Gaming Football Manager 2010

City's probably the best team to manage in this game.

Huge budget, little expectations at first, and the squad you start off with is very good. Makes for an exciting challenge trying to build a world class squad.

He's right it is a lot more enjoyable than United, the whole debt issue in the game really does cripple your ability in the transfer market as it does in real life.

Not really, it's just piss easy! I prefer building up a smaller reputation club into a powerhouse in Europe. My Kaiserslautern team is absolutely epic, I've got the best young players in the game and in a couple of years time I'll be a serious contender for the CL (already won the Europa).

The debt was never an issue in my game. Playing with United was so easy. I walked the league every year and always had plenty of money because i rarely needed to sign anyone.

It's frustrating because you're very rarely rewarded financially for doing well as United.

For instance just recently I won everything with United in a single season, so you could imagine that with all the prize money, and TV rights that I'd get a healthy transfer budget....no I got £20million.

Its by no means a bad budget to have but If I want to rebuild a team to bring in some quality young players, it pretty stupid having to sell a few of my better players to afford it....especially considering I've just won everything! I'm hardly managing a struggling team.

Teams like City get a ridiculous transfer budget regardless of how well they do.

Yeh but as you just said, you've won everything. Where is the challenge in givin you buckets of money? At least a smaller budget gives you a bit of a challenge (though still not a particularly difficult one).

The challenge is I want to rebuild my squad, and that itself takes quite a bit of money in this game. Yes, my current squad as it stands is probably capable of winning most things for another 2-3 seasons, but if I want to build a team for the next decade or so, Im going to need funds to bring in some quality youngsters as well as some world class players to replace those ageing players.

Giggs, Scholes, Neville and VDS have just retired in my game, its going to cost me a lot more than £20million to find half-decent replacements. Yes I have some young prospects that may be capable, but even then to mount a consistent challenge its not enough.

I might take the Real Madrid job on offer I think :D

So why do you want great budgets every year? I've already bought a lot of good kids in so even if I don't get any more budgets I'm set.
Infact it's more fun and challenging when United start cutting down on your budgets.

So rebuild with a small budget. Surely that's a better challenge? Otherwise it would just be easy.

There's already loads of quality youngsters at United. Cathcart, Evans, Fabio, Rafael, Cleverley, James, Welbeck + Macheda. There's plenty to work with there.

From what you've said though, i just think we both enjoy the game very differently.

I have Matty James also. He's my captain :)

Tactics and training schedules people? I feel like the n00best of n00bs on this game. I'm shit. With United! Ffs..

Try and keep tactics basic and you don't need to feck with training schedules.

Too elaborate, i find unless you know exactly what you're doing with tactics you're probably just making it worse. Keep to a basic tactic and only alter minor things.

With a team like United you shouldnt need to do much else.

You need to feck with training schedules? I have honestly never touched them.

Nah. I've never touched them. To achieve the best possible results you should probably learn what to do with them but it isn't necessary.

After talking about this today i've got a right craving to get home and crack on with my Burnley save. I've got 6 ex United players in my first team :)

i downloaded Tugs Training Schedules - there is one for each position/role, and is meant to be a bit more efficient than the default ones. I does make a bit of a difference making sure that you have your squad training the right stats.

Initially i made up my own schedules, one for each main position, but i found it to be a bit too time consuming and not much fun to be doing it with every game i started, so i just downloaded Tugs and use them now.

I'm playing Macheda as a single striker at the moment. Rooney can't get a game. My interest in strikers have cooled.

Well in the case of wingers just play Nani on the left and Valencia on the right, they both do the job well. And Park is more than capable as backup.

When started out as United the only thing you really need is a quality CM. I picked up Van der Vaart for £5mill from Real Madrid. In fact Real Madrid seem to put a lot of decent players on the transfer list. They agreed to sell me Mahamadou Diarra for £0 . Right back also is a clear weakness, but if you let Rafael play regularly he turns immense. Otherwise Dario Srna makes a really good signing, everyone else is just overpriced.

Kjaer or Chiellini. I sold Rio in my game too (hard to turn down for £35million at 32), and Evans has been filling in just fine. Have Smalling as backup.

I let him for for $35 to Madrid and got in hangeland after Kjaer rejected me for city (cash)

They were selling Gago for just $5m

I got Ebbsfleet to the Championship then jumped ship to West Brom but after two seasons I still can't promote them. Can't understand why people would want to be United over and over again or people that cheat, takes the fun and the challenge out of the game IMO.

how good is vidic/evans? Should I cash out on Vidic to go for Hangeland/Kjaer? No one's mentioned Obertan but he's been very very good for me.

Obertan is brilliant in the game, a lot of people make the mistake of selling him cheap early on.

Depends on how much you need the money really. Madrid and the like offer huge amounts for vidic. I'd advise that you keep one of Vidic/Ferdinand and have the other one partner Evans, or even Kjaer.
