Gaming Football Manager 2014

Wow so apparently Barca are the masters of corner goals and crosses in this game. Got beat 6-3 in the cup. 4 goals from corners, 2 goals from crosses that Neymar headed in without any resistance. Sometimes I can't suppress the feeling that player stats in this game don't even matter at all.
I think so too, but I believe its the match engine mostly.

I had a 5'5 winger one time who'd score a header a game, like Evra on speed.
Its not impossible to score a header if you are small, just hard. But Evra is 5'9 so he's neither short nor tall.

Also...GOT THE JOB! WOOO! And in the summer too, so I can make the team my own. Muhahahahahaha.

Just decided to go with instant results from now on to get through the first season and seems like the team starts to play good football again.

Edit_1:

Interesting. Gonna be playing Bayern in the CL final and am on even points with Barca but they are the better team head to head so most likely I will lose the title to them despite having the same points.

Unfortunately Ronnie is out of the rest of the season with a 3 month injury, which really sucks but Bale has stepped up a fair bit and performed quite well after Ronnie's injury.

Edit_2:

Fecking hell Barcelona lost the last game of the season 1-3 to Atletico and I won mine 3-0 which means Atletico made me La Liga champions.

Edit_3:

Feck. Lost the CL final to Bayern despite being the better team. Of course Pepe the idiot got sent off.

Starting yet another new save with Marino in the Segunda B1 division. Let's see how this goes.

That's clearly West Ham preparing for tomorrow.

Still getting caught on the break, or by crosses......

Considering replacing one of my 3 CB's with a Sweeper.
I used a formation very similar to yours in last years FM, only I had a sweeper and I moved one of the DMs up into CM as a box to box. Worked really well.

2 straight draws because my cnuting strikers cant finish chances. fecking Poulsen, superb all round game but misses 2 1v1's every bloody game.

Oh and Lloris is a grade A cnut. CL round of 16 game vs Spurs. cnut saved impossible shots. Still won 3-1 but should have been 6 or more.

EDIT: Their goal was Eriksen heading home a flighted long cross beating Balanta and Zouma to the header. Sounds reasonable.

What's the best way to play De Bruyne? I'm doing well but he's not doing anywhere near as he can.

So I'm going to attempt to get a good 4-1-4-1 working by trying to copy how Pep's side plays in FM. They don't go as overboard on possession as they do in real life and are ridiculously hard to score against.

Anyone had a go at the 4-1-4-1 before? I always seem to find it quite hard to get my deeper players into an attacking mood for some reason they always seem to stay quite deep and I end up with only 1 or 2 players going into dangerous positions on the pitch.

Enjoying managing in Germany. There aren't too many matches and the winter break is very welcomed.

5'9 is short, at least relatively short.

Regardless, a 5'5 winger scoring a header nearly every game is a bit ridiculous. I was delighted, but it made no sense.

That's how I began, barring the Sweeper, but I was being murdered on the counter. Couldn't sign one, not even a mediocre one to be had, so I have to wait but next year I might have enough rep to pick on up and experiment.

Poulsen..... His finishing and decisions. Only for them he's potentially the perfect striker.

I've tried it, lovely defensively, but I usually prefer more aggressive attacking and end up pushing the wingers higher and end up with a 4-1-2-2-1

As much as I love managing in France, all the fixtures are murder, Spain too as all the cup games are two legs.

Germany is a lovely change of pace.

Yeah as always I lost interest in the formation fairly fast. Just can't get my wide players to really do what I want the to for some reason and defensively I'm also not getting as stable as I think it should be mainly due to the fact that off-side trap never seems to work.

Gone back to my Real game fooling around a bit atm even though it's surprisingly hard to get in good players for my team. Chelsea demanding like 330M € for Lukaku and stuff like that has prevented me form buying any high profile players so far. I brought in Jack Wilshere though for my left CM spot. I got him for 37M € which seems like a fair price.

Yeah, the offside trap is rubbish. I'm liking my wide mids in this 3 back system, set as defensive wingers(a surprisingly aggressive role).

Lukaku is an odd one, some saves he goes for 20m, one recent one I had, he was still being loaned to Everton 3 years later.

Yeah in some games he seems to develop into an absolute beast and in some games he is still pretty much as he is at the start even at the age of 26. I guess it depends on how his hidden attributes roll at the start of the game and a bit to do with injuries as well I guess.

I thought his hidden attributes were set in stone because of his age?

I guess he'd shine more in a 2 man setup, or a team built to supply him, seems to lack in a few stats to control a game himself.

I´m not quite sure. There are even 21 year olds sometimes that have certain attributes not set in stone but set to 0 like injury proneness, ambition and some of those which are all vital to how a player develops.

I just had a quick peek to satisfy my curiosity.

Only his Injury Proneness and Controversy are at 0. The rest are very good, fwiw.

Hmm yeah if a player gets injured too much they either decline or don't develop in my experience so this could be a reason why he doesn't do too well in some games.

Still had no luck with brining in a tall, strong striker. West Ham has declined my 45M € offer for him and I'm not willing to go any higher than that.

It also seems to be a lot harder in FMC to unsettle players. Non of the players I have bid for so far have really gone unhappy due to my bids getting turned down. Pretty annoying.

@Earthquake I'm giving Poulsen heavy finishing training. Half a season to go, lets see.

Oh and I had a sly criticism of his finishing in the media and he scored a brace in the next game

Given the job of avoiding relegation, I had to go against my style as getting points was paramount. So I Mourinho'd my way through safety with a streak of 1-0 wins. :D

How many penalties do you see being given directly from corners in real life? Happens way too often in this game. Bollocks really.

Sacrificed your principles for glory. Shame on you.
Haha yeah. This was a first for me, being thrown in a situation like that and getting relegated would have been really bad, as I would have to spend another season coming back up with many players leaving. I started off well with my usual fluid and attacking style, and while the chances were being created the strikers just never wanted to finish so I just sorted the set pieces a bit with shoot on shout instruction and between those to approaches managed to get a goal a game while being terribly boring and negative the rest of the time. Every game at half time the commentary bar would read "Surely the second half would be better..."

Now with a transfer window under my belt I will get a striker who won't miss sitters and then get back to the beautiful brand of football Aldo is famous for.

I sell Bas Dost to HSV in January. He scores his only two goals of the season against me in a 2 - 1 win in April. How totally random and unexpected

I'm trying the 4-1-4-1 with Southampton now, still tinkering about. Having similar problems to you though. In defence it's solid but yeah players stay quite deep when in possession when you want them to be pushing up and making runs forward.

And then if you station them higher and play a higher line they it can look fantastic in attack but you get burned in defence. FM really needs two formations - one for attack and one for defence.

I was hoping that the player roles in the 2 CM and DM positions can mean that they strike the right balance in attack and defence. I'm currently using an anchor man, DLP (s) and BBM (s) but seems it's too defensive.

What's a good combination of player roles for 2 CMs and 1 DM? Keeping in mind I've got players like Wanayama, Scheniderlin, Ward-Prouse, Cork (basically the default Southampton guys).

Mats Moller-Daehli is a great little player in this game. Managed to get him on a free from Cardiff, and he has gone from strength to strength for me. Currently he assisting and scoring his way for Paris fc 2000 to be top of ligue 1.

All the big clubs are after him, but no way I can sell him as he's my best player by miles. I won't be able to get somebody of his ilk in again without spending big.

I came 5th in the Bundesliga and won the German Cup in my first season at Wolfsburg. My main problem is my team are a bunch of spineless cnuts. At one point in the season we were 2 - 0 up at half time and lost 3 - 2, and also lost 2 - 1 on the last day of the season against ten men after leading 1 - 0. Keep throwing leads away.
