You can buy the card packs through micro-transactions or you can acquire the in-game stars to buy them as well.
It's just to create a bit or parity between people who have all day to play it and those that don't.
I am ranked 756 in the world (In ultimate team), But Boothy United only have a 2.5 star rating 
I suck at this game now, went online earlier and got battered but somehow managed to knick a couple of goal to take it to extra time, which I then promptly lost in the last minute. My defence is all over the shop.

I end up playing some stupid formation just so I can play my good players. Not sure I should be doing that...
It is strange playing the Ultimate team mode - am so used to playing with good players that it feels pretty depressing to go back to 60 rated players!

So this free trial only gives you 5 games? can you get a good feel for it just from that little?

It's 7.99 and it is actually a quite interesting new mode by EA, i don't have it yet though anyway.
I played that 5-game trial and I was stuck.. didn't help that I was unbeaten with a shit team and joined a tournament where I progressed from the first stage after turning a 0-2 deficit to 3-2 win in 30 fifa minutes. Need to buy it soon

It wont let me purchase points with my credit card.
Got bored and fed up with Fifa until today when I played the Ultimate team which just kicks ass. I'm hooked, laid in bed trying to sell cards (granted shit ones) and buy in new blood etc. Just bought a silver pack of cards which was quite nice got some 70rated players.
In my trial my player got injured and red carded so he lasted 1 and a half games.
Found out was wrong with my account. Apparently if your details don't match the credit card details it doesnt let you buy points. Which is fair i suppose, if you use your parents credit card you cant just go buying points willy nilly.

Bloody thing keeps crashing this morning. I can't even get to the arena it keeps freezing up on the screen with Ronaldinho's mug on. Anyone else get this or is my game just fecked.

I know the secret is to tap the shoot button, as with the poorer players even a tiny bit too much power turns the air in the ball into helium. But sometimes hard to remember in the heat of a match!

Hes not a speed whore, but his passing is always right and his shooting is good. Got a good engine, great for a midfield linchpin - rated 79
Theres a guy called wynne who i think is rated 62, hes a right back and he is quick as hell.
Evra is the best player in the game.

He's strangely quite useful with his right foot too, as are the majority of players with high ratings for that matter.

I am in the middle of my second season on manager mode. The game keeps freezing after I play one particular match at home (Newcastle at home, February 2010). I have played this match 5 times and it won't go by the 15% mark after the match.
I presume this cannot be fixed??
