The matches in the online world cups: do they count as ranked matches?

Five of us played the World Cup mode. I reached a final and it was 3-3 at ET and went to penalties, coincidentally it was the first penalties of our tournament and both of us did not know how to take them and I lost out 2-1, and he fecking got the bloody World Cup and celebrated like a maniac. The new way for taking penalties really screwed me over.
Im in thailand at the moment, been reading all the comments in here about how good it is, ive asked my brother who is back home in england to trade fifa 2010 in for this, so its waiting for me the day i return, which funnily enough is the day the world cup starts! is this a good choice or should i have kept fifa2010? bearing in mind i was getting a bit tired of single player fifa2010??

The new penalty function fecked me over too - it goes a lot faster in a game than in the training mode.

Played my first online ranked match and got a 2-2 draw. I was England and the other guy was France. He kept stripping Ashley Cole for pace with Anelka.
I had to download squad updates before I could play which was interesting, I wonder if they will delete/replace players that don't make the squad or just add to the current list?
I hope they don't delete Agbonlahor as he is my best attacker because he just runs away from everyone and has an unrealistically good shot..

Good choice IMO, it feels much better. Dunno about the size of the pitch, but it certainly looks better ! You can choose from a pool of players, don't know how vast that is as I've just gone with the default squad.
I won't be going back to FIFA 10, except for the odd career session with United. Will stick to World Cup until '11 comes out !
I don't think it's as good as Fifa 10. Purely because it takes an age to select your last defender and by then your opponent has already made the run and is either level or behind your defence and in on goal.
Thatnk god it's not just me! If i'm against a runner with pace i select a defender and they're running the wrong way so i have to haul them around and by that time it's too late.
I've started using the tactic of selecting a player and running beyond my defence and playing the sweeper role manually whilst they attack, it does help.
I haven't had that problem...

I've got it on the PS3 mate, i haven't touched my 360 for about a month now and whenever i buy a multiplatform game it's for the PS3.
It's bloody brilliant, and much quieter too. When i last played on the 360 i couldn't believe the noise it made.

I've always used that tactic but it's much harder on this game as it takes longer to select the player you want and is slower so you can still be caught out quite often.
That tactic on Fifa 10 makes pacy attacks pretty redundant
Is the online component on this significant enough to invest in the game for it alone? Because if it's not then I'm downloading it for my modded 360
I just tried online for the first time. It disconnected as usual, however I can confirm that against actual human players online where it's a bit delayed, the defending is horrendous.

Grr. It's not my net as every single other game works.
I mean by pressing shoot and him not doing it for about half a second, giving the defender/keeper time to get back.
I've managed to string a couple of games together and am now in the last 16. Playing Germany, this guy plays the most boring, annoying football. Runs down the wing, tries cut-backs and tap ins. Dull.
Well this isn't turning out well for me so far. Undeserved victories aplenty for the opposition. Just lost a game 7 - 6, ffs.
Boring stuff right now, I hate people. I want to be a cat or something.
have you tired installing the game rather than running it from the disc.

I've played 6 matches on normal now, won four of them (including Brazil), and drew two. I still suck, there are certain instances in games where I deserve to be punished but the difficulty level lets me off the hook.

Anyone have any tips on how to score from free kicks? Mine always land in Row Z.
If you're about 25yards out, put approx 50% power in your shot. Don't use LB to add extra power, just use your shoot button.
You'll find more will clear the wall and fly into the top corner.

Errr, please don't tell me you use L1 to change the player you're controlling when defending and not the Right Analog Stick? The Analog stick goes a long long long long way in helping out!
And therein my friend lies the difference in being a classy Chiellini or a Titus Bramble when it comes to defending in FIFA 10/World Cup 2010. Use that very role, always try to control the player who's marking NOT the player with the ball, but the player most likely to get a pass/through ball. Helps a LOT.
Some of the challenges are fecked up. How are you going to score 3 goals on World Class with a team with no energy in 11 minutes
EDIT: saying that, I just scored the 3 goals in 4 minutes... I didn't score 1 in any of the previous 4 attempts won 4-1 in the end ha.

Nope. Mine froze on the first day when playing a stupid manager-touchline cut scene but nothing since.

Yup mine just froze on a close-up of Capello's mug. It's frozen twice on the same match in CYC now.
Solius it seems you have problems all the time, are you sure that you are using a console not a PC?
I do have a lot of problems with it. Mainly the EA servers. Hopefully it won't freeze third time round.Since I had it freeze, I disabled the cut scenes during the game. They were only annoying anyway. Now they only do them for subs.
