Fantasy Premier League 22/23

I know he's been on fire in preseason and I think he's probably a good bet to start with, but I think Darwin will outscore him when he gets going. I've never played fantasy football beyond about four weeks, but this year I've got more riding on it. Is it a good idea to have a stringer squad or starting 11?
 I used to give up around new years. Hopefully this time it'll be differnt, esp with the free wildcard.

I think it's definitely best to think of alternates or exit strategies this year, have a feeling its gonna be crazy.

Really hope people suddenly jump on Darwin Nunez. Not convinced by him at all, especially when teams figure out how to nullify him by suffocating him when in possession.

I have taken out Haaland for Kane. The reason is I don't see myself captaining Haaland GW2 against Bournemouth cause Liverpool is at home to Crystal Palace. First game at home in Anfield and I am not betting against Salah. GW3 Pool are away to United and City are away to Newcastle but Spurs are home to Wolves. I might captain Kane GW 1 and 3. By this time I should have a better sense of where Haaland is at. I do have 0.5 in the bank so if anything I can switch from Kane to Haaland.

Yeah that's been one of the reasons for me as well. A lot of energy on City GW2 captaincy but if their attack as usual looks like anyone can score and on the other hand you have Salah who likely gets off to a good start vs Fulham and is basically always a captaincy option at home vs anyone, there's a good chance majority will just captain Salah. You want stuff like nailed for 90 mins, pens etc for captaincy and I'm not sure we will get that surety with Haaland in one GW.

If something extreme happens like Haaland scoring a hat trick vs WHU and you really have to get him, just swap him in for Kane. City play on Sunday, so his price won't rise till Monday at least, giving you enough time to decide.

Yeah and now the confusion for GW1 captain cause until now Salah was a lock. Now that I have Kane I am not sure.

Scott Parker's been complaining about how Bournemouth aren't ready for the league, are defensively short and need new signings. They got Villa, City, Arsenal and Liverpool first up. Could be a good team to target.

When you watch the match yesterday, it’s so easy to just keep jumping around on the new toys. All the headlines were about Darwin, but if the match yesterday showed anything, it’s how good Robertson is, at 2 million less.

I have circled back completely to big at the back again. I can’t justify paying an extra 2 million for Darwin. He would have to have a full 12 million premium season to outpoint Robertson per million. It just doesn’t make sense for 2 million extra.

I hate the way 5 at the back looks in the tactic screen but there are 200 points players available for 7 million. I want them all.

I agree with you. In the long run Robertson will not win you FPL, but it is steady points most weeks.

To win it you need to nail the overperforming cheaper picks in def that could backfire like Matip last year, Livramento etc and then go heavy on big hitters up front.

Yeah, I get the appeal of a new #9 at Liverpool but the cost is losing one of the most consistent and nailed assets, who anyway still got an assist yesterday and was bombing forward like crazy.

Similarly Trent looked sensational especially in the first half, these two guys just go forward like attacking midfielders and want to do everything. It's FPL gold, just take it and run.

Just the doubt regarding Allison's fitness not that Fulham or Palace are gonna really trouble them.

I have no idea what I'm doing anymore. I want all the players. Anyone know what's up with Sancho? Will he start GW1?

Just a couple of things to consider Salah has never scored in GW2 and also Palace last season were 4th for expected goals against

They were much better at home though, and not that good away from home. Season opener at Anfield there won't be that big an issue going for him.

By the way Spurs play Forest in GW4, are people okay to go into that game without Kane or Son?

Yeah, you can definitely look at it like that. But if you are playing it as a game of maximizing value and getting the most points, which it is, it doesn’t make sense to turn down a certain 200 for a possible 200 who is 2 million more expensive.

You give yourself a far better platform to get the budget picks right, if you have the correct platform. Taking away the solid base to chase new assets isn’t the way to go.

I just love the fact that they remain “alive”, you know? If you scrimp on them and go for Dias/Laporte and West Ham score in the first ten minutes, your afternoon is over.

With Trent and Robertson, even if Fulham score early, they stay alive the whole game and can still get your nice returns.

Like I said above, I don’t think they will win you FPL, but they are certainly the best platform to create a team from.

Yeah I don’t look at what week he has scored. That’s just bogus stats. And did you see the way Liverpool played against the best defense in the league yesterday? He may not score a hat trick but I ll take a goal and a assist.

Some advice as I finalize things…

Would people prefer to go for

4.5GK and Bailey as a 12th man for rotation

or

5.0GK and fodder.

I was almost decided on Ramsdale, but I am wondering if Raya is a better keeper anyway? Bailey could be so useful to have as a bench option and his value could soar with early returns.

He might give me 0.6 back by the time his fixtures turn.

Thoughts?

Is Raya absolutely nailed? Who's that new goalkeeper that Brentford bought? Backup?

He has started every single pre-season game, so I don’t think there are any worries there. I think, from what I read, that they brought in a second keeper of a similar profile because they dipped so much after they lost Raya last year.

I think they see him as one of their star players.

Jesus is an absolutely unmissable starting player. Great price point, will start, and Arsenal have great fixtures.
He's in about 70% of teams so far, for good reason!

You want to cover Arsenal by having at least one defender or keeper. So if you don’t have an Arsenal defender get Ramsdale. Raya has a tougher schedule than Arsenal.

Cool. Might have to consider him myself then.

I have swapped Diaz and Martial for Robertson and Sancho. Never been convinced about Diaz. Still don't know the latest with Sa who is my first choice, but with Lage experimenting with a back four, I'm not as keen.

Currently
Ramsdale
TAA Robbo Cancelo Trippier
Salah Sancho Martinelli Neto
Kane Jesus

Very likely the team I go with. Salah captain.

Draft no 67

Allisson
Sanchez

TAA
Cancelo
Perisic
Dalot
N. Williams

Salah
Sancho
Almiron
Bailey
Andreas

Kane
Jesus
Martial

Don't expect martial to be a long term fixture. More of a see how it goes then transfer out pretty soon

Yeah, looking at the fixtures again has changed my mind, I'm all in on arsenal to start with.

Meanwhile....

We've got an extra WC chip this year (for the World Cup) so you can use all your transfers (instead of keeping 1 in reserve) knowing you have chunky chips galore.

Thanks! Just would be nice to have a decent option to come on, but yeah, Ramsdale could be more sensible.

Cool. Might have to consider him myself then.

I think he is the best keeper at 4.5, and fixtures are very nice after their first couple.

Is anyone locked in with Darwin to cover Salah?

It could be a stroke of genius. Surely Klopp throws him into it against a 34 year old Tim Ream who has never looked good enough for the league?

Salah is so safe, but it just feels so boring…

You could set up in a way that would mean you could have three Liverpool for Fulham, then Cancelo/de Bruyne/Haaland for Bournemouth.

Havent stopped tinkering since the Charity Shield and will continue through the week.
Zaha has been great in pre-season and takes penalties but tough fixtures at the start. But he can pop up with a goal or assist any time.
I love Son in FPL. Did have him in but leaves me with Jesus + 2 x 4m strikers which ties my hands a bit too much.
Martinelli could be an option for Saka which gives me £2m.
Raya
Walker Perisic Robertson
Saka Zaha Salah (c) Neto Mount
Jesus Kane (v)

Subs: Dunk, Patterson, Archer.

Salah could score a hat-trick v Fulham and you're miles behind in week 1.
Thats the risk.

I really wouldn’t go for Zaha early doors. His goals came against the likes of Gillingham and he has Arsenal, Liverpool and City in his first 4.

He, along with Palace defenders, are definitely options for further on though.

Sanchez
TAA - James - Trippier - Perisic
Salah - Mount - Martinelli - Diaz
Jesus - Kane

More vanilla than Van Winkle, but it'll do

It’s hard not to be vanilla this year. The prices mean that everyone is picking from the same small pool of players. Such low variation between teams.
