m), their net spent is sort of moderate by the game's standards. It's more about who they bought and what they didn't buy. Like Casemiro, an ageing Kroos and the rather mediocre Pepe are the only CMs left in their squad and one is playing as CB. The squad doesn't have a single LB, so Carvajal - their only RB - is playing there and an ageing Ramos - whose legs are gone - has to play RB. They have spent close to €700m on attackers, including those €315m on three no9s, while they sold their defenders and CMs to pay for it and only brought in Pepe and Javi Martinez on a free to replace them.
Ah yeah! the typical FM engine issues. Honestly, the game would be a 100x better if they just improve the transfer dealings of AI and add a lot more variance in the potential ability of kids under 18 years - basically, even a 20-20 scout can't accurately predict whether the kid is going to make it or not

I remember last FM where City spent 500m in one window including 200m on Hudson-Odoi and then only played him for about 20 games in a 60 game season so that Madrid window doesn't seem that bizarre in comparison to me. Despite the good tweaks they make each year there will always be daft things like that happening.

Well yes, the AI (or basically anything aside from tactics and the ME) has always been terrible on the game and buying expensive players who end up in the reserves is a staple of every CPU club. But I don't remember squads this lopsided. Its like one of these shitty "FM experiment!! : what if Real Madrid wasn't allowed to buy players who can defend???" videos on YouTube.

Soooo, just finished my first season and guess who finished top scorer in the league with 26 goals? Karlan Grant of WBA, obviously.

Reminds me of back in FM12 where Bobby Zamora would be top scorer in year 1 guaranteed every save you played.

Jordan Ayew came top with 26 in my save in the first season. Batshuayi was 2nd with 22. So Palace had the two top scorers in the league.

That's how it should be. Scouts, even the best of them make mistakes. Tbf this game take it bit too far.

Can't expect players with 20 passing to complete every pass, likewise with 20 finishing to score every chance.

United is just far too easy on this game.

Won all 6 of my league games so far, and my 2 CL games. Even in the league, West Brom scored against me to take the lead and I went down to 10 men, yet managed to comfortable win 3-1.

At least Liverpool are still godlike, so will be a challenge to be ahead of them.

Main thing keeping me interested is blooding the youths through. Getting Greenwood, Williams, Mengi, Pellestri, etc. into the 1st team.

I mean if you pick Man Utd and you expect a challenge then you're not really playing it right. It's supposed to be 'easy' playing as one of the best teams in the world with some of the best players being able to afford pretty much anybody.

watching a streamer playing as Leicester and he just picked up Dommarumma for a free at the end of the first season. the AI is still fecked if probably the best young GK is available and fecking Lecister has no competition for him on a free.

Injuries have gone up loads in my 2nd season with a relaxed schedule. Confusing. Barely ever have a fit striker.

EDIT: I think I might stop playing until full release. Too many bugs and I think they've probably had to rush the release as there's way more than I can usually remember.

There's a bug with big players leaving for free which is being looked at

Online a lot of complaints about the game being too easy. Not talking winning treble first season easy but winning games 5-0, 7-0 etc even against top sides home and away. Lots of Season undefeated streaks being mentioned.
Of course the game is simpler with a bigger team but it seems these are legit issues at the moment.
How are people on here finding it?

Too easy.

Yeah, right now the game is easy and there are a lot of bugs concerning the work permits (coaches) and other things.

I had one where Iwobi left the club and a week later my players were unhappy that I wouldn’t let him leave the club.

There was a mod for FM20 which boosted the AI managers ratings, this solved the squad building issue & made the game harder in general as all AI managers at all levels were amped up.

It’s why the in game editor is a must. I make transfers for my competitors so I can have a decent challenge.

Started a journeyman type save. England, Ireland, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland loaded. No badges or experience.

Pep Guardiola took the Spurs Job in my save...for two days. Resigning to take over the Spain job.

Manager departures happen too often. Doesn’t Klopp get sacked if they don’t win the league?

The whole resigning after a day or sacked after a day seems to be a new bug though. Seen it reported a lot in fm20 too

Stopped playing my Utd save, will wait for full release tomorrow and then thinking I'll start lower leagues.

Finished my first season with United. United, Liverpool, City and Chelsea all within three points going into the final day. A great title race.

We had Liverpool on the last day which was always going to make it tough. Needed to win and hope City lost and Chelsea drew. Was 1-0 with 10 minutes to go and Fred played A Gerrard style back pass for Mane to run on to and score. 1-1 and the dream was over.

Enjoyed it though. Signed Haaland going into season two and got 100m for Pogba from Madrid. cnut wanted out so I was happy with the 100m.

I only play the mobile version as it takes too long now to play, I could devote a week to a single day in game. Has anyone played the touch version or mobile? I didn't know what to expect from this year's version, most feature updates seem specific to the full edition?

I play the mobile version, it's really good. Reminds me somewhat of football manager 2008, before the 3d match engine came into play.
Personally I find the mobile version absolutely perfect, the right amount of depth with the speed of play needed to plough through seasons quickly.
I would like to see a little more depth in regards to tactical tweaks however.
From what I gather, this year's version has minor tweaks to the ME and things like contracts.
More of an incremental update rather than anything major.
The touch version is decent too, a scaled back full version with a 3d match engine, I brought a cheap android tablet to play it on and it works a charm.
Ps, Good to see another Boro supporter in here

I was born there! Didn't know many of us still existed!

I figured as much, I've played every FMM since 2013 roughly and I wish for a host of updates, nothing crazy but feeder clubs and other minor adjustments like a better reserve league etc but it seems a minor upgrade again, hence my considerations on switching to the touch but I hear it doesn't work well on phones at all, I have a chrome book I can run it on but it seems quite in depth like the full version in truth.

I was born there too!! This seasons a bit of a travesty - similar to last. I thought Revell would sort them out, alas I fear he has been hampered by lower league recriutment,

Yeah, Touch is essentially the full game but without the extra contract negotiations, training schedules and the 'nitpicking' that teh full game tends to get bogged down with at times. The inclusion of a game plan along with instant result does speed things up however.

The mobile verison has a good community around it too with loads of customisations and downloads, logo packs and the like on FMHVibe.
The Touch version doesn't tend to work too well on phones - I know it doesn't run on majority of them but I had it on my razer phone and whilst it ran like a dream the UI was too fiddly for such a relatively small screen.

Third year on my save and the only notable managerial change was Spurs. Every other decent/big club in europe has their original coach. Weird. Usually there are tons of sackings every year.

Starting second season with United. It is impossible to shift players. Henderson, Mata, Jones, James, Bailly, Matic, the two Pereiras, Fred all transfer listed for half their value.

Next to no offers. The odd offer that does come in, the players turn down, presumably because they wages on offer are too low. All on contracts until 2023/24/25

This has ruined FM for me the last few years, I get you should struggle to get rid of crap on high wages but you literally can’t give them away. Couple that with not finding moves for good players on the fringes, it makes squad building tedious.

Is the full game worth it this year?

Been a fan of the Touch version as it’s a dream on the iPad but miss the good ol’ days of the in game editor - also reading into a download that boosts AI so hopefully squad building for the opposition is better.

I like FM20 but got bored as the squad was ridiculous & the rest of the league had fell off.

yeah. And all those players I mentioned are on a decent wage, so if you try to build without shifting them, you end up with an astronomical wage Bill.

I like that aspect actually. There is some realism atleast due to that.

I would agree in some respects when it comes to the older, rubbish players on good wages or long contracts. I still think if you offer them out for free and to pay their wages in full clubs should at least be in for them.

The ones that annoy me are when you have good players that nobody wants no matter what

FM still hasn't removed the "ease past" headline? It was a personal pet peeve of mine for years when I still played these games - a 3-2 win is not "easing past" by any means.

I realise this is humongously, almost unprecedentedly irrelevant but it still annoys me.

It's because they're thing that any football fan would notice. I feel like if I worked on the game I'd be changing all the little nitpicky things that annoy me that aren't accurate enough.
