If I made 3 changes just now and confirmed them, giving me -8 points. Will those go away if I use my WC now? I'm guessing no

Yeah, they will. The points are only deducted at the end of the week so using the WC at any point in the week will prevent them being lost.

You can still make changes until the next deadline. This means that your wildcard can still be used to make up the points. However, using it this early is very risky. I think there's 2 wildcards and one expires before the end of the year or something.
Yes, there are two wildcards, one for each half of the season. Still, though, I'd wait until there's an international break in order to use the wildcard if injuries occur to certain players.

We have a few people at work who still haven't joined the office league, if they join today will they be counted from this week, or only from next week? Hmm, thinking about it, since it's too late to make any transfers, I guess, unless they have already have a team, it would be too late for them?

Next week I think. I made a private league for a few friends, and they could not join during the gameweek. Had to set it on GW2 as the first counting one to get them in.
From experience and seeing a few guides, generally it's considered best to play one of your wildcards only a few weeks in. It's impossible to predict completely accurately who's in form from pre-season, so a mass reshuffle early on is generally a good idea to take advantage of general form rather than try to adapt for a few chance injuries.
This isn't to say saving a two transfers in the lead-up to international breaks isn't also a good idea.
I agree. I have done this every year and have always won my work league. You can tell within the first three weeks who will be regular defenders that cost 4.0 and use those to fill the bench and use the saved money to buy better players.
Yep, already played my WC. My squad is now excluding Chelsea, City, Arsenal, United and Liverpool players.
From what I read some people recommend to do it before/after big teams have a double gameday.
The first international break (around the 4th game?) is the obvious time to use the first wildcard. You'll have a good idea of who you want, there will be no new transfers messing things up, you can take advantage of the longer period of price rises and some teams (like City) have a nice run of fixtures from there. Or, you could wait until the next international break after that.

Yes, the first international break does come after 4-5 matches, so that's normally a very good time to play it. At that point, you can also see who gets injured for a while, and you can make the appropriate changes.

You can only use one at a time though, so you should still have two left. Childish innovation that they are.

Depends. For example Arsenal had a double gameday very late to the season. You shouldn't need to change much as you would probably only want a few players to be definitely in your team. Wildcard isn't a necessity. You only use it if you want to make more than 2 transfers at once without losing points.

Im not sure about points i think i had 2 transfers to use so i didnt lose points, just after i used the WC i thought i would get my transfers back again to use another time but i didnt. Did you get your points back? Maybe a wildcard always erases how manh transfer slots you have left whether you use them or not?

He got 14 last season, in a stop start season for him, being dropped for a few games, and also being moved out wide. I wouldn't rule out him moving before the window shuts either.
