Gaming Fifa 10

:p You were doing a couple of dangerous passes around your back four yesterday. Similar to Rio against Shitty :annoyed:

Yeah, I haven't quite got the short "long passes" down yet. They were supposedly changed for FIFA10, so they were faster and more feasible. I also have all crosses and lobs on manual, which I did fairly well with on 09. It's just been a long time since I played against anyone, I need to relearn some stuff

I'll be happy for now if I can give you as much a challenge as I did in the first game.

I was terrible in that first game. My passing was so bad. You were unlucky as well, couple of goal mouth scrambles IIRC.

It is an improvement....but it's not that much of an improvement. It's eerily similar to the 'minor' updates made to PES every year that eventually saw it over taken

I don't know that it is an improvement though. Certain aspects are catastrophically worse.

Totally agree about the statement about PES though. This latest edition does feel like the 'minor' updates made to PES each year, that have now resulted in the latest version being worse than PES4.

what's your psn nimic? I'll give you a game

I'm on the 360, I'm afraid.

Yeah, my shooting was rubbish. I thought I had it figured out in the demo, but it's very different in the full game.

I'll keep on trying to score free kicks with my keeper as well :D

Do your team still scythe down the opposition constantly? That was the most annoying thing last year.

Not really. Although the main downside/difference of the FIFA 10 game for me, is the strength side. So it all takes a long time not to get pushed off the ball like a 7year old girl.

I've had no problems at all with the strength issue, which seems to be the main gripe from some people, I just shield the ball when I think I may be barged or pushed over and it works well. If I do get unfairly shoved I usually win a freekick.

What annoyed me more than anything about BAP last year was the fact that I always got set as the corner taker. And if they failed to connect with the ball, I got punished for it.

Is there anyway of turning off having your fecking name above your players when you're online? Its pissing me off, like most things on this game.

Too many fouls.
AI is shit.
Ridiculous goals.
Online mode is full of cnuts.
Graphics aren't good enough.
Full of bugs.

Yup, FIFA is great as always

I just need to know, did anyone else find the demo to be a better game than the full game? Or am I just imagining things? It seems strange, but it feels like it to me. Maybe I just need to play it more.

Yup. Played the demo, Bayern Vs Baca Wembley stadium. Then did the exact same fixture on the full game. The pitch on the demo felt far more expansive. Players felt more responsive and the game in general just felt much nicer.

I am the West Brom of Fifa10 online.

I dominate every game with beautiful passing football, get into the penalty area after a magnificent 15 pass move only for my striker to take 3 touches instead of hitting it first time like he was instructed to. Then the opposition touch the ball for only their second time, one long ball forward and my defender heads the ball the wrong way while his centre back partner is running off to Coventry because he is under AI control, their striker runs towards my last defender who attempts a tackle but he is made to look like a poodle tackling a horse because he has 2 less points on his strength stats. Now their player is one on one with my goalie, out he comes and blocks the initial shot, the ball falls near one of my retarded defenders but he can't possibly kick it away because the computer hasn't selected him for my control yet, so in comes the striker to tap in while my goalie decided that he didn't fancy getting back in goal. They don't touch the ball for the rest of the game but I can't take my 15 chances and end up losing 1-0.

 You just summarised my FIFA 09 experience

I like the whole strength aspect of the game. It makes you feel like you're watching a real football game. Alot of people might be frustrated with it, because I admit at first it might be hard to control play when 2 opposition players are always over you as soon as you recieve the ball. But that is where the 360 dribbling aspect comes in. Use it to shield the ball and release it quickly.

I think people just havent learnt the benefit of the new dribbling and first touches yet. And I'm not saying its easy, but I can think of a number of incidents where creative thinking and using the first touch and a combination of the dribbling methods in the game just took the piss out of stronger, but slightly less mobile players. The possibilities are there for breathtaking stuff but it obviously has a learning curve. And with some players I found it more difficult than I was expecting... Like Rossi. He's so weak in the game, but then again you just need to set him up for a shot on his left foot and he'll let fly with a beauty if you get it right.

As for the ratings, I can still get away from people with Rooney and Owen and Berbatov arent really slower than they should be. But aside from his closing down, yeah Fletcher is a shadow of his current self in game. Thats dissappointing.

NOw that is a concern!
I'm just wondering though is it the actual game that's flawed overall, or is it the stats of the players which are letting people down, i.e perhaps Carrick's strength is not as much as it should be, along with Rooney and Rio's pace?

I thought in the demo the pitch size was good, but was that cause it was Wembley that I played at?

Basically, is it better and more realistic than 09?

I've never played Fifa before this(always been a PES man), but this is brilliant. Its definitely much more realistic than the recent Pro Evo games, including the lates PES demo. You get shoulder barges like in real life(people might get frustrated with this, but if you know how to shield your player from opposition players, it feels great). You get defenders throwing themselves in front of the ball like real life. You can't just dribble past everyone like you can in Pro Evo. Passing the ball feels great, and you feel much more in control of how your team plays. You don't get wingers playing as fullbacks like in Pro Evo. Definitely a better game than Pro Evo.

Exactly. People seem frustrated with the whole strength aspect. But they have to realise, when an opposition player tries to win the ball back(ie. they're shoulder barging you), you can't just continue running and not expect to lose the ball.

People get frustrated because it's poorly implemented. It's also not realistic, despite claims to the contrary. Yes of course strength has a part to play in real football but THAT big a part. I'm sure Ekeke is right, once you get better it's less frustrating, but it's just a bad element of the game if you ask me.

If thats your opinion then fair enough, by and large it hasnt bothered me except when I feel like certain players werent quite given the right stats to play their part in the physical contests. For United that would be Fletcher, with balance 74 and strength 77 I feel like they've served up his physical properties of a few years ago when he did get pushed around now and again. By and large these days he's the pusher and not so much the pushed. And I can edit that and probably will edit that in a while, but for now its time to play with the original stats.
On the other hand, players like Giggs... With all the options available now to maneouvre your player, I feel like they got him completely right. I dont think I've ever lost out with him in a physical battle as when I get it with him I look to dribble and push the ball past players before they have too much chance to get in the way. Some of the little pieces you can do with him are just classic Giggs.

The little responsive touches and the 360 dribbling is a good aid for that. That way you can be Giggsy the matador. Classic, as you say.

I actually found that physique was never a big question with Fletcher, because I managed to steer him quite nimbly to create space for him against Arsenal. That might have been a one-off game, mind.

Here's one thing that I find a bit silly. The Man of the Match. Always wrong?

Usually I get someone who's been ineffectual, like a centreback who really hasn't done much, but who got a simple pass right each time. *shrug* Berbatov scores a hattrick against Arsenal and is generally in fine form and Vidic gets MOTM.

Anyone up for a game or two? Live nick is Nemmic, as always.

Again, I don't have a mic. Also, I use the monitor for both the console and the computer, so I won't be watching the Caf when we're playing :p

Berbatov always seems to be man of the match for me. Not sure thats realistic, but I think its something to do with him having a high response rating... 91. So if you put a ball into the box or there's a loose ball, he is often the one to jump on it and put it in the net. I dont think thats particularly correct but oh well, I dont know a football game without dodgy stats and by and large they got most of the stats for our players right, including Berbatov bar that one I'd say.

But yes I do feel Fletcher is slightly devalued in the game, not just his strength but I'm not sure they gave him full value on his ability to pass a ball and be involved in the passing movements either. Vision at 74 is obviously a bit low. And Rio is a bit slow, but I assume thats because of his injury last season. They probably didnt want to make him ridiculously good when they couldnt be sure he'd be back to his best, without losing a yard and so on. Not that they made Evans better to compensate for that, like you might expect...

I felt the same about Rio, but we've seen evidence to corroborate that so far this season, I'm afraid. Weird Evans wouldn't get a boost after a season where he proved himself in the Champions League as well :\

Fletch having low vision rating and whatnot must mean I've been a bit lucky. I've had him hit through balls to the left wing with his left foot, making its way past three defenders and in perfect distance between the keeper and the winger. I've had a few more passes like that too with him, but come to think of it I got the lion's share of those in that one good game so *shrug*

Berbatov is mr through ball for me, especially chipped ones.

I notice the keeper coming out when you don't want him to as well, that needs to be fixed quickly.

I've heard that if you double-tap the triangle button he will go back/stay on his line. If you hold Triangle he comes off his line.

I tried this in the arena mode and it seems to work I think - although maybe it was coincidence!

Will try again later.

Berbatov is Mr. Finesse shot for me ;) If I get him in and around the area, ball to feet, I just create a bit of room and look to place my shot with him. A corner tends to be worst case scenario as long as the shot gets past the defender's lunging challenge.

While they've made the finesse shots more difficult to score from this time, I cant help but feel that with a few players - tends to be midfielders, like Carrick, it can be hard to get a decent effort in using it. You try and bend one a bit like his goal the other day and it tends to go wide or have bad contact. Oh well.
