Fantasy hockey 09/10

That is the art of fantasy hockey, and that's why im damn near perfect so far.

This is seriously my strongest ever fantasy team, simply because I did what Iron Stove neglected to: put thought into it.

Not alot of people are touching some of my teams numbers, i'm a force if my team stays healthy.

Whoa whoa, don't be too in love with your team there. ;) I lost last week and would have drawn against you, so I can name you two teams that would have matched you easily enough.

Getting cocky already I see ;) You've had a nice start, but don't forget that the team you beat was the one that took two d-men in the first two rounds due to auto-draft.

 Lads i'm just fooling around, although I stand by my "fact" that my team is my strongest and deepest fantasy team since my NFL fantasy squad 3 years ago.

Anyone up for some Huet? No?

Ok
Wow, I just seen that. Feel so bad for you brother.

Is Anderson Searl smurf de montreal?

If you sub a player on when he has a game for a better player that doesn't play that evening.. does it matter? I mean, is performance counted in each round of is just a night by night thing so that you can be smart and bench a player that doesn't have a game for one that does that night just too boost your stats.

Because that's what I've been doing lately. And it seems to work. Or is there a limit to line changes?

I hope you get what I mean by this.

You can make as many changes you want to your lineup on a daily basis. You play the players that are playing that night and you bench those that aren't playing. The only limits that are placed are on adding players and dropping players from your roster. Hope this helps.

Cheers mate.. That's pretty much what I thought. It really is important to not miss making your substitutions.

I hope everyone realises that this is the only reason why I'm not on top of the table right now ;)

And the opposite for me, except im in a dog fight now.

got an active sunday on my team so im confident in a result.

Hey Anderson, Kesler's available again if you want him  I'm just too indecisive here..

I took a risk and went for Viktor Stålberg instead.. He just looks phenomenal.. Great skater, good hands, nice shot, strong on the forecheck.. Started on the 1st line and got 1st line PP time and did some PK as well yesterday.

Then again he could be sent down too.

Well, that worked out well  I should probably scratch "professional scouting" from my list of possible careers. Seriously though Stålberg is big, aggressive, skates like the wind, but doesn't seem to have the best hands. He could still improve, but he's sent down to the Marlies for now after managing only two assists all season.

I changed Stålberg for O'Reilly who got one game with the Iron Stoves, only to be replaced when I noticed McDonald was free. You can't be slacking when you play for the Stoves. This move will make my team invincible and soon you'll all just be small disappearing dots in my rear view mirror as I race away with the title.

:D

I'm beginning to think my team is cursed. I probably shouldn't do too many moves anyhow. First Stålberg has an incredible pre-season and as soon as I put him on my team he completely quits scoring. Then the same night I exchange Stålberg for Andy McDonald he does this:

Wonder if he's okay. That looked brutal.

Yeah, he's a good player but has no doubt had a lot of injuries. That one is a freak injury though. I guess some guys are just more unlucky than others. Seems like he'll be back soon.

fecking injuries are kicking my ass

Lucic, Pavelski, Malkin, Toews, Kennedy & Savard, all hurt

Still not too bad, got a 66% record, but it's quite frustrating

Well I'm certainly pleased with my teams start to the season, top of the league. Shame my fantasy football team is bottom of the cafe's league... Mind you being top here sure does make up for that though...

Just a reminder - read the rules!

My opponent last week thought himself on to a winner by benching all his goalies for the week after his first one going got a shutout!

Doh.

Minimum games requirement is 3.

Haha.. Didn't know that. I was wondering why I just won all the goalie categories with horrible numbers against the guy with both Luongo and Brodeur.

Oh that one. You wrote "minimum" which had me confused. As if we were being forced to move players ;) I don't like the rule you're referring to either.

I made a bunch of moves today. Antropov got about 5 minutes on my team

Antropov was on my team too to start the year... dropped him for my buddy Vorachek (He is actually A friend of mine)

I'm confident with my team now that Pavelski and Toews are back

I'd be open to trading any of my goalies if someone's looking. Need forwards.

I actually took Lucic instead. Another one you dropped. I figured he'll start to produce points soon. Will at least help me get some much needed PIMs.

I also let Hedman go, that was hard but I was favouring him too much. I'm watching a lot of Tampa games and he's doing very well getting 25 mins a game, but he only has four points this season. I have a feeling this might come back to haunt me.

I'm a big fan of Voracek btw. Where do you meet all these NHL guys? Some shady poker club again? ;)

I'm looking for a goalie, but there's only one on your team I'd want and I have a feeling you wouldn't like to let him go. :D

Sadly, I might have to consider it. I'll listen to any offers for him if you're interested.

Tbh, I have a hard time figuring something out. I really like my forward depth and would probably just regret doing the trade since I doubt I'll be able to get you to take something like Smyth (8+12) + Gionta (7+4) in return.

Do you have any suggestions?

 No no no, the Halifax Mooseheads have been a quality producer of good young talent over the years, he played 2 seasons here.

Oh I see... Do you follow CHL hockey? Seems like there's a huge following of youth hockey in Canada. Even though I despise you guys in international competition, I really admire the passion for the sport. No other place comes close in that regard. There's a player I'm very high on called Gabriel Landeskog who went from my team Djurgården to the Kitchener Rangers this season (damn!).. I realise they aren't in the same division as Halifax, but this kid will be something else I tell you. Has been described as the best prospect to come through the ranks at Djurgården since Sundin. 2011 draft eligible and already played three games in the SEL last year. Plays a very NA style of hockey while racking up points for the national youth sides.

Here's a clip of him sticking up for his team-mate against a much bigger and older guy in one of his first games for the Rangers as a 16 year old.

I kind of went off on one there, but I'm telling you this kid will be a star in the NHL one day.

What a small word of thought, I was just talking to a guy from Ottawa about this kid and he says he's got it all.

I do follow CHL, the QMJHL is the division the mooseheads play in, they suck this year though so no season tickets.

We broke the bank to get this kid named Brent Andrews and he's been a dud

Haha.. Really? Small world indeed. It killed me that he didn't stay longer here but what can you do. I'm not going to hold a grudge against a kid that young.
We have a quite respectable youth league over here, but there's no interest which makes the games boring to attend. And the best prospects make the SEL a lot earlier since there's no draft system.

And while we're on the subject.. The absolute biggest talent from Sweden in a long time is d-man Adam Larsson. Scouts see him as the front runner for 1st overall pick in 2011 at this point. Never seen anyone quite like him at that age in Sweden. He is more impressive than Hedman at that age. Already a regular first pairing guy in the SEL and outplaying team-mates and 2009 first rounders Tim Erixon and David Rundblad at 16. Will definitely be at the WJC in a month.

We've had some good crops recently but in the years after I'm told it doesn't look as good for Swedish hockey though..

I never understood the draft and trade system in the CHL.. Can a player only be traded locally? Because it would seem absurd to uproot a 16 year old and move him from Montreal to Vancouver for instance.

WHAT !?

As for the trade system in the CHL:

- You cannot trade a player in his first year of registration, at any circumstance... These players are usually between the ages of 16-18 as is so they're cornerstones of the teams.

- No 16-year-old can transfer via trade or release unless circumstances are too much... This happened with Halifax last year, one of the players lost his mother and he decided to move home for good to raise his brother.

- Inter CHL trades don't exist and even player releases VERY rarely happen because a player cannot play for 2 registered CHL team in different leagues in the same season... I can't even think of the last one to happen but it has before.

- The WHL and QMJHL have never had any sort of connection other than Memorial Cup play.

It's not hyperbole. This kid looks like he has everything.. The shot, the hands, the size, the speed (Not Gaborik speed, but very good for his age), the smarts and plays a tough game. Would be very surprised if he didn't amount to something very special. It's already early in the season and he has already passed Hedman's point totals from the season when he was at Larsson's age. And Adam looks like a seasoned veteran on the ice.

Cheers for that Anderson! Very interesting. It's been bugging me for some time. So the teams from the different CHL leagues don't play each other except for the teams that reach the Memorial Cup? They don't play each other before that?
