Fellaini to West Ham?

Oh please. Lets not make this up again.
Time and time again, it has been proved that , Fellaini , if rightly used is a great option to have. Jose has been using him rightly as well.

Jose wants him to stay for his unique qualities. Fellaini wants to leave for new challenge after all the slacks he received in the last 3 years. Ed doesnt want to pay that much money for a backup optiom.

Everyone is right unfortunately and its a win win situation for atleast 2 of them whether he stays or leaves.

I like Fellaini and would be glad for him to stay (though I wouldn't be that bothered if he did leave).

But come on, it's not what a Utd manager should be spending a transfer window doing!

Guardiola's spending the window thinking about how to fit Sanchez into his team while Mourinho's stuck trying to persuade Fellaini not to leave...

No, Hererra should always start ahead of him as plan A, and it is great to have Fellaini as plan B.
If Fellaini is playing better than Herrera (which was the case this season before Fellaini's injury), then of course he should be playing ahead of him. Nobody has the right to be first choice regardless of poor form, with the possibly exception of Pogba but even that's largely because we have no other option for his role. I prefer Fellaini as a plan B and I'd like him to continue to fill that role going forward, but if he deserves to be first choice then so be it. I say 'first choice' but I'm including being the preferred sub off the bench in cases where neither are starting, as well as being preferred in a starting role.

Also, the last two games Herrera was in top form, especially in a 4-3-3 formation. If you can't see that then there is nothing much to discuss.
He was certainly a hell of a lot better, but it still wasn't 'top' form. Maybe against Derby (and it has to be said it was 'only' Derby), but against Everton he was only 'fairly good'. He's capable of better than that, and hopefully the improvement continues and he reaches those levels. But even if he only maintains the level he's shown lately then at least he becomes a good option again, as opposed to how poorly he was playing earlier in the season.

I'd be glad to see the back of Fellaini. Overall, we'll be a better team without him.

He has been good under Mourinho... we need to keep him AND add midfielders.

I can't see him going there whatsoever. He seems to think he's a top-tier player, either salary-wise or status wise. He either signs for someone unexpected with a big name in Europe or goes to China, but my honest opinion? We will end up paying him £150k a week to be nuisance off the bench like total mugs.

Fellaini is looking for the big bucks you'd assume

he's turned down our offer of a contract and if he wants the pay hike he will get it two ways

a) we relent and meet him in the middle

b) he sees out his contract meaning there is no transfer fee and maximum cash for him

unless you think he is 'looking for a new challenge' or more regular football

Poor that we have let his contract get to this stage. He has proven to be useful under Mourinho and losing a centre midfielder for nothing leaves another hole in the squad to fill and transfer funds to be be spent just to stand still in terms of squad depth.

This is how I feel as well. Fellaini is a very useful midfield option to have and you just know we'll get quoted exorbitant prices for any replacement of similar or (hopefully) better quality. Since we're already short of options for quite a few positions in the starting XI, I don't see us spending enough to get top quality payers in for every position. Fellaini's not world class perhaps, but IMO he would've been fine for a couple of years more.

I'd say it's less important if Mourinho wants to play a 2 man midfield in the future but if we're moving to using a 4-3-3 more often he's needed.

I'd be glad to see the back of Fellaini.

Here you go.

Why are some United fans being all touchy over Fellaini leaving? If truth told, most never appreciated him anyway. Been treated quite discrasefully by most.

At least when he goes, the polemic Fellaini threads won't exist anymore. I mean, he's become massively overrated by some on here over the past year or so. Still underrated by some, mind, as he's an ok option at times and probably a better footballer than some give him credit for. Some just never took to him and to be honest, that's completely understandable.

I have never been a fan and wasn't a fan when he was at Everton either. Still though, since Mourinho has come in, I have started to appreciate him a-bit more but I feel it's probably best if he moved on at this stage.

He gave us another option when we were losing, which is putting him up front and bombing long balls up there.

But to be honest, I never really liked it when we did that. If we are a goal down with a few minutes to go, we should be pushing forward, camping in their box and trying to open up the goal with constant pressure.

Having the long ball play with Fellaini really didn’t work out that often, and doesn’t suit most of the rest of our team and tactics.

For that reason, if he does go for decent money and we get a decent replacement, or it gives another current midfielder (or perhaps TFM in the long run) more of a chance, then I’m all for it too.

Kudos for him putting up with all the grief directed at him from his fans, but hey, what else could the guy do?

We are short options in midfield as it is. I do not like the idea of losing one of our better squad players especially when you consider the price to replace him. Hope he stays until the summer at least

He's no loss. He really doesn't add anything to our team or squad.

I cannot believe there are utd fans desperate for him to stay. It blows my mind.

He has rejected our contract, ship him off. End of

but we have to replace him anyway
Right, so lets replace him with a decent footballer that isnt just there to punt long balls into. There are vastly better midfielders out there who we should be getting and not begging him to stay.

If he leaves I have no problem with that.. If he stays I am ok with that as well..

No chance that Mourinho will get rid off him. He considers him a really important player for our squad and I think the same.
When we are struggling to score, a man like him can score from nowhere.

Keep him.

When we are begging a player (who no other top team would consider) to stay, it shows how much our standards have fallen

Well is the point not that it's out of the clubs hands if he wants a new challenge etc?

He is a decent footballer. He isn’t there to just punt long balls into. Replacing him will cost us money which takes away from our budget. Mourinho wants to keep him for a reason.

I hope he leaves in the summer because that means we'll have to go all out on a replacement. We can do way better and whatever wages Fellani is asking for, he's not worth it.

You can't keep players just to preserve a budget. What kind of messed up way to run a business is that?

Boss: "We want you to stay. Will you sign a new contract?"
Fellani: "I want to be paid more than you're offering and I want to start more games"
Boss: "Well we don't want to waste budget on new players, so why not"
Fellani: "Great! See you in August when I'm fully fit again"

Well, yes, Mourinho does want him to stay but it looks as though Fellaini fancies something new so he'll most likely be off and we'll have to get someone in...

He gives us options. I would like him to stay. Especially without Zlatan, we seem to lose some aerial power. Both in attack and defence.
