Perreira/Blind/TFM as backups. The first untried (really), second and third unfancied by Mou in that position.
He has done a good job for us recently. But I never think of him as a starter unless we have injuries.
If he stays, I have no complaints.
But we would still need a solid DM.
I see Perreira/TFM and Tuanzebe as good back ups. Not Blind though. Don't think Mourinho sees him as anything other than CB or LB.
Yeah he can do a job in midfield, better than some other fringe options we have for sure. Like you say Mou doesn't fancy Blind there (nor TFM from what I've seen) so we'd have 4 first team midfielders for three slots over 50+ games!
But ultimately he isn't good enough, so if we do sell, fine. But hopefully we get a decent fee (far north of £10m) as he will need replacing.

We bought him for 27m (4m higher than release clause originally). He's 4 years older, hasn't performed well during the whole of his time here, and has 1 year left on his contract.
10m is a fair price.

It would be if the market hadn't gone hyper. We can't get anyone for £10m.
With our current midfield stocks, I really don't understand why we are selling him. He may not be a fan favourite, but he has generally performed well in recent times, and offers something very different to our other midfielders. For 10m I wouldn't sell him, particularly with how few players we have in his position.
If he goes (probably likely) then he can with his head held high. Showed great character throughout his United career, despite encountering more opposition and vitriol from fans and supporters than any other player (and far more than he deserved).
The point is we don't want him here. You can't command top price for a reject. His wage is substantial as well (in the 120k region iirc), so getting that off our book is also helpful, considering his bit-part status.
We could try to squeeze a bit more out if a PL side wants him, but evidently none does.
I would very, VERY happily replace Fellaini with Dendoncker and also get Matic in.
Galatasaray are offering him a 5 year contract apparently, not usual for a 29 year old. Pepe left Real for Besiktas because they offered him one year instead of two.
The only reason this sale could have been sanctioned is if we've got a replacement lined up. Sad to see the Afroman go but excited to see who his successor will be.

As I said, I'm no Fellaini fan, but we need bodies in MF and Mou has shown he doesn't like Blind there (and hasn't given TFM a shot there). So now we need to buy two? And we won't get anyone for £10m, let alone anyonebetter than Fella.
It is indeed strange to let Maroune go before signing additional reinforcements. Even if we have confidence in signing someone, it is still not guaranteed until we have them signed. Strange indeed.
Presumably we have players lined up, otherwise we would probably have kept him.
Even then though, I think we are barely any worse off than last year even if no one is brought in and he goes. Both Herrera and Pogba can play as no.6 (albeit in Pogba's case it'll be as a deep playmaker), we have Perreira in the team and McTominay can do with some experience if Jose trusts him enough. If we fail to bring in midfielders the quality of our team will suffer regardless of Fellaini's presence.
I agree with the premise, but Mou has shown faith in Fella, so it seems he trusts him to play at least some part (and therefore, by extension, he doesn't trust the youth to step up). I really don't rate him at DMF, which is his easiest route the first team, so I do hope we switch him for someone better. But if he does leave we need to replace the numbers IMO.
I mean, I'd love it if a youth made the step up - but DMF is a key area next season.

Never rated him and bashed him at every single opportunity but the guy gave everything on field. I can say he was one of the few guys who really played for the badge on his chest. Good luck for his future (if he moves on).

Point being we've not signed any midfielders all summer. Yet people seem ecstatically happy about letting Fellini go. Was a very useful player last season, saddens me that it's generally ignored and the old, well if we sign x player they'll immediately be a better player.
He is a 29 year old, whose on a 1 year contract and whose not very good in playing football. I think its a fair fee for the Belgian answer to Vinnie Jones
In a squad of 25 he can be an useful player, selling him for 10 million after have signed him for 35 is a monstrosity, amateurish

Plus it's World Cup year, he needs to be playing regularly to be certain of his place in Russia.
