Gerrard has the ability to get freekicks and penalties whenever he wants.
And he's won the thing. Twice.
edit: As Smash says though, Gerrard makes a great referee.
That's all very well, but you'd need Lampard to shoot the freekick at a defender so that it deflects in.
Having them both would be great, unless you plan to play in white like England.
That's a point, can you pick any formation you want?

Yes, I think any formation is possible - dont think I am going to look much further than 4-4-2
I did consider Lampard (who I rate higher than Gerrard) but since I already have Scholes, I will be looking to get a defensive midfielder to complement him.

I was so close to picking Lampard only because this is the third picture you'll get when you Google his name.

Damn, I was sure you were gonna choose Neville. Can't think of many decent right backs in the Premiership.
Irwin's a good choice though.
I came the conclusion there are slightly more decent right-backs then there are left-backs in Prem history. Even with Evra still as an option I'd have chosen Irwin purely because of the length of time he was in the Prem, what he won, etc...
I went for Tony Adams. One of my favourite non-United players, was a great defender back in the day.
I have no idea where to go with mine now, my left side is sorted. I think I'll sort out a striker and a CB next.

I was suprised that Evra was picked ahead of Irwin - for me there is no contest as Irwin got so many assists and goals
