Fernando Reges "The Octopus"

Heard he's been poor for Monaco..

I hardly believe it's the best place for him anyway. I'm still surprised by it, gotta ask the French posters for a bit of more context. Moutinho was a sublime player for several years, I don't think some bad 6 months at a plastic club built over a knee can undermine his undeniable quality.

He's been linked to us a lot recently. Judging by Arruda's reviews I hope we give this one a miss.

Agree, it is difficult to guage a player performance in a relatively poor league, he should be playing for one of the big teams in the CL.

A 27 year old at his peak is too old?

I reckon there might be better players about, but I've always sold Moutinho here and he'd improve your midfield massively, that's about it. Surely will be too expensive, but then again I don't know what's going on at Monaco and what are their plans for the future. I wouldn't be overly surprised if it all falls down like a deck of cards relatively soon.

I'd have him. Seems like the type of player we need. We miss that Keane-type of crunch in midfield.

I dont think we need an offensive midfielder

I didn't mean an 'offensive midfielder', more a 'creative' midfielder. Fernando doesn't have any guile. He can't beat a man and his passing is limited. We need a player who can beat a man in the centre, and pass the ball forwards effectively to the attacking players. Scholes basically, ideally with the added ability to beat a man.

A player like Thiago, Kroos, Gundogan or my boy Kovacic would do nicely.

I haven't watched him much. But Arruda and Brwned's reviews make me wish we pass on this one.

The newbie (sly) post that KM quoted on the earlier page is an excellent assessment of Fernando as well.

Your muppet crush! ;)

Those slide tackles make me erect.

fecking ridiculous to have given Mata the number 8 shirt when we should have given it to the Octopus.

If we want to play Januzaj, Mata, Rooney and RVP in attack at any point this season then we need energetic midfielders that are good in the tackle. He sounds and looks as though he ticks that box.

A lot of people seem keen to see us throw these players together but, at the moment, I'd be fearful that we'd get picked off for fun on the break. That's why Valencia has become such a prominent figure in our team recently. His defensive ability means that we can carry a fairly immobile CM as him tracking back gives them less space to cover.

Going to City, according to Portuguese SportTV.

What? They dont even need another midfielder. Also they just annouced a £51m loss for the year. Thats almost £150m in two years.

His contract ends in June, he's going for peanuts.

Which is why its baffling why we are not interested.

Watch this guy turn up at city and be a revelation

Valencia is not good defensively.

They're a far superior team and pay more money, it's a non brainer in fairness. These player's have enough confidence in themselves to think they can break into a team that's signing them.

Another midfielder that would improve us passes us by.

Still think he should have a go at getting Matuidi

We're noway near the current level of City. How can you argue otherwise?

I'm not even wasting my time on an argument so I'm not arguing otherwise. The point is that all this forum seems to be nowadays is everybody praising every other team and completely shitting on our own team like we're some pub side. City aren't fecking superior, you're acting like they're some mixture of classic Barca and current Bayern while we're Scunthorpe. City have been better than us this season, forgetting to take into account the massive changes we're currently going through which has basically unsettled the entire squad. They're performing better, they aren't a far superior team.

We should stop playing like a pub side then. They clearly have the better team and squad, anyone objective would say so
