Films you like, but most criticise them, so you wouldn't want to admit it

So we have 3 films that have like 80%+ on RT and huge box office success and a film that got mixed reviews but is like the most loved guilty pleasure film ever. Did I read the thread title right? -_-

But I guess Grandmas Boy.

Who cares what "people" criticise. I love shitty movies.

I'm with Lance here, who cares if someone doesn't like the films I do? I watch some unbelievably shit movies, knowing they are shit movies, just to laugh from start to finish, pretty much B movies with the worst acting along with everything else ever.

Well, they're my guilty pleasures. I have a lot of snooty, film-critic type friends who scorn the big blockbusters, but personally I love a big action movie.

Rocky 3-5
Die Hard 4

I don't buy this idea that Woody Allen has lost it, literally every comedy he's written/directed has been bang on the money as far as I'm concerned. Films like Hollywood Ending, Anything Else and Whatever Works got roundly criticised but I think they're all very amusing. Whatever Works was a bit of a disappointment but any film that involves my two comedy heroes was always going to fail based on my massive expectations. I am convinced that the other two I mentioned are genuinely great movies, watch them if you haven't already (based on the box office takings that's statistically pretty likely).

I don't care that I would watch movies which others may think are shit.

I'm not ashamed to admit I like Rocky 5, Batman & Robin and Scream 3. All which have gotten slammed by fans and critics.

I totally agree!

I love Ishtar, Weekend at Bernie's and National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation and I can not lie.

ETA: And I laugh at Cheech & Chong films and cried at the ride of the Rohirrim in The Return of the King!

I watched that a couple of days ago. Followed by the sequel on Friday. Beat that.

The Warriors. OK it wasn't very shit in the day but when you watch it now its hilarious.

Blair Witch Project - Possibly my favourite horror movie after the Exorcist.

Most hate it. Or at least Is a film were you either love or hate it

Its probably 50/50

I can't, but I'm stunned and amazed I'm not the only Caftard who've watched the sequel, the creatively titled Weekend at Bernie's II.

It just occurred to me that my sister and I watching WarGames, Electric Dreams and The End of Evangelion in one evening might be up there with your Bernie experience.

I loved it, I even bought a T-shirt of it and was proudly a "fan". I only saw it once though, and never watched a sequel, what I mostly loved about it was the novelty / surprise factor, and that was that single one time at the movie theatre.

Was about to post this. I always though everyone loved Braveheart. Its brilliant

It's incredibly historically inaccurate. Like, completely wrong. Anyone with any education for English/Scottish history laughs their heads off at it. When I went to Edinburgh castle all the tour guides were laughing about how completely wrong it is. 'Braveheart' wasn't even William Wallace's title, it was Robert the Bruce's title. And plus, they suggest that Wallace was the father of Edward III, and that completely messes up about 700 years of English history. Edward III was born several years after Wallace was executed, and plus that French princess he has a fling with in the film was in reality only about 7 years old when Wallace was fighting those battles.

I enjoyed it though.

Nothing wrong with Weekend at Bernies!

I'm also rather fond of Hudson Hawk

I must have seen 'Weekend at Bernie's' 50 times. I only recall seeing the sequel a couple of times, and that was many years ago. The viewing on Friday was sketchy, to say the least. I suppose the one thing the original is missing is Voodoo.

I liked WarGames. That young, clean cut, Broderick is quite a dish.

My friends mocked me when I said The Remains of the Day was one of my top-5 films of all time. They said it was a "gay" choice.

Well, if liking that film is gay I don't want to be straight.

Well I get called all sorts for loving black and white films by a lot of my friends. Most friends are useless when it comes to good films imo -_-

Weekend at Bernie's is anything but rubbish
I liked xXx when i saw it :nervous:
I could watch it again.. everyone else things it was shit

I like loads of "awful" films. Superman III is one of my favourites - I've got the extended TV cut taped off ITV in 1985-ish. Brilliant.

 I was this close to mentioning Hudson Hawk too -- terribly underrated film!

This thread is pure joy. :D

And prateik, I never meant to imply Weekend at Bernie's is rubbish, far from it. Like Lance, I've no problem admitting I love it. It's just one of those films who're generally regarded as garbage because people don't know their arse from their elbow, are insecure about their taste in films or just don't have a sense of humour.

Pretty much every single Adam sandler film
Labyrinth
Never-ending story
Return to oz
The wizard
Willy wonka and the chocolate factory (the original)
Escape to witch mountain
Return to witch mountain
Watcher in the woods
