Fallen Muppet. Lest we never forget
The Benjy v Zealand rivalry is great
For those that don't remember my 2021 Champions League final result posted earlier, here it is again.
Now, here is the recent 2023 Champions League final...
How many times have you lost a ridiculous game you should have won through a series of unlikely events, only to be gifted an easy win against good opposition almost as an apology in the next game?
It seems to happen to me on every save multiple times.
On this occasion, a “gimme” cup final against Hercules who we just beat 4-1. Set up well, on top, then a VAR goal chalked off, a missed penalty, a two footed challenge (2nd red of season), concede, concede again, and even though you manage to stay on top, can’t grab the second goal. Infuriating. Just give me Ajax or AZ in the final if I’m not meant to win it!!
Not to mention the season ending injury that you always get in the run in to a key player!
Would never even have thought about winning it at the seasons end, but absolutely gutted to lose such an easy final in such a weird way
From March onwards, immediately after finishing each game I will clear my team in the tactic screen and fill it with a team of back up players. Then I change it back just before submitting the lineup for the next game.
Those freak training injuries during the run in only ever happen to players I have selected in the team for the next match.
Conceding 3 goals in the last 10 minutes of the CL semi final, against a 10 man Real Madrid side who've barely had a shot on target during the previous 170 minutes? That's harder to avoid.
Gah, my laptop has just packed in. The fan sounds like a diesel engine and nothing will load, but I can still get files off it and onto an external HD.
If I wanna carry on my save on a different PC, do I just need the save game file? I have a couple of saved tactics in that save, are they part of the saved game file, or will they be saved elsewhere?
Got 2 whiny players saying I didn't keep my promise to strengthen the attacking area of the squad when I signed them. Doesn't really matter as there's only 4 games left and I'm top by 10 points. Nobody else is taking their side and I've told them they can go.
Joke's on them because when I get promoted I'll be looking to improve the entire squad and make these two surplus to requirements anyway. One of them isn't even a first-choice player. You'd think he'd be happy to be part of a squad that finished 17th last season and about to win their league this then wondering if I'd want to keep him. Instead he's acting like losing him would be a loss to me.
Any tips for getting Work Permits? Doesn't seem to be very easy on this game but I have this guy waiting for me and can't wait to get him invovled!
I think your best bet is a loan to a country with a low threshold. Spain only has a two year stay to get a Spanish passport. So maybe if you have a Spanish feeder?
I think that’s the only way though at this stage. Tie him down to a long deal and send him to Spain for two years
On my Sunderland save when I found a great South American youth player I would more often than not just pay the required fee to get around any issues. It's a horrible feeling seeing a quality youth player with a low release clause but knowing you simply can't get him unless you pay a certain amount.Any tips for getting Work Permits? Doesn't seem to be very easy on this game but I have this guy waiting for me and can't wait to get him invovled!
Congratulations!Finished the season and won the title at the first season of asking, thanks to Kean and Brewster.
Kean ended up missing the last 6 games and the cup final and still finished on 30 goals for the season. Brewster ended up with 25 in the league and tied him for top scorer.
Pelayo, Kenneh and Armini have cemented themselves as key players and all of them signed new contracts which up their release clauses.
I should be feeling great, because it’s Excelsior and it’s the very first season in the top division, but losing an easy cup final in the manner we did really took the gloss off it.
We have Kean, Brewster, Rabbi, Nmecha and Braithwaite all first teamers returning to their clubs. It will leave us with about 11 players (some of which are awful) to start to build a CL squad from.
3 good pre-contract signings will help us out a little though. Adarabioyo will join from City to bolster the back-line. Passlack will come in from Dortmund for a proper option at RB (we were playing Armini there) and Akkaynak, a talented deep lying playmaker who was wanted by big German teams, will join from Willem. Really happy with those on frees.
The board has only given us £2 million to spend and even with those 3 players coming in, we probably only have about 8 or 9 who you would start in a CL game. I like a squad of 22, with cover for every position and a few utility men.
I have rejected big bids for Armini and Kenneh because they both have 40% sell on fees (the only way I could get them in), but if one of them starts kicking off, I may have to sell to get the squad built up. Even with 6 loans, we probably have a squad of 16-17 players, a few of which I don’t trust.
Big summer ahead!!
I find they whine even if you do add players in that area, I've had the same thing with coaches before.Got 2 whiny players saying I didn't keep my promise to strengthen the attacking area of the squad when I signed them. Ah that's a bit shit, good to know for next time though. Does it speed things up if he gets a Brazil call up?
Congratulations!
Did they at least give you a decent wage budget to work with? You might be shopping in the free agents supermarket this year, you do get a few good players pop up in there every year though.
Yeah, I wouldn't be looking to try and do 2 games a week with a squad that thin, I always end up with squads that are far bigger than what I really need though.I don’t think there is a way around it now without a passport. Like Berba said, if the larger fee isn’t paid to get round it when he signs, you are stuck looking for alternative means.
I think the fastest is two years, so if you are looking cheap 16 year olds in the future, having that set up is probably your best bet.
Thanks mate, I was surprised by it myself, but Kean and Brewster were too good. It wasn’t really any of my own doing. Just lucked out with two monsters up front.
I think I will need to sell one of my initial players, I won’t have a choice. Only having 15-16 players ready to play is asking for trouble when games start to come thick and fast.
I will have to get my loans sorted, and see who I can bring in, and then look to use the transfer cash from a big player sale to fill in the rest of the gaps.
If I buy first, I risk missing out on loans or them choosing someone else and not being able to get in any quality in that position
What a little money grabber!
Going up!
One slight regret, got a loan striker from Havre AC in France who has done well for me and his contract is expiring so was looking at him on a Bosman. The week before I was confirmed as champions he wanted £1.1k a week which I could afford, one game later and with my new budgets set he wants 2k which I can't. I can pay £1.8k and I'm sure I can get him down to that but I don't know if he'll be first choice or not depending on who else I can get with the bigger budget. Would definitely take him for £1.1k now but it's too late for that and if I do sign him up would feel like wasted part of my budget by not snapping up for less when I could.

Half way through the initial league bit and we've just managed to sneak to the top spot. Spent months lingering in 4th after a rocky start and the board set a target of top 3, which is actually difficult as AEK, PAOK and Olympiakos have very strong teams.
Our Champions League campaign lasted a grand total of 4 games in the qualifiers as we ended up getting knocked out by Lyon. Dominated our Europa League group though so get to skip into the 2nd knockout round, money is quite a bit less but I was out of Europe entirely at this point last year.
Well against we beat the lower teams quite consistently I find, the big European teams I lose even if the team plays well, we did manage a 1-0 win over Napoli last year but lost every other game in a group with them, City and PSG.How do you feel like you’re stacking up against the European teams? How good are your standout players at this stage?
Yeah, I probably should really. It would also allow me to move Djordjevic to be my BPD as he is quite a bit better than the one I have. Didn't even realise Barisic had been performing that well until I compared the two.I'd put the Croat kid in now, he looks better to me.
That's punch the monitor bad.I think I've just experienced peak football manager.
Hopeful ball knocked long into my box, my keeper and LB proceed to tackle each other, ball drops to the opposition striker. He hits a shot that strikes the foot of the post and rebounds to one of my CBs, he then decides he can take his time before casually attempting a ball seemingly aiming for his CB partner, who is about 2 yards away, this pass gets intercepted by an opposition player slide-tackling it into the goal.
I turned off play out from the back at the start of this game as well.
I would be wary mate, I found at that level that I was able to get youngsters from the Prem teams that were far better than what I had the previous season.
Even loans from teams in League One should be an option now and they are beasts at that level
It was made worse by it being the only goal in a loss to Olympiakos, a game where we definitely should've had a penalty. That's punch the monitor bad.
Yes, you were right. Some of the free agents who previously weren't interested became interested and they're better.
Can't sign any of them though! The day before the window opens I get a takeover bid and transfer embargo.
That's potentially an issue as I have a lot of contracts expiring and was going to release a lot of players. Could in theory end up with hardly any players if I release them and the takeover bid lasts a long time. Still, that's what I'm going to do, try and wait it out and hope things are resolved soon. Don't want to panic into giving new contracts.
Edit: I needn't have worried, the takeover was complete in a couple of days. Cheeky new chairman then tried sign two players I don't want, cancelled the deals.
9-0.. it's just bullying at that pointI've hit the most incredible form, don't think i've ever dominated a game this much in the past. Annoyingly, Arsenal and Chelsea refuse to drop points and not that far behind me!
It was made worse by it being the only goal in a loss to Olympiakos, a game where we definitely should've had a penalty.
Just a like for like chairman swap or did they give you any money?
I feel call ups vary depending on nations and even managers, I had Mejbri get his 1st cap for France whilst playing in the Greek 1st division but I've seen similar things to Kean happen in years gone by.It's weird how much the game favours the big clubs at times or revolves around it. Kean was top scorer in the PL with 31 goals (10 ahead of the next person) and he's top scorer currently with 12 (2 ahead of the next person) but he can't get a call up from Italy at all because he's not at a bigger club (Despite me finishing 2nd last year and sitting in 2nd right now). I'm not complaining too much because he's always fresh for me but that's just daft. I can understand if he was in the Championship doing that but yeah. Same with Digne for France - top assists and always has an insane rating.
Another example is the manager of the month/year. Klopp seems to clean up most of the time despite periods where i see someone at Norwich for example have a 100% record for that month.
