Film Film RedCafe's Favourite Movies Of All Time Contest (ROUND 4)

Impossible task so sticking to noir or neo-noir(ish). Still very random:

1) Chinatown
2) Zodiac
3) Blade Runner
4) The Usual Suspects
5) Memento

Small hope it gets in with the thrillers. Same as I hope There Will Be Blood gets in with the dramas.
I'm certain this will get through. I was going to originally do a final round with the films that narrowly missed going through... But then animation would get left out... Wish I had more time to expand it further.

Is Zodiac right for this round? It feels to me like it should go in thriller/mystery
There is too much crossover between crime and thriller to say. Both are listed when you look up the film’s genre.

For me if the focus is unraveling a crime and following clues it fits into “crime”. Though that may make me a hypocrite for leaving The Silence of the Lambs for “thriller”; hell if I know.

Why are you attached to having animation as a category? While there are certainly animated films with adult appeal it does feel a little like a Kids category.

Edit: Actually I forgot some like Akira, Ninja Scroll and Ghost in the Shell. I guess it's okay to stay but wish we had some more rounds.

It also also allows musicals, which is a big genre. I don't really consider it kiddy though with great movies like Akira and Your Name.

They could go into thriller. All depends how you see it.

1. Godfather 1
2. Godfather 2
3. Scarface
4. Reservoir dogs
5. Pulp Fiction

I could fit 50 movies into this catagory.

There's a lot more quality animated films than there are superhero, for instance.
Even if that’s true for people who don’t like family friendly flicks, ‘Superhero‘ didn’t have its own category.

There has been some great animation content, but much of the good stuff is in series not movies. I guess I can think of some anime which is what my list will consist of.

Hence why I've just bundled musicals in with it. I know some won't be happy but a lot of popular Western animations are essentially musicals and as a genre, I didn't want to leave musicals out as it's a big one... Although I don't expect a single live action musical to be in the top 5.

I’m surprised nobody has picked 12 Angry Men yet .

I'd put that squarely under drama. Crime provides a context, but doesn't really play a role in any of the characters' actions.

I had Godfather down for drama, but looks like it may go through here. Which is fine, as it gives me another drama pick.

1. Torn Curtain
2. The Night of The Hunter
3. Cruising
4. French Connection
5. Blue Velvet

Honorable mentions and because I have a sweet spot for them would be Three Days of the Condor, the Third Man and Le Trou, The Terminator as TechNoir.

LOTR: Fellowship Of The Ring
LOTR: Return Of The King
LOTR: The Two Towers
Avengers: Infinity War
Batman Begins
That’s awful (LOTR movies deserve a place obviously but they're not three single-handedly best movies in the category).

It's really tough to do a crime movies list though, soooo many great movies have to be dropped. Half of De Niro's filmography can get in.
  1. Pulp Fiction
  2. Oldboy
  3. The Godfather 2
  4. Taxi Driver
  5. Fargo

If Old boy can fit into this category then surely Ichi the Killer can and all?

This category is almost impossible. I want to include about 30 films.

1. Pulp Fiction
2. Reservoir Dogs
3. Goodfellas
4. Godfather PT II
5. Casino

When you are two pages in and see no one has mentioned Mann best film
