Fellaini

I thought the entire midfield was poor in possession, I wouldn't say Witsel was much better. That was my impression at least, I was watching in an extremely crowded hangar (Cristiano_RAFC: Park Spoor Noord :D) and it's not always easy to see who's who between Fellaini and Witsel. Serbia did surprisingly well to close them down. Anyway, delighted he scored what turned out to be the winner. That header was almost to easy, no one could get anywhere near challenging him.

Agreed about the midfield being poor in possession yesterday. Witsel was a little better than Fellaini, but it was only after Dembele was on the pitch that the ball retention improved for a while. After De Bruyne was replaced and we had both Benteke and Lukaku together on the pitch, it got worse again it seemed. Of course they also scored not much later which didn't help either, and it was just hanging in there until the final whistle from then on.

Fellaini's goal was classic Fellaini. :) He's always going to be a threat in the air and it's a great weapon to have.

I didn't know they were showing the game anywhere in public in Antwerp?! I heard on the news they would not be showing it on the Grote Markt out of fear for trouble. Nice venue though.. Park Spoor Noord. :)

Yeah I thought it was a mistake introducing Lukaku and keeping Benteke on. If you're chasing the game or cruising then fine, but yesterday that move gifted them the midfield and made for a tense ending. Dembélé should always start for me.

They often show games in the Cargo in Park Spoor Noord. Not as big a screen as on the Grote Markt but a far better atmosphere. The place was just so packed it was difficult to get a good view of the screen. But it was as good an atmosphere as you can get outside of the stadium. The chanting was deafening all game long. :D

Can be the new Vieira according to Ray Parlour, who also wants Arsenal to spend £100 million. In other Arsenal related news, Merson is back on the sauce insisting Arsenal shouldnt want Nani because he doesn't start for United.

Is it a smokescreen for the Higuain (or somebody else) signing, you think?

I think we'll probably get Higuain, and then go for someone a little more low key in defensive midfield. If we have £23m to spend, I really don't believe he'll throw that all on Fellaini. It's just not realistic, surely?

General consensus is that Kenwright is trying to auction him off. Most of us want to keep him but as you'd expect we'd happily take the £20 million as it will hopefully be best for the squad.

I feel that those claiming he's not very good are wide of the mark, but I really don't believe he's a £23m player.
Arse are usually not so fickle when they buy players for considerable sum. I call bullshit.

I think the problem is that what's potentially inflated his worth is his goals from a position that a top club wouldn't really use him for. I don't think United would use him as a number 10, nor do I think Arsenal would when you have wilshere and carzola. He could offer something from a deeper role but his performances there aren't whats dictating his transfer price imo and personally I don't think he's played a deeper role enough in the past two seasons to justify that sort of outlay.

I thought at one time we would have been happy if we'd started the season with Fellani in midfield.

Regardless of which top club he goes to this summer, I think he'll prove most of this forum very wrong. Top quality defensive midfielder, the kind of player who will contribute massively to winning a league campaign imo.

He'll not do that at Arsenal.

I don't think he's as bad as people make out, would give them a presence and inject some personality into their midfield. Tell you what though, if Wenger gets in Rooney, Higuain.. a CB and a decent wideplayer that has a brain, they'll leave Liverpool and Spurs quite far behind.

At least they're trying to sign players, unlike our lot who are going on donkey rides & throwing beach balls to each other while Sir Alex's empire crumbles into oblivion!1!

Enough of the Rooney shite already.

 Good point. I would take him here (though I'd rather Cabaye or Strootman) but I think he'd be best suited to Chelsea. Very much the kind of player Mourinho likes to have in a central two, win the ball back and have the passing competency to get it to Mata/Hazard/Oscar etc, while chipping in with a few goals and providing a physical presence.

He'd be a last resort for me, like an ugly bird at 2am.

I'd take almost every player we've been linked with ahead of him.
