Fergie to let Rooney go?

I would take £60m for Rooney in a heartbeat in most circumstances, but I'm not entirely confident that Fergie would re-invest it in a way that gives equal or higher impact than Rooney himself.

£60 million my arse.....for a player who goes missing for a third of every season, who you never know is going to be world class or emile hesky from game to game and who is constantly letting off the field shit affect his form, we would be lucky to get thirty.

No because 60m wouldn't buy a player of Rooney's quality. If Carroll is worth £35m, he must be worth at least 120m.

You can not use carrolls transfer as any sort of benchmark, because if you do the fat bloke off the go compare adds is worth forty million.

The thing is, who would buy Rooney? Rooney is a player who does not have the ability to play in a league such as La Liga IMO. I think his best attributes are solely adapted perfectly for the Premier League. I don't think any foreign club would think he is worth anything over £40m at very most, except a novelty purchase such as PSG or Anzi, where I doubt Wayne would want to play.

I think City could do without Rooney if I'm honest, they don't really need him as such. Equally with Chelsea, it seems like AVB is championing better quality football at Chelsea than traditional British 'up and at 'em' style. Rooney really wouldn't fit into AVB's plans at all.

I don't see any team in the world who could afford what we would value him at, and for that price a player like Rooney is far far far too big a risk to introduce to a new league IMO.

Can't sell him he's quite simply the best player in the league IMHO we should be looking to strengthen not weaken end off story!!

We're not going to sell him and if we do it won't be to City.

Respect your opinion, I think for a team like us he is the best player in the league, however that doesn't necessarily make him the best player in the league because teams like Arsenal and now City are starting to play more technically advanced football than we do - where a player like Silva would be considered the best player in the league over someone like Rooney. As it stands, United play a way that suits Rooney and makes him arguably 'the best' but only really from our perspective.

There is a logic in that statement somewhere.. I hope I made it easy to understand.

I thought City wanted to meet FFP regulations?

One thing to pay £60m, another to reduce their wage bills which is bigger than the turnover. It's a story going nowhere.

Players transfer values don't translate just on ability. There's too many variables between the selling club, the buying club and the player to start comparing the prices of players solely on ability. There is no common ground to draw these conclusions.

Hi fergieisold. I'm afraid I am no mystic, I just report what I know or what I can derive from what I hear and see. At the moment I haven't developed an opinion on the summers transfer activities but there will be a number of parallel strategies in place. Alec and the club are very keen to bring through the young players and not block their development however there are a few concerns developing, particularly around the attitude of some of the youngsters (I do not want to name names) and also the character and quality of the senior players to enable a seamless transition. The club are currently weighing up whether they do need to spend big to ensure sustained success in the short term or whether to stick with the current strategy in developing the youth, with perhaps some more experienced players coming in to stop the gap short term (hence the interest in lampard).
Whilst it is going too far to suggest the club is in crisis this is one of the very few times when the boss is uncertain as to the way forward, he needs Rooney to step up and lead the team, but if he can't do that then he will be moved on.

I will let you know as soon as there are any significant developments. This is probably the wrong thread for this kind of talk, feel free to pm me or perhaps set up a thread specifically for this kind of thing and when you post in it I will get an email and will come to the thread as soon as possible. I look forward to hearing from you.

 this brilliant, all we need is a friendly tramp predictions thread!

Sell him. Robson was 1.5 million, Irwin was 750000 and Cantona was 1.2 million. Robson is GOD and if we could get him for 1.5 then Rooney is worth about 10p. Last year might still have an affect on me opinions but feck it. The scouser will never be a hero of mine. 60 million pounds ha ha ha. Sell sell sell ffs

This is my favourite part. Maybe we should go all out and have someone do up a bat signal with the picture of some type of friendly tramp?

For transfer emergencies only, naturally.

Anyone who still holds a grudge against Rooney for seeking a new contract is a childish moron. And anyone who actually wants Rooney to be sold after nearly eight years of fantastic service is a scumbag who doesn't deserve to support the club.

I don't like ganging up on posters, except Uppercunt, but that's a cracker of a line!

Nor do I, but when the guy's an obvious bullshitter then, well, he kind of has it coming.

He's come up with nothing apart from derivative info that he passes off as his own.

feckin' bully.

Didn't the Glazers promise Rooney the world class players would be bought last year?

Is this the reason why Rooney isn't happy or is it simply a bust up with SAF?

:wenger:

Yes, anyone who wants a player who is inconsistent, not loyal, tried to hold the club to ransom and who is generally completely unprofessional is a moron.

There is definitely no grey area there whatsoever.

Grow up.

Who was it in the really old thread about Rooney nearly ten years ago when he was braking through at Everton who was angry that the media were linking him with Man United?

I recall it being bumped 18 months ago or so, comedy gold.

60m and sell him to city, just feck off. :wenger:

Words of wisdom from days gone by, take a bow gentlemen.

feck!!

Surely not the fat bastard?

Overated !!

£25 million for Rooney??, thats the most stupid quote I have seen for a long time. The fat slob is not worth more than £10mil and that is with all the hype around him.

I kinda agree.

I'd rather we spend (that's if we've got £25m) on either VDV or Joaquin and a good defender.

We wouldn't sell an over the hill Heinze to Liverpool, why would we sell Rooney to City?

Hindsight can make many look foolish. I remember paying out on a bet after Scott Minto didn't become England's first choice left back.

I was convinced that Robben would be world player of the year within five years when he came to Chelsea.

I think what makes it epic is that they were so 'strong in their views' about it.
